Just got back from seeing it.

I was really disappointed, but everyone I saw it with loved it.

Way too much comedy ... Snoke turned out to be throwaway character ...Rey's parents aren't anybody ... Leia was floating through space ... It was like watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3.

It was really mediocre, and that's coming from someone who thought the force awakens was pretty good.  Definitely a step back.

Close up of alien nipples and milking
Rey tosses out a swear word for no reason
Snoke is meaningless
Rey is a nobody
Akbar is unceremoniously killed off in a sidebar comment that his ship was blown up
Luke, who never gives up on Vader having good side in him, wants to kill Kylo in his sleep just for sensing darkness
Someone gets a parking ticket....seriously??
Not a single F'ing lightsaber duel in a SW movie!?!
Luke calls it a lightsword
PETA pushes the no-meat agenda and anti-horse racing
Anti-war-time profiteering
Child labor is bad!
Forgot a love story, lets slap out Finn and Rose in the last 10min, there that fixed it
Leia pulling a star lord with her space walk
Force projections??? Visions/connections?
Its a 2.5hr chase scene. Literally, the same chase scene that opens is what ends at the end. You have a chase, stand off, escape...revolutionary film making guys. really.
Phasma was promised a bigger role. Apparently that meant her being the required death in a hole person.
Porgs are solely for plush merchandising
Luke just peaces out?
Slap stick comedy trial and error...hello? Can you hear me? I get it, Poe did that in TFA, his character is the new comic relief. But it was cheesy. I'll admit, Luke's dirt off his shoulder was funny.

What else did I miss??

Worst SW movie since EP1 Phantom Menace...maybe is worse. At least that provided Anakin back story. TFA was a good movie. It was a retelling, I get it, but it was entertaining and felt like a SW movie. This felt weird, slow, half @ssed, like 50 deleted scenes mashed together. Now, I enjoyed the movie experience of a new Star Wars movie. But to me it was just filler content, not an episodic story. And for being a main story movie, it failed MISERABLY.

A minute into the movie the writers tried to force a joke about Poe "waiting on hold"  - and then followed it up with a mother joke. All in the first couple of minutes and yet no one in our theater was really laughing. At that point I knew they were trying, way way too hard to force a lot of one liners and unnecessary comedy into this movie. The space alien milking thing was a good example - completely unnecessary.

Leia dying and getting sucked out into space...and then magically coming back to life and flying herself back to the spaceship - I was completely out after that.

I thought it could have been 30-45 minutes shorter. At least.

I loved TFA but was really disappointed in this. There were a few great scenes that sucked me back in but hopefully IX will be better with JJ Abrams directing. Unfortunately I am really not hopeful.

In reading all of the 5 star reviews I really started to wonder if I saw the same movie as everyone else.

This is what happens when you get people making movies that do not care about the original films and are just trying to go for shock and awe. Keep it simple and to the guidelines. I mean really at one point, if I did see Starlord I would not have been surprised. These d bags are trying to make the episodes into Marvel movies.

Like others have said: What the F@#$ is with Leia pulling a Neo/Starlord in space? At least put some kind of jet pack on her or something, they completely made her useless in this movie.

I had such high hopes for this movie but it was absolutely terrible... Snoke was a waste of time as was Phasma, and how could Luke not even be involved in a lightsaber battle??? Shocking

And now I have to find a Porg doll for my GF...

I was truly torn between thinking it was amazing, and thinking it was complete dog$%^&. The force back to the ship by Leia was absolutely awful, leaving Poe out of the loop when they knew he would do something desperate was stupid (almost all of them were dead already, open communication should have been okay by that point), and Snoke went out like a punk. Who was he? How did the First Order (Empire) regain power completely? Maybe they need an episode 6.5, because they apparently aren't going to answer anything at this point.

I enjoyed it, liked the ending especially the luke part. And it was good that reys patents were no one, I think that was the point that anybody can be strong with the Force. That's why I liked the stable boy ending, also snoke just being a really bad sith was good. So many star wars nuts get hung up on who's who, just enjoy the story.

Star Wars has almost gotten to big for its own good.  Every character needs to have a biography given from their birth.  We need to know everything about everyone, they can't just be characters in a story.

I'm a star trek fan so forgive my ignorance. But wasn't the series supposed to be over after Return of the Jedi? It seemed weird to start it up again 20 years later. The story lines in all the new movies jump all over and seem flimsy.

My kids both loved it.  I'm not in love, but didn't hate it either.  I like the overall theme, but some of the execution was iffy.  The Leia floating through space thing bugs me, but then again, there's fire and sound in space in the Star Wars universe so, ok.  I also hated how the back stories for Snoke and Rey were basically throw aways.  I'm kind of hoping they do a movie to explain the whole First Order thing.

My kids biggest issue was whether the porg was sad or hungry when Chewy was trying to eat?

The movie entertained me because I'm a big Star Wars fan, but there were several things that seemed out of place:

- The Leia space scene was weird.
- Killing Phasma seemed early in the character's storyline. Also no real backstory on Snoke either.
- The entire chain of events from a crash at significant speeds with the land speeders to dragging a body all the way back in front of dozens of AT-ATs with Finn and Rose was ridiculous.

Movie was way too long. The casino planet could have been cut by 75%. They barely advanced the story line, which is frustrating.

Saw it yesterday.  Literally fell asleep for a few minutes until wife elbows me.  Sucked out loud.  And Iím a Star Wars fan from birth.  The jokes made me want to punch someone.  The story line was meaningless until the last 30 minutes.  And all that was , was runup to another 3 movies.  Easily worst Star Wars movie made.  I hope they fire this guy and re hire the guy who made the last one.

