I played quite a bit this weekend, and noticed a couple things which irritated me.

1.  If you are good enough to put craters into the green, you've been playing long enough to know you are supposed to fix them!  It's not like they were hard to see.

2.  Why does there seem to be a compulsion to spit sunflower seeds out on the green.  There were some within inches of the hole!

In both cases, why can't people have the same consideration for the players that come after them that they would want from the players that came before?

Rant over, I feel better now!

Things that bug me...

People who are late or show up at the last minute to the 1st tee box
People who drive their cart off the cart path when near the green and tee box creating hard pan, and then b**** about the course condition.
People who take 4 practice swings during their preshot routine, and TAKE BIG DIVOTS.
Then they take 4 more swings when they address the ball AND TAKE BUG DIVOTS.

People who incessantly talk while on the tee box or any other time when players are ready to hit their ball.
People who look for their ball hit OB or way off line for the full 5 minutes, and expect me to help them look for that long.
People who play down an adjacent fairway on purpose when said fairway is occupied
People who wait for the green to clear so they can hit driver off the deck from 280 out when they cant hit a driver off the tee even close that far

I played with this guy yesterday, never again. Never. The most miserable round Ive ever played.

Well, they spit out the shells!  I have to assume they eat the actual seeds!  Better than tobacco, I guess, but why on the green?

But it bugs me also.

Sunflower seeds are annoying as hell especially near the hole, but the worst is when you go to pull out your ball and someone asshat decided that the cup was a good ashtray and there are a bunch of cigarette butts in there.

That is true.  But the ones I've seen over the past few days were pretty hard to miss.  I was fixing several on every hole, and could have fixed more, if I wanted to slow things down even more.  Some are subtle, and I can understand missing them, these were craters, with the lifted back.  If you hit the shot, they were the sort you knew had to be there.

There were also a couple bunkers that looked like there had been square dancing in cowboy boots earlier in the day.  The bunkers on this course vary a lot, from pretty decent sand to basic hardpan, often in the same bunker.  Sometimes you can't really rake if you want to.  But at least make an attempt when it's really deep.  I will say that the worst for that was Thanksgiving morning, when there was a 7:30 shotgun, and I think a lot of once-a-year type players.  I love the course, it's great for the cost, so I am not really complaining.

I see sunflower seeds littering the greens. It's not prevalent, but it's around.

Cheating

Not raking bunkers

Guys who carry multiple towels

Those in riding carts who park behind the "forward progress" line of their ball in the fairway and then walk toward the tee when returning to their cart after hitting.  (usually the same guy in riding cart waiting for a par-5 green to clear from 310 out when he drove it 240 from the tee).

I carry multiple towels sometimes. One for my hands, one for my clubs or to lay on the ground to keep my grips dry.

When Already Addressing a putt from off the green, some says; "Do you want the pin out?"

When someone putts/chips up near the hole, leaves it there, since it's not really in the way, then waits until
you are Addressing your putt, to say; "Does my ball bother you?"      This is why some guys will tell you to putt it or mark it,
which you should do automatically or pick it up.

Some of these are hilarious. Seriously though, the only one that really bugs me is the waiting for the green to clear on a par 5. If you can get past the halfway point from the tee box then OK, but 9/10 times the person didn't even make it halfway with a perfect lie, teed up with the driver. Hello slow golf!!!

Played with a twosome sharing clubs.  They got mad at me for playing ready golf while waiting for the club shuffle.

Also, the tee sheets at a few local courses bug me.  Too crowded out there.  Played a 3 hour front 9 and left.

The cigarette and cigar thrown down,as if everyone wants to play with it there.
People who cannot walk without dragging their feet.
Ballmarks on the green...it is a shame to have some of the nicest greens for a 50 mile area, and some local people cannot repair the ball marks.
And the really sad thing is that a lot of the times ,the culprit is a member.
Really slow...and silly fast......there has to be some give on both sides. I hate slow golf..but the guy behind me...he only sees me...not the three/four groups ahead....seems like his eyesight is limited to 260 yards.

First off I have seen Phil go above and beyond for kids, fans, handicapped and veterans.  He goes out of his way to say hello, shake hands, say "thank you" to veterans at every event while signing autographs for hours.  I would love to find out what you guys dislike about Phil.

So much like all of these complaints its all what we allow to bother us.  If you don't allow this to bug you can have a much better time you know. I am just as at fault so please don't let this rant make you say "fk you Ben" but I understand if it does.  I am mostly writing this for myself and the changes I am making for 2018.

Just like all of you I let slow play, trash on the course (seriously, trash cans at every hole??). ball marks, divots and jamokes on the course bug the hell out of me.  But many of the mentioned complaints are just plan ridiculous. The others are all things we cannot change so why are we allowing this to bother us??

This is golf gentlemen.  People suck and we have probably been at fault for all of these ourselves.  Good public courses get lots of play.  People don't mark their ball when its not in the way.  Yes some people (like me) carry a few towels to stay dry and keep things clean.  (I walk and play in mornings, what?).  And yes some people are fkn slow while wearing jeans and spitting their seeds all over the fkn greens because they are morons....

But its time to shut up and play fellas.  If you are really annoyed then make more $$ and join a private club.  Not one mear by?  Move!  They have limited members, great conditions and most play faster than public.  Otherwise we need to start being grateful we are able to golf and just shut up.

Just like the road, mall, grocery store and any other place we find other humans we are going to have these hassles.   Suck it up and be fortunate we can even play.

Golf is about fun and free time which billions on this planet cannot even think to enjoy let alone afford it.   Think about how lucky you are you don't have to hunt for food every day and aren't sleeping on a dirt floor wondering how you will eat or worse, feed your kids today.  Life could be SO fkn much harder boys.  We have zero right to complain about this petty BS.

Or just keep biyatching about everything and having no one to play with because you are miserable to be around taking everything so critical while never looking in the mirror...

Be fortunate guys...

Guys who carry multiple towels

Posted Image

I carry multiple towels sometimes. One for my hands, one for my clubs or to lay on the ground to keep my grips dry.

How many "clubs" are you laying on the ground?

"Hand towel" - how do your hands get so moist to need a towel?

And a separate "club towel?"

Dry this, wipe that, rub that, clean this and polish that.  Enough already. Hit your shot.

Multiple towel carriers............the ones that carry "an extra towel" hanging out of the back pocket really bug me.

Alrighty, since it is so important to you I will answer in a civil, and pleasant tone Mr F.

1.  Usually just a wedge or two, sometimes a iron depending on circumstances.  I have a bum leg, I can not walk 18 holes, so I am always coming to and from a cart.  On CPO days this will result in carryying more clubs to my shot than usual.

2.  I do not wear a glove, and I have this obsessive compulsive disorder that makes me give my hands a wipe whether they need it or not.

3.  See #1.  My "hand" towel stays in the cart.

4.  I play plenty fast, and am always ready to hit my shots.  That is the only real pet peeve I have on the golf course, waiting on people who should be preparing while others are hitting but only if it is a actual repetitive issue, which isn't all that often.

5.

The fact that anyone cares even a tiny farking bit how many fking towels I carry is comical.  How do people like this get through a round without shiatting themselves when real issues arise?

Two towels IS a real issue, but at least you can use one to wipe...
