Aside from cosmetics and Ping marketing copy do you see discernable differences in length, dispersion, feel, etc, etc in your experience with both irons.. You know the usual things we look for in model upgrades.

I currently play the G with a modus 105 shaft. Over the past summer I tested the new G400 same shaft, lie etc.  There was no noticible difference via trackman that my fitter or I observed. We then moved on to fitting the G400 SFT driver , which I bought and am very happy with it. I do like the look better tho of the g400 but that’s my preference. I’m looking forward to seeing the G700 irons when PING releases them tho .

G400s feel softer and not as loud as the Gs for me. Love the look and added hydro pearl finish. ;)

Intersting on the sound comments. Iíve been testing these two back to back for a few weeks now.  The g400 Iron to me is a clicky and loud as they come.  Like M2, Steelhead Loud.

I got the G400 due to the fact they look great and hit even better. I played the Bridgestone RX330 and found the sound to be easy on the ears with good distance and accurate. Interesting can’t wait for demo days to try out Driver etc.

I went with G400 from G30 irons. I like the look better and the lofts give me a couple more yards with a good strike.... Usually play Bridgestone e6 / e6 soft and not having any issues with sound... .... point and shoot!!

Minor tweak to sound, sound/feel a bit more "muted" I guess? No performance gains, although I don't game either, only demo'ed.

I have a friend who upgraded from G's to G400. He says he hits them a little longer. He also changed from XP 95's to KBS shafts. He buys new irons every year but I can't tell any difference in his game. But if he's happy....so be it. I like my G's and plan to stick with them for the foreseeable future. When I do upgrade, I will probably go with graphite shafts. A senior citizen thing. ;)

I have played the G iron for the past 2 seasons.  I have done 2 range demos with the G400.  This is my take:

-  Looks are subjective, but the G400 look better.  The finish is nicer.
-  The G400 feel a touch "softer".
-  Zero performance gains over the G

I saw nothing that made me want to upgrade to the G400.  I will play my G irons for another year.

I would, however, go with the G400 if I were buying a new set and not just upgrading from the G irons.  The look and feel were enough to sway me for a new set but not enough to upgrade my current set.

Do you have any insight into where the G700 falls,ie GI,SGI.player, etc? Read a lot but one view simply contradicts the other.

I went into a fitting earlier this week and found no difference between the two. In fact, the process showed me that my current 714 Ap1 are as good a fit as either Ping. I couldn't justify the cost for no performance gain and ended up walking out with new Vokeys to go with the Ap1.

The 700's are replacing the GMax which were SGI irons.

I changed from G to G400 and like the G400 better.  The principle thing I like better is the shaft.  I play graphite shafts and the new shaft (alta CB) is better for me than their previous shaft.  I also changed to power spec lofts and that coupled with the new shaft is a better set up for me.  I also prefer the looks of the G400.  However, I have nothing bad to say about the G.

I tested both the G and G400 irons. Both very similar, but went for G400’s because I think the off-set looks better, bit cleaner, simpler.
I got fitted with stiff KBS Tour shafts to lower my flight a bit. Really pleased with them.

Anyone used the G400 irons over the last few months? What's your long term review of them in terms of performance, finish etc?

Thanks.

Well, our season has been done for a couple of months but I played mine enough times to know they are just what you would expect out of a G series iron. They are a clean looking iron with outstanding performance. I kind of have to chuckle when I hear people say that the I200's are more "accurate". I hit more shots close to the pin with these irons than ever before. There is not a great amount of difference between the 400's and the G's. I think they might feel a tad better than the G's but that might be in my head so I could justify spending the money when I already had the G's. I like the overall looks of the 400's better. The finish seems to be very durable.

Many thanks for the response, good to get some user insight. Going to test them again in a few weeks.
