Question for people who own this device. I am having issues with mine shooting over 100 yards to objects like trees and such. If it's  a semi reflective object it will hit sometimes but not all the time.

I sent it into leupold for repair and it got sent back stating no issues found.

So can this rangefinder not hit trees very well? Or is my defective and I need to call leupold back?

I haven't had that problem with mine.  I set the cross hair to the smallest setting and that helps me be more accurate when aiming at a target.  Leupold customer service is normally top notch.  A friend had a Leupold hunting range finder that was having issues.  He sent it in and they said they were sending him a replacement.  He asked if they would switch it out for a golf version and they sent him a brand new 5i3.

I took it outside again today. It hit great and then it stopped hitting over 100 yards again. I think I may take a video of it and email their customer service since they didnt seem to have issues with it with their tests.

Do you have issues hitting anyting like trees? I shoot those a lot with a range finder when golfing to try to get distances to places.

I mostly shot flags and bunkers and haven't had any issues with mine.  I also asked my dad about his (same model) and his is working great.  It sounds like you probable have a defective one.

I have the same feeling. I am going to take it the course tomorrow and try it out. See what happens. If its not working up to par I will take a video and send it to them.

thanks for your input!

Have you tried changing the battery. They last a liong time in the Leupolds. But it may not be putting out enough power. I don’t use the cheap batteries either as they don’t have enough volts generally and definitely don’t last as long

That is a good idea about trying a new battery.  I know the battery gauge on mine is not accurate and it goes from full power to dead all of a sudden.  It doesn't give me any notice that the battery is getting weak.

If your hands are shaky it's easy to hit all kinds of targets other than what you think you are aiming at.  I get the problem sometimes when it's cold out or I drank too much coffee before playing.  Just keep shooting and be sure to get a confirmation reading before trusting any laser.

BTW, I've got a GX3i or something to this effect.  It's a good unit but wigs out when it's cold outside.

Battery is brand new and one set to me from Leupold from its quick trip to Beaverton.  Fog mode is off.

Issue isnt with shaky hands. Issue is that it wont get a distance on anything. Like if I try to hit a flag im getting 3 lines and not even getting distance to the trees in the back. I

Took it out to the course today. Extremely hit or miss on hitting flags. Would hit one and not others. Would not hit a flag and id hand it to somebody else and they could hit it then I could also hit it.

Still not able to hit trees or the ground hardly at all. Im still leaning towards its a lemon of some sort.

I'm guessing it's your technique.

I have the GX-4i2 (and had the GX-4i before that) and have never had issues with getting distances.

I hold down the button and sweep back and forth horizontally over the flag (or tree).  The unit should throw back the distance of the closest object that the aiming reticle touches.

thats how every range finder I have used works. But this one wont get me distances to even the trees behind the stick.

My GX-5xi bounced out of a cart onto a wooden bridge over a pond today - I thought it was a goner.  But since then it has same symptoms as yours -only ranges to close and bright objects, and slowly at that.  Your description is exactly what I experience.  I'm wondering if its some type of internal alignment issue - returning to Leopold tomorrow,

Sent range finder in again with a note explaining my issues and my findings from testing in store against another leupold. Got a box in today with a new gx-4i3.

Leupold is top notch. Only thing I wish would be that they have some communication about receiving the product and their findings. But none the less its top notch.
