Wedges for sure.

I usually hit 55-60% of fairways, and even when I miss, it's not in trouble. So getting AROUND the green is pretty easy for me. But my biggest issue is getting up & down. If I miss a GIR, it's almost a guaranteed bogey for me. So I either need to get better with my wedge game (and put my chips and short pitches within 3 feet), or get better on my putting (and have more 5-10 foot one putts).

I don't think it's realistic for an amateur to constantly drain 5-10 footers...so I'm gonna say getting wedges close enough to make one putts is definitely the most important.

Level of importance for me:

1. Wedges (Least consistent)
2. Putter (Usually consistent, but absolutely required for good scoring)
3. Long Irons
4. Driver
5. Mid Irons
6. Hybrid
7. Fairway Wood
8. Short Irons (Most consistent)

its driver 1000%......BUT on days where i hit it really well then my putter is what keeps me from going low ....  if driver is not on though its going to be a looong day...   irons and wedges i hit close in my sleep... always have...  shortgame is easy.... but putter is streaky...

Driver. When I miss the driver, Iím 30-50 yards from my target and itís tough to score and recover from that sometimes. Amplified by some tougher courses too.

When I miss a wedge or putt, Iím a few feet to 20 yards from target. Not a big deal. Maybe a dropped stroke, but not two or more possibly like with a missed tee shot.

Driver.... if I'm too far off the fairway or in the trees my score in the 80's. If I can hit the fairway or not too far off, I'm in the 70's.

Without a doubt, the wedges for me- I don't hit enough GIR so I'm often depending on the wedges to get up and down

My chipping and pitching make or break my rounds.  I've been known to go through the yips on occasion inside 60 yards.  I had a span of about 2 months last summer where I was losing 6-8 strokes around the greens.

Surprised how few say Putter.  For me the putter is the difference between shooting 75 and 85.

Its hard not to say putter... as said earlier a 3 jack is a 3 jack, no way to make that up, but for me, if I am hitting my irons well and reaching GIR, I can throw a good score together.  GIR is by far the most important part to me.

That said, realistically all clubs can cost us a good round so it's really hard to narrow it down, that's what is so great about this game.  You typically have to do everything well to score, you can't lose focus and half a** any of it or it will cost you.

That’s me. Last round 14 greens but 32 putts.   4 out of 16 out of what I consider “makeable”. A good round that could have been really, really good.

Driver, whatever club I use to chip (or bump and run) with, and then putter.  I don't hit many GIRs, so it's all about finding the fairway, getting near the green and then up and down.   Geezer Golf!

Lowest scores have come from fixing wedges and hitting it closer.

After that driver would be my next vote. If Iím hitting it in trouble Iím not gonna score where I want.

Seems like a lot of people have really high standards for their putting...

Unless you're 3 jacking every other green, it probably isn't as bad as you think.

Median Make % on Tour by Distance:
3-5 feet- 88%
5-10 feet- 56%
10-15 feet- 30%
15-20 feet- 20%
20-25 feet- 12%

Stats are rounded by me, but they are from 2018, so maybe a small sample size.

https://www.pgatour....s.RPUT_INQ.html

Surprisingly, median 3-putts per hundred holes is 3.57. This may be skewed by the weaker putters, but I didn't have time to aggregate the data.

Hands down driver. Two years ago I was a 4 hitting nice baby draws with the driver. Broke the hook of the hamate bone but didnít know and kept playing and got into some bad habits. Bad grip, overswinging to try and find power etc. Had surgery and came back and couldnít hit the driver past 210 and everything was a fade/slice. Handicap ballooned to 13 in two years because having 3 or 4 irons into par fours makes it really hard to score. Finally getting the driver back but it almost made me give up the game.
