So far in a short golfing time, filled with true fansticism, I've had 3 awful turns on the course.
1. Nearly got into a fistfight. Pair behind us hit into my partner and I for second hole in a row, barely missed partner, he kicks the ball, they drive up, and just barely don't get into it. Good too bc one of them was enormous. Woulda been ugly.
2. Struck in temple w golf ball, shanked off a driver not 10 feet from me. Went sideways into my skull and bounced off. CT negative, some fluid in ear, reabsorbed in a week. V lucky, one inch anywhere else and I lose an eye, scatter my teeth, deaf in one ear, etc.
3. Residential type course surrounded by houses. Pull up to 4th green and pit bull squeezes through hole in fence, chases me around cart, fall on cart path and skin knees and knuckles, still scarred, feels like I fell in a zombie movie, start swinging putter wild and barely run the dog off before partners react to help.
So I guess all that's left is to be struck by lightning? Wtf?
Who else been randomly injured or nearly so? And how to avoid it?

It seems the best way to avoid it would be to not play with you! :scare2:

Seriously, though, that sounds like some bad luck, and I hope things get better for you.

Both a freak accident and bad luck in one round.

Waiting with wedge in hand about 100 yards out with a friend when suddenly one of the guys ahead of us goes running off the green.   My friend standing very near me asked, "bee sting?"   I said "crapped his pants."    He goes, "I got 5 bucks it's a bee sting."  We go walking past a shelter located between the green and next tee and there is this guy putting his shorts back on and tossing his underwear in the garbage can.  Luckily he carried an extra towel.  Made 5 bucks on the front, but missed a 5-footer on 18 to lose it.

I've been golfing for a while and the only thing I've encountered is a round canceled at the turn due to flash flooding and lightning.

Made my first and only, hole in one..while playing with my cousin. When I pulled the ball out of the hole...we..tried to chest bump..cousins foot landed on mine and he severely twisted his ankle. Wore brace the rest of the summer.

Guys over 50..shouldn't try to chest bump...lol.

Just a tip of the hat to our "always prepared" forum friends that carry multiple towels.

I pulled an approach shot left of the green into some trees. I went searching for my ball. The area was covered in 6" deep decaying leaves. I lost my footing and fell down, impaling my leg on something. It was a gusher. Luckily I was at the 8th green and close to the club house. I high tailed it to the club house and kept pressure on it until the gushing stop. I made it to an emergency and got stitched up. Went back later to get my 9 hole rain check.

Same story at my club. It was a Sunday and guys were cutting down trees. Poor guy went to look OB for his ball and one of the trees they were cutting down fell on him. Very sad story

Broke my tibia/fibula slipping on acorns during my swing last March.  Four months, two plates and twenty screws later I was back on the course.  If those darn squirrels would do their f$%^$n' jobs, this never would have happened.

I was hit by a bad sliced drive from the opposite tee box while walking on my fairway, no "fore" shout, everything went black, hat to sit down for a bit, recovered and continued to play...

Playing with a girl who recently had taken up the game, I was walking to my ball on the right as she prepared to hit. I’m going away from her at slightly more than a 45 degree angle. Well, that wasn’t enough and I caught her toe shot straight in the back.

I’ve had two balls off driver land one foot behind me. The first was blind and I was on a different hole so I wasn’t mad they didn’t shout fore, just mad that they were that bad at golf and not teeing forward where they’d have seen me.

The other was on the very first hole. Middle of the fairway and they blatantly hit into me. Landed a foot behind me and rolled past. First instinct was to hit it back to them. Instead they got a plugged lie and no sympathy from our group for the rest of the round

The second time is so annoying. Local muni I grew up playing has a straightaway 350 flat first hole. It's usually pretty slow and the starter always tells people to hit before the group ahead is on the green because, let's be honest, the group ahead is on their 3rd shot and still in the fairway but they've moved it up a ways. The starter pretty much tells people to tee off when the group ahead is about 260-280 out, knowing most guys aren't gonna make it that far. One time he told me to hit and I said I'd rather wait, he said "just hit the ball kid you won't hit them", so I hit and it rolled right in between the guys in the fairway, who turned around and yelled something at me. Can't win sometimes.