But thatís just it.  Her parents will end up being someone.  No way sheís got that connection to Kylo ( spelling ) without some blood kinship.  Wait and see

No offense. But if you arenít a Star Wars ď nutĒ ( fan) the. You shoildnt   watch and comment.  Itís this line of thinking thatís killing it.  The idea that the movies need to appeal to the masses vs furthering the story line is the issue.  That same idea almost killed the whole thing before Lucas got it going.  Several people turned down making the original because he wouldnít whore it out and change it.  Now seems like itís happening anyway.

and and and if you really think about it....... the title does not really make sense. All the other titles do not need any major thinking behind them... this one is like "so who is supposed to be the last jedi, luke, leah, Rea, the broom kid, no one, the next jedi will not really be jedi..... I mean come on"!!!!

Loved it.

It was a totally new experience from the others and the desperation in it was palpable.

I think people take movies much too seriously these days. I LOVE SW, but am not one of those "OMFG WHAT DID THEY DO TO IT????" people. Luke as a war torn, miserable hermit was great.

Leia's scene where she saved herself showed that she had been practicing in the ways of the Force and she used it exactly when she needed it. Maybe she was trying to force pull the ship, but because of the Zero G, she pulled herself to it instead?

Kylo's character is inherently very flawed and very child like. He does not control his emotions, which is the way of the Dark Side. He also betrays and lies to get his way, so when Rey's lineage is finally really revealed, it won't be a surprise to me.

Klyo killing Snoke was also no surprise. This is the way of the Force. Every Master must die. On the Dark side, it is by the hand of his apprentice. Every time. Darth Plagueis. The Emperor. And now Snoke. On the Light Side it is generally by personal sacrifice. Qui Gon. Obi Wan. Yoda. And now Luke. All makes sense.

One is only a true Jedi when they build their own Lightsaber. Rey will use the crystal from Luke's old, broken Lightsaber to craft her own. Btw, Luke using the term "Laser Sword" goes back to Episode 1, where Anakin calls it that. Remember, most of the Galaxy thinks Jedis are a myth, so "Laser Sword" is in perfect context here. Rey was not a trained Jedi and grew up "nowhere".

If you follow the mythos, this movie had everything in it that needed to be in it.

The remaining question is what is going to happen to Leia in IX as Carrie Fisher is dead IRL.

Another thing, too. "Jedi" is plural as well. As in Rey and Kylo. Not Luke.

The bones of the episode you just described. Yes. But donít you think that several incidents such as master  Yoda showing up for a second and acting like a drunk teenager giggling and spouting jokes was a bit off putting?  Itís the minute details that kill it. Not the main storyline.  We could hit it as a bridge episode to get to the best one. But the style overall was just lacking compared to any others.

This argument to me is a curious one too.  Iíve had it with several. And so far it seems to be a line drawn by age.  The millennial set seem to think ď it was a great movie ď.  And maybe it was on its own.  But if you watch them from start to finish , of all  episodes this one would stick out easily as different and lacking in taste and trueness to the original style.  No?

I guess you would probably consider me a millennial, and I didn't think the movie was greatn I didn't think it was bad either though. The Leia scene at first caught me off guard and I didn't like it but the more time I have had since I watched it, the more it doesn't bother me. We know she has  capabilities with the force from episode 6 I think.

I thought the movie was too long however.  a lot of stuff that didn't seem like it needed to be in there.

Honestly, The Last Jedi was such a departure from the usual SW fare, I found it refreshing and "new". Sure the Yoda scene was quirky and possibly even irrelevant, but that's why I prefaced what I said about people expecting too much from movies these days.

Of course it had flaws, but I'm not one to obsess about them and pick a movie apart. I thought it was a great addition to the canon, and was an exciting addition to the trilogy so far.

Now the Wonder Woman movie...oy...don't get me started...

I'm a star trek fan so forgive my ignorance. But wasn't the series supposed to be over after Return of the Jedi? It seemed weird to start it up again 20 years later. The story lines in all the new movies jump all over and seem flimsy.

Trek guy here as well.  Reading this thread has me concerned that the next Trek installment straying too far from canon, with Tarentino doing the directing.  :dntknw:

Still plan on seeing the latest Star Wars, since I've seen all the others.  (Hated the prequels, BTW.)  Just won't be paying theater prices to do it.

About Star Wars ending after RotJ, it did not. There were plenty of books and comic books/graphic novels published that took place after the movie trilogies and in between then as well. Some were absolutely amazing.

One arc in particular where Luke and his wife, who he met when she was trying to collect a bounty on his head, then fell in love, have a daughter. Han and Leia have twins, a boy and girl, and the boy falls to the Dark Side, and kills his sister. Then Luke's daughter hunts her down and kills her. Sound familiar?

That being said, when Disney took over Lucasfilms, they announced that all of that material was no longer canon, which basically gave them a clean slate to start all over again. This was all endorsed by Lucas, so all the SW Uberfans just accepted it and moved on.

This one seemed like a good enough reason to stop going to see Star Wars movies in theaters. I saw it today and the only good thing I can remember from it a couple of hours later was Kylo Ren turning from a whiny kid who tries to be cool by playing a baddie into an actual bad guy.

Did anyone else think that the scene where that admiral gave a speaking to to the reckless pilot had Kelly McGillis, Tom Cruise and Top Gun written all over it?

I know the Star Wars movies are meant for kids and teenagers but even so this was bad, even the Phantom Menace looks good next to this one.
