Easier to count the days I don't suck.  It was 3 rounds ago that was spectacular sucking.  Took an 11 on the first hole, short PAR 4.  I started keeping count of lost balls, 6.  I was a cool 60 at the turn.

I have not had a beer while golfing in 25 years.  I now have a formula where after 9 holes if I am 24 or more over, I'm drinking.  At the turn I caught the cart girl and bought 2 - 16oz beers.  They were gone by the time I teed off on 11 and I'm a light weight.

Played much better on the back and my partner said I was a lot more fun.

I focus on the good shots I've made in bad rounds. There will be some, even if it's a good punch out from under the trees, a  chip that lets you one putt or something positive.

For example, I was recently playing a tournament and took a 10 on a short par 4 (#3) due to a bladed sw over the green into trouble. Rather than focus on that, I thoughht about the tough par 5 I had just pared that I made an 11 on last year (same tourney). I parred the next two. On 9,island green par 3, i took a 9 with two in the drink (due more to 30 mph face wind than bad shots).

I tried to focus on those good holes, shots rather than dwell on the negatives. I eventually finished 5th. Not great, but I could have finished last had I focused on those two round killing holes.

Hahaha, yea, yesterday-

I was 3/10 from 10’ on my putting mat against my Oncologist when I normally am 7/10 even half blind and gripping basically one handed, I missed the toilet from 18-24” and I turned around in the elevator to exit and got disoriented and cracked my orbital(eye) against the elevator door.

I sucked...

Those days will happen-

Get some sleep, get up & do it again~

It’ll get better

A certain pre-cursor to having a round that sucks is hitting the ball great during the warm up on the range.

That is the kiss of death.
There's a cure for that though. I never hit balls before a round...just for that reason

I don't think this is too uncommon, because great results on the practice range create high expectations on the first tee, causing subtle swing changes to happen. One of the hardest things about golfing is the psychology involved and being able to incorporate you're driving range swing and confidence during the stress of competition.

I always go back through my round and see how I was on what I consider realistic "make-able" putts.

Today eas one of those "no-feel" days. 0-12 on those type putts. Including a couple from inside three feet.

Played both mornings last weekend. Saturday was 40-ish and Sunday started in the high 20's.
Greens were rock hard and nothing rolled true. Ice crystals underfoot.
Sunday I had on four layers and just couldn't get it going.
My arms wouldn't unfold.
Got a few pars but the doubles ate me up. Couldn't chip for a cash prize.
Glad next weekend will actually be warmer. Might hit 50.
Bunch of nuts with golf clubs and coffee.
Cheers.

Two things... 1- Usually the off days that are beyond terrible are attributable to injury or sickness, whether overt or subclinical. Have a short memory.
2- On the days when absolutely nothing works, I play a one-club game, usually my 3 hybrid. Or if I vary, I lean on that club 90pct. Totally simplifies the game and makes it easier. Less variance.
I can tee off w it, hit a choked down shot for practice, wail at it, chip, putt, basically anything but an actual pitch or flop, but that's not impossible either.
Takes the pressure off, gets creative, and next round when u pick up that club, you own it.

Have been playing nicely the last month or so and we had a beautiful day yesterday for probably the last round of the year.  Felt great, good conditions, should be a nice round.  Let's just say I found a way to bogey almost every hole on the front after making 3 birdies on the front last week in lesser conditions.

Are you kidding me? I gave myself the nickname...Mr. 50-50. I am a 2 handicap who can play amazing golf just about every other round.

Earlier this year I shot a lifetime low round of 63 (-8) and then followed that round with an 85. For you folks that are math deficient that is a 22 stroke swing!

Generally for me itís a tempo thing. When tempo is good I go low, when itís off...itís a crapshoot.

Yep, get those days where I can't get comfortable over the ball. It's hard
to explain but it happens to a lot of us. It's just friggin' weird.

I just had an idea. Maybe next time I play do a "comfort check" and address
a ball before I leave the house. Probably won't stop me from playing but at
least I'll know I'm gonna be out of my comfort zone all day.
