Iíve been playing a Bridgestone J33 3W and 2 hybrid for years and they are phenomenal clubs. I love how solid they feel and the muted thwack sound off the face. Never really thought about trying the driver because I was happy with my 510TP, R7 425TP, and now my current 2016 M1.

After searching the archives and reading many reviews I was intrigued. Several folks said it was like a 460cc 510TP...this hooked me and I began my search. I found one in great condition with a Graphite Design YS-6+ shaft for $30.

It arrived last Thursday but today was the first time I was able to hit it at the range. I was pretty excited, but after the first shot I was hugely disappointed. Sounded nothing like a 510TP...which was a bummer. Hit a few more and put it back in the bag. It is very tinny sounding and felt soft to me. Not as long as my M1 but it was still decent.

Maybe Iíll send it out for some hot melt later on but I donít want to invest too much into it. I guess it was wishful thinking that it would be the bigger brother of the 510TP. They look and setup nearly identical so I really wanted to like this club.

Anyone else used to game or still game this driver?

I am still playing the J33r; 9.5 degree fitted for me in 2008 at Hotstix in Scottsdale. Rombax X Flex shaft (Plays softer per fitter).......I guess in its day, it was known as a legendary spin killer.    Went looking last year for more distance and did a fitting a Club Champion and couldn't find anything better for me at that point.... I'm always skeptical of indoor fittings, but that's what the numbers said.

I played the 420 version until recently and never thought it felt soft.  That may have something to do with the shaft as mine is an 8.5* with an Ozik 8m2.  It is very low spinning and probably as long as anything.  I just picked up an M1 to try, but if that doesnt work I am going back to the J33.

I could be wrong because I'm going from memory here but I believe the J33r had a 2" BBGM so unless you tipped your shafts 1/2" or so then they would play slightly softer than say other clubs with a 1.5" BBGM.  This could have contributed to going w/ the X flex untipped knowing this head would soften it some.

I've been shopping for another myself. IMHO, it was in a class by itself. "Tinny" never entered my mind when I used to play it. Looks like you found a nice one. The ones I've seen on ebay are a bit beat up.

Still gaming a J33R with a matrix xcon. Hits bombs. Nothing like it for me. It has an elastomer inside so tinny wasnít something I used to describe it. When hit right it is more of a solid whack. Very distinct feel and therefore sound.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but just wondering if anyone knows of a driver that sounds and feels like this driver.  Iíve been using it for the past 18 years, and though I really want to upgrade, I just havenít been happy with anything new these days in terms of sound.  I liked the sound of feel of the Bridgestone which to me felt like a metal hammer hitting a metal nail, and these days all the driver seem to have this hollow thwack to it.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Thx!

Stuff any number of clubheads with yarn, batting, or cotton balls and you may find a sound you like.  My King LTD is quite different after being stuffed with cotton balls.

I'm guessing you mean 12 or 13 years of using the J33R?  The 420cc version is from 2005, the 460cc version is 2006.   :)