Playing in a high school golf match and the weather turned bad quickly.....we're putting on the green that is the absolute furthest from the club house and lightening strike a tree about 20 feet behind the green.  I had braces at the time and there was so much electricity in the air that I could actually taste the charge....

Playing in a tournament and an errant drive flew into our cart and ricocheted off the console hitting my playing partner in the nose/eye.  He quit on the next hole.

Unfortunately we don’t have a starter to blame it on here, just dumb players, like you said, can’t win

Saw a guy almost lose an ear at a scramble tournament.  One guy took a back-swing with a 8 or 9 iron and hit the guy standing next to him.  The ear was severed pretty bad but didn't come off completely.  Blood all over the place.  He kept yelling, is it still there?   Is it still there?   The EMTs showed up and they took him away.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EAR??

So it landed and then rolled out between the guys @ 280yds? Were you hitting a 5i?

soft P, wanted to start out smooth didn't want to scare anyone

Don't know.  The ear was just hanging there when I looked over.  The EMT just covered it with a wad of gauze.  I am assuming they stitched it back on.  It was a benefit tournament near DC.  I only knew the guys in my group.

Oh man, fond (not so much) memories

- fist fight when I was 16 or 17
- fire ants ... twice, once in Port St Lucie and once in Exuma
- charged by a mother swan .. sweet Jesus it was close
- I've been hit twice on the fly, once in the left thigh about 3" from near death and once in the ribs
- had my buddy shoot off a cart path onto a recently watered flat fairway and his cart spun 720 ... but didn't flip
- same buddy at RTJ trail parked on slope near creek and his cart starting sliding sideways to creek before we had a last minute save
- had my buddy ram my pull cart while he was texting in a power cart, tore my left thumb to shreds 20 yards from 1st tee.   We started on 10. lots of Irish whisky and then birdies on the next two holes and a 35 front side.  Thumb double the size next day
- twice I've seen guys 45* off line of play have line drives going 150mph go within 1 foot of their heads ...
- sadly, I've seen a gent pass away on the range ... 30 years ago and remember it vividly

I played the Cdn Mid Am in Sask once and there is a monster par 4 there with an elevated tee deck.  It's on railway ties, 5' or 6' up.   No ropes or bushes around it.  A member stumbled off the box in a big event a few years prior and the poor fella broke both legs  The course put a cheeky plaque in ... that must have hurt like a son of a gun

Back when I was 11 years old, my Dad and Uncle took my brother, sister, and I to a local driving range to try and get us into the game.

I was in a stall furthest to the right, my younger sister was behind me, and behind her was my brother. Well, my sister was around 6 at the time, and my big brother wanted to do big brother things and help her out so he stepped in her box. This was unbeknownst to me, so as I took my back swing I caught him right in the head. Six staples and a mild concussion later, I didn't go back to the range until I was old enough to drive myself. Still have the 8 iron I nailed him with.

Didn't play again until I was 26. Been playing full time for just over a year now. Back in July, a public course I play at moved the tee box up on an already short par 4 and had us teeing off 15 or so yards from two other holes. Absolutely shanked a 5 iron that went directly into the calf of a guy standing at the tee box waiting for his shot. Felt absolutely horrible for the rest of the round. Now if I see people walking down adjacent fairways, I also wait. Never want to hit someone again.

I was in Hilton Head a few years ago saw a group of people around this person on the putting green.   My buddy goes, “hey, it’s Rhea Perlman – what’s she doing here?”   I went up closer only to find it was just a short ugly man with long, curly hair.  He was some kind of local music personality.  Talk about a freak.........my buddy got me good.
