Bernhard Langer has dominated the Champions Tour all year. Won the first two playoff events and has seven wins this year including three majors. But just as the PGA Tour does, before the final event there is a points reschuffle. Any of the top-5 can win. Langer is having an off week and Kevin Sutherland can win the whole thing with zero wins on Tour this year. I know the point of the reshuffle is to keep the drama up for the last event, but if Sutherland wins without even winning the Charles Schwab Cup Championship this week in Phoenix or any single event all year, it's pretty unfortunate for Langer. The math would have to work out for Sutherland, but it seems possible at this point. Sutherland is T-2 -10 and Langer is T-22 -3 at the moment.

Someone unworthy taking home the Schwab Cup transcends senior golf. It could literally change society as we know it.

You have to like McCarron"s chances.
It's nice to see Big John scoring well. Too bad that he was so far back coming in to the tournament.

Fake playoffs - this is what you get (and not much different than the fake regular tour playoffs).

No one ever complains when the team with the best regular season record doesn’t win the World Series or the Super Bowl, but it happens in golf and it’s a crisis.

Any comment from Langer about this?

I'm sure it would be a diplomatic response.

Well there's a difference between POY on any given tour and whoever wins one of the various "races" or season long championships.  But if you're upset about this outcome then we should really all be sticking pins in our Vijay Singh voodoo dolls.  He's the reason this scenario unfolded.

If they were to just give the cup to Langer because he's had the best season, then why even play the season ending tournament?  If an NFL team goes 16-0 in the regular season, should they just be handed the Super Bowl trophy?  It's a playoff system put in place to create drama at the end of the season.  It's not a culmination ending in a coronation.  The Fed Ex Cup is pretty much the same thing.

WT....Langer's putting not fair to field? lol... yeah.. he makes a ton of them..legally..obviously he reads the  putts perfectly often..other players can use the same method but they likely won't know what they were doing.

Threads like this kill me.

A guy plays so consistent the entire year, he has an outside chance to win the cup. He plays so well at the season ending event that he wins it. Langer plays bad enough that he loses it. So what, congratulate the winner!
I also do not like the long putter. I think whether or not it is anchored is too ambiguous to determine and it gives an unfair advantage because of it. However, both are allowed within the current rules.

So be it. The good news is that rules can be changed. Maybe they will, maybe they won't. Either way everyone has to deal with it the way it is.

In the end, like everything else, it's about entertainment value ($$$$)

He plays so well at the season-ending event that he wins by a mere 6 strokes. And takes the Cup away from a guy with 7 wins including 3 majors and 2 playoff events. Dumb. All because TV needs an exciting finish.

Langer could have won every event all year except the finale and still had this outcome.

If they're going to reset, the reset should start at the beginning of the playoffs IMO

Langer player of the year
Sutherland Schwab winner

Plenty of Presidents Trophy winners in NHL have not won the Stanley Cup
Patriots lost to Giants in Super Bowl
Wild card has won World Series

Gotta say, I really hate this argument. Team sport playoffs are very different. There's only two teams in the World Series or Super Bowl, and they both did a lot to get there. The bar for getting to the "finals" in the Fedex Cup (and apparently the Charles Schwab Cup) is much lower.

People are misinterpreting the playoff system. In many instances the best team/player doesn't always win. In the media today most call Kevin Sutherland's win "controversial". Anything positive said about his win also includes statements that Langer was "robbed" of the title. Kevin did not have as impressive of a season as Langer, but still had an exceptional one with being in the top-5 in many stats. He is a deserving and well respected champion. A win for him was inevitable, and this win happened to come at the right time. POYs do not always win the season end race, and in the PGA tour only 5 of the last 10 winners have been POY, yet those Cup champions rarely recieved as much backlash as Kevin Sutherland. People need to learn to accept the established system and congratulate Kevin Sutherland as a champion of the game.

People are misinterpreting the playoff system. In many instances the best team/player doesn't always win. In the media today most call Kevin Sutherland's win "controversial". Anything positive said about his win also includes statements that Langer was "robbed" of the title.
