Please compare. I love the 2017 ones and just purchased some loose dozens of what I thought were the 2017s but actually are the 2015s. Trying to decide if I should try and return or keep them.

The 2015 feels slightly firmer off the putter. Any differences? I absolutely love the 2017 around the greens. Are the 2015s as good? Any opinions are appreciated!

Both balls are the non-XV.

They Z-star XV 2017 feels softer off of every club to me.  It is a very slight difference, but performs exactly the same imo.  Exactly the same.  If you got a good price, I would keep them.

Full disclosure... Z Star XV is my favorite ball for four years running.

I was referring to the non-XV model. Are you saying the 2017 XV is softer than 2015 non-XV?

I have been a z-star guy for a while- I have boxes of 2013, 2015 and 2017. I've actually interacted with Srixon asking specific questions about the differences.
What they said matches my experience- the 2017 is a little longer for me (probably the dimple pattern and flight) and the compression is a tad lower and the ball feels more uniform off of every club. I feel the ball spins a tad less of the driver than 2015. It's not a huge difference though. Both are really durable and very consistent. I prefer the 2017 ball to the prior generations

Got to try them vs 2017s on course today. Here are my findings...

Driving:
2015 = 10/10
2017= 9/10

Irons:
2015 = 8/10
2017 = 8.5/10

Short Game:
2015 = 9.5/10
2017 = 9.5/10

Feel:
2015 = 7/10
2017 = 8.5/10

Total:

2015 = 34.5 / 40   ($18/dz)
2017 = 35.5 / 40   ($40/dz)

I will obviously be keeping these and I am thrilled with the performance - especially for the incredible deal I got.

Long time Pro v1 regular user and just gave the XV a shot today.

Driver- Launched similarly to pro v1 with a touch less spin. Im a 115-120 mph swinger and always found the pro v1 much easier to control the spin than the v1x.
Long irons- launched how I expected but with a tad less movement than with the pro v1. Also had a bit of a firmer feel.
Short irons- launched much higher than I have been hitting them but its something I could get used to.
Weges- felt firmer but at the same I was noticing more stopping power than the pro v1. But maybe I was just playing closer attention. The firm feel also felt very crisp and not clicky much like the TPx IMO
Putter- felt very good and just as soft as any x ball on the market. The cover is the same as the regular z star so if you arent compressing the ball they should feel the same.

Overall the ball felt more consistent than the pro v1 and thats what Matsuyama always harps on. Today I played average but the ball helped me have no bogeys and 2 birdies through 13 holes on a 55 degree day in Florida.

Edit: The durability is something that cant be understated. Pro V1s get scratched up way too easy and thats what turned me off if the TPx as well. Through 13 holes today there were a couple scratches but the ball was bright white and good for another round.

I really liked the 2015 Z-Star, and when they made the change I couldn't really see any major differences between the two versions.  And by coincidence, I bought two dozen Z-Stars yesterday with course book money, only to discover when I got home that one dozen was 2017 and the other was 2015.  My initial reaction was that it didn't matter, because I like both versions.  It's too far to drive back there (25 miles or so) for the minor differences between the balls.  I've still got some 2015 Z-Stars around that I bought at close out prices.

I find that they play very similar. The 2017 seems a little bit softer.

From my experience there is very little difference between the two regular z stars so you will be good. The 2017 XV however is a much improved ball over the 2015. 2017 is not as clicky as 2015, goes further off driver and spins more on approaches and around the green. It is the best 'X' ball out there imo. I play the chrome soft X as I still have a dozen or so to go through, bit I have been stock piling the 2017 XV with shop credit at my course and it will be my gamer when the Chrome soft X are gone.

Just bought 2 dozen Z Stars off a member here, not realizing they are the previous generation.  Glad to see this thread shed some light.  I love the 2017 Z Star, and the XV, but the XV is a bit too firm for me.  Great performance though.  Looking forward to trying out the older Z Star tomorrow.  Been playing Pro Vs for a while but lately the Srixons have been great, no complaints here.

Played the 2015 yesterday and loved it!!!  I think I actually prefer the slightly firmer feeling.  It's not XV firm but a little more so than the 2017 ZS.  Ball is very durable, seems to like to go straight and carries very well.  I'm a big fan of this one.... Does everything well and feels great off the putter.
