I know you're "supposed" to chose a ball based on green performance but I do better by picking based on driver and learning that balls green stuff... CS left my bag a while back cause I spin it to much off of the longer clubs...

What is the magic elixir in the new cover ? Titanium, plutonium, kryptonite ? I gotta' know ; is it "liquid metal?" :read: :beruo:

Same here.  I struggle with driver launch but not iron launch. So I typically play the highest launching ball I can find off the tee which is usually the Srixon Soft Feel or Callaway Supersoft.

Had a talk with a shop Mgr last night on how this is a bad move and how most will say... "for $5 more, I can buy ProV's"

Time to find a new ball.  No reason for the price increase.  For years golfers played with balls that did not spin very much and played very well. Now everyone wants a high spin ball and the companies are taking advantage of it by increasing the price every year.  Going to find a low cost ball and learn adjust to a ball that rolls out.

Never fails to amuse,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Spend $500 on the latest and greatest driver for a minimal gain(?) on performance but balk at $1 (more or less) per round on what is, arguably, the most important piece of equipment in the game.

If you are looking for a premium Matte finish ball try Vice Golf. All the online tests put the performance of their pro soft ball close to the Pro V1 but a darn sight cheaper.

Ive been using them for a few months now and love the feel. They are only available online which is why they are cheaper than the V!

One the plus side though even at $44/dozen the latest ball that changed the ball blah blah blah (CS v3.0) would still be priced less at retail than the monumental flop of the Speed Regime balls. The SR balls were $47.99/dozen when they first hit retail. Same as the ProV1.

FYI, I never pay full price for any golf equipment so my current $500 driver cost me closer to $400.  Also, my last set of irons were in the bag for 8 seasons and I usually play drivers for about 4 seasons.

Look at the price of balls.  Let's say you play 100 rounds per year using 1 ball per round due to cart path damage or lost.  You could spend about $450 per year on balls or save some money and spend $300 per year on balls.  Multiply that out for 4 years, you could save enough to purchase that new driver that only goes a yard farther that what you have now.  I would also argue that my putter is more important that what ball I play.    Just thinking out loud...      :beach:

Oh, $400 for the new driver. That makes ALL the difference,,,,,,,,,,, :D

You "balked" at $44 for a dozen Chrome Soft. Since the current $31.50 is a temporary(?) deduction and the normal price of $39 will be back(?) shortly, you're talking about $5/dozen. That's less than 50 CENTS per ball.

You pay what, about $35 a round (if you're lucky), probably more like $50 a round. 100 rounds is $3,500-$5,000. And for 50 CENTS you'd sacrifice the best ball for YOUR game.

So OK, I'll multiply that out. 100 rounds times 4 years. 400 rounds times $35 (I'll give you the low end) = $14,000. 400 rounds times $.50 = $200. So you're going to spend $14K on 400 rounds playing a ball less fit for your game ? For $200 ?!?!?! :swoon2:

Just thinking out loud. ;)

I also think the Hex Chrome+ was a great ball. I prefer over the current Chrome Soft.  I wish they still made this ball.

I don't get it.  All this price creep in a market that everyone says is not growing.  So OEM's have to increase their prices to maintain their profit margins?  I wonder if any of them thought of decreasing their profit margins and increasing their units sold as a way to increase their profit margins?  Basic finance and in a diminishing market, it's a great temporary strategy.  Steal market share based on pricing, then make a moderate price increase year-over-year.  Going up $ 5 on a $ 39.99 price is a little extreme; especially if there is no performance improvement to go with it.

Hey, there's not bias on that site. Just ask and they will immediately tell you so. Just don't try and like any equipment by any manufacturer that doesn't sponsor one of their trips and you'll be fine.

As evidenced by the head of the lemmings starting his first shot across the bow at the M3 and M4 drivers - technology can't be revolutionary when you aren't a sponsor.

I wanted to make the Chromesoft my main ball but it just does not perform like my Taylormades. Price increase certainly does not help increase my interest.

There's a pro shop/range/fitting center near here that is STILL trying to get rid of speed regime balls

SR1 is a good ball - great spin around greens for the below 90's SS. It just doesn't make much of a sound.

What is the magic elixir in the new cover ? Titanium, plutonium, kryptonite ? I gotta' know ; is it "liquid metal?" :read: :beruo:

Graphene? In a new core. Not certain, but there is a new faster core.

Of course, Snell is coming out with a new Tour Ball at the same time - if price is a concern, go Snell.

Volvik has a market outside Asia? Still not seen anyone using a Volvik ball at my club.

My research indicates Volvik has about a 2% market share in the US, but it's increasing due to it's matte colored golf balls and increasing demographic of female golfers.
Plus, Bubba no longer plays their ball.

Be careful, the sycophants on the other site who are incredibly objective after being seeded with thousands of dollars of freebies will shoot down that logic!!

Hey, there's not bias on that site. Just ask and they will immediately tell you so. Just don't try and like any equipment by any manufacturer that doesn't sponsor one of their trips and you'll be fine.

What a clown show they are!!!

As evidenced by the head of the lemmings starting his first shot across the bow at the M3 and M4 drivers - technology can't be revolutionary when you aren't a sponsor.

I wonder if Callaway had done this what he would be saying. I hate it but he gives them a bad rap for me.

I get The Callaway jabs with those guys but this is from their front pg article.

“Introducing the M3 and M4 from TaylorMade Golf. You might notice a similar name and color scheme to that of the automaker BMW, but make no mistake about it, this is not a small evolution in technology from their previous lineup”

Seems like they are giving TM’s tech some credit.

The opening preamble however was not, when you start with a negative you lose your audience before they get to the heart of the story - this is by design:

The last year has been a tumultuous one for TaylorMade Golf. Gone are the days of a midnight driver launch, where golfers lined up to grab the latest and greatest from the company that was billed as the number one driver in golf. Back in May, the company was sold by adidas to KPS Capital Partners and the next several months were filled with a lot of changes internally.

Definitely not a THP apologist but I would say that is a pretty accurate description of TM in the recent past.  No ?
