Thanks again, NaBUru38.

This is probably my least favorite tournament on the PGA TOUR schedule, and I think it's the course.  Gorgeous setting, uninteresting course.

The Nedbank Challenge, on the other hand, is one of my favorites from the European Tour and it's because of the course.  I love Gary Player CC.

I like this tourney set in the jungle of central America, panthers and crocs looming waiting for a straying golfer.

Played in the pro-am last year, course was nice but not amazing.  The scenery and wildlife are beautiful.

For the event they have a boat going around the complex playing a loud obnoxious sound to get rid of the crocodiles for the week.

Played the course a few years ago.  If they get a week without wind, there could be several guys go sub-60.

At least there isn’t a mongoose and a cobra fighting on the cart paths.  They might have chased off the crocs but still plenty of snakes in the weeds.  Same round came within 10 ft of a 6’ boa and a water moccasin (their version of that species) scooted across the fairway in front of me.  Also accidentally ran over an iguana on the cart path. Oops.

This is the 11th playing of the OHL Classic.  Here is a look at the previous winners and their ages at the time of their victories.

2016 Pat Perez 40
2015 Graeme McDowell 36
2014 Charley Hoffman 37
2013 Harris English 24
2012 John Huh 22
2011 Johnson Wagner 31
2010 Cameron Beckman 40
2009 Mark Wilson 34
2008 Brian Gay 36
2007 Fred Funk 50

So the average age of the OHL Classic winner has been 35, and six of the 10 winners have been over 35 years of age.  Is it something in the salsa? :)

Probably because the best players in the world seem to be getting younger so the opposite field/silly season events give a better chance for the older hangers-on, whereas in the past it was a little more of the opposite.

Is the Tour worried about the violence that is growing in this area of Mexico or the tournament pretty sealed off from it? Besides these rapes, Ive heard the cartels run all the clubs in town.

True.  Veteran players such as Pampling, Perez, Armour, Steele, McDowell types along with Web grads have been cleaning up in the silly season the past few years and parlaying the fedex points accrued fairly deep into the playoffs.  Cantlay's win seems to be an exception.  Maybe Rickie is able to win this week in Mexico.

I'm surprised Phil who is way overdue for a win doesn't follow Perez's lead and tee it up in a few more of these events.  I have noticed Zach, Hoffman, Vijay, DL3, Bubba, Walker and a few others teeing it up the past few weeks.

I've been to that part of the world a few times and I don't know if I would go back to the Playa del Carmen area.  I don't know if I would trust any alcoholic drink at any resort with illegal booze (and many times dangerous) everywhere.  Good thing I rarely drink alcohol (I have enough fun without it).  It used to be that as long as you minded your own business, you would be fine.  Now I'm not so sure.  One has to remember that Mexico is a country where you are presumed guilty if you are arrested for anything and have to prove you're innocent.

Possibly due to the PGA Tour mandate that a player adds a new event to his schedule that they have not played in the last 4 years. VJ & DL3 are exempt from that mandate.

Patton has now extended his lead to four over Rickie.  Looks like he'll cruise in for the "W." He's a Sea Island resident who is in the field next week.

Was rooting for him until I realized how freaking slow he is.  Nearly two minutes to play his shot on 13 AFTER taking his drop.  Last group or not, more than a hole behind and it’s not Fowler’s doing.
