I always laugh when I see one of these threads where someone thinks they've had a "Eureka!" moment. I wonder what the OPs next great thread will be, "Guys, after years of not touching it I put my hand in some water........and guess what, it was wet."

even tho this is wrx and we are all expected to use whats on tour-I still use only a 2 piece ball because I need distance over greenside spin. I have learned to gear my wedge game to the hard balls and even found that distance is actually more predicatable using them. also they putt better and roll truer.

Both kinds of ball will roll true.

How could one (non-defective) golf ball roll more true than another?  I interpret that statement to mean that certain golf balls don't hold their line, or they bounce when the should be rolling.

As any married man will tell you, there are varying levels of truth.

Like I roll with some pretty fun dudes at the pub on the weekends. If there's anyone there that my wife knows well, I definitely roll truer.

It's golf, lol. If he believes the ball rolls more true then for him it does. Anything
to get a mental edge. We all have our quirks in the crazy game.

I understand the position that a 2-piece ball (non-urethane) doesn't perform as well close to the green - doesn't "spin" as much. For me, being a mid-handicapper, I have found that a 2-piece doesn't hurt my game because if I take a full swing on my approach the ball does go higher, dropping onto the green (hopefully) with a steeper angle. Back when I was a high-handicapper a 2-piece would (and did) kill me because I'd hit a low runner and end up blasting off the back of the green. I hope that makes sense. I rarely struggle with a half-swing, chip, or pitch releasing too much, no matter the ball, these days. I get that low-handicappers are targeting that low, short shot that stops - and a urethane three or four piece ball will certainly do that.

Midcap here. Inconsistencies abound, but some balls just have different flight characteristics, at least for me.
Played 2 off the tee the other day, slow people in front and me single. My tee game is respectable. Not long or short, but pretty straight.
Hit a tp5, caught it low, rolled out to 240. Was sure it would've died around 220.
Second ball a gamer tour. Flushed it. Was sure it was going 250.
Both balls straight. Conditions were average for wind, temp (Louisiana), firmness, etc.
Drove up to balls, both exactly 240. Tp5 actually about 2 yards ahead.
Poorer shot rolled out v well. Flushed shot a little short.
I think the ball maker bs about layers and dimples has some truth. I think the expensive tour balls are more optimized or have tighter tolerances, esp than the cheap tour balls.
2 piece balls less variance. Designed to help height.
Anyway, my 2 cts.
Also played several holes that day w some E5's I'm trying to lose. They were notably shorter even brand new than the others scuffed to hell. Wacky 2 piece urethane, I see why there aren't more bc it's the worst of both worlds.
