February is a sketchy month for golf in the Williamsburg area you have a 50/50 chance of being able to play and having nice weather or there being snow on the ground.  Of all the winter months Feb is definitely the coldest.  That said there are some great courses in that area, I would suggest you take a short ride north about 20 min from Wiilamsburg and play a course called Vinatera you will not be disappointed, they held the Virginia qualifier for USGA Sr. Open there great track.

Thanks Jeff.  I'm in PA.  I'm trying to plan a little get away to break up the winter.  So March would be a better option?

March wouldn't be bad at all still a little cold but most of the rainy cold weather is gone by then.

I got married there a few years back and played with the guys at a few. Unfortunately it was during that hurricane that hit DC back 2 years ago. We played Ford's Colony and the Green Course at the Horseshoe. Great time and fun courses. Unfortunately extremely saturated because of the hurricane. I try and make it down there once a year and would not hesitate to play either again.

I went in March a few years ago and we had 2 good days of 4. And the 2 good days were only good because we had already suffered through a Canadian winter.

I live 45mins from Wburg and as someone said above, can definitely be a sketchy time weather wise for golf. Last couple years we have had big snowfall in early Feb.

But as far as courses go, there is Kingsmill River(hosts LPGA event, use to host PGA event), its a solid course but I think a little overrated. My personal favorite in Wburg has always been the Gold course at Golden Horseshoe, just reopened this summer after a greens, fairways, abd bunkers renovation. Good layout and 4 of the best par 3's you will find on one course. Haven't played it in years, but not to far from Wburg is Royal New Kent, its a Mike Strantz course if you have ever played any, very interesting courses.

February could be 30 or 60.  Most likely will have a frost delay in the morning and then will get to 45-50 during the days.  Courses will be wet and soft.
That said:
Golden Horseshoe Gold is the nicest course in the area.
Kingsmill is fine, but as someone else said a little overrated, though for Williamsburg public options would be the 2nd choice.  Golden Horseshoe Green would be last of those 4.
Eastern Shore, Bay Creek will probably have a better chance of not being frozen that time of year and both courses to me would slot behind Golden Gold but ahead of others.
Va Beach has some ok public courses as well.
The closer you stay to the shore, the warmer the overnight temps will be that time of year.

You may be able to play in VA in Feb or March, and you may find a foot and a half of snow. Last year we had a week of 60 deg in Feb and our biggest snow storm of the year in March.

I live in NoVA and we go to Myrtle Beach in mid to late March, and the weather can even be iffy there that time of year. One year we planned to play near Pinehurst on the way to Myrtle and got snowed out. We ended up having to find a course near Wilmington on the fly to get that round in.

I grew up there and still live pretty close.  I agree with everything above.  I'd also look at Virginia Beach and Bay Creek as was suggested.  It can get cold near the ocean, but there is rarely snow on the ground there even if there is snow 30 mins away.

I believe that you can only play Kingsmill now if you stay at the resort.  That was not the case previously.

Golden Horseshoe and Kingsmill River are the class of the area, can't go wrong with these. I worked at Kingsmill when I went to school in Williamsburg so I'm biased towards the River Course for nostalgia's sake.

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I am not going to be going to Virginia in Feb.  I would like to get there in the spring/summer for a long weekend.  We will be going to Myrtle Beach in Feb.  I found round trip flights out of Newark, NJ for 100.  Cant beat that.

I'm partial to Kiskiack in Williamsburg. Having grown up there (28 years in Williamsburg) and relocating to TN in 2005, I spent a better part of 15+ years as a player in that area from Williamsburg to Va Bch. I have heard good things about Vinatera but have not had the chance to play it.

First time I played Viniterra it was private and only 9 holes. They had maybe 20 members at the time with just a trailer for a clubhouse. Played all 18 when it was still private and a little more grown in...the course is a beast. If you are in the area Royal New Kent is a must play. Totally dumbfounded the first time my wife and I played there. Not to miss.

yes, it is with United.  First checked bag is 25 dollars (golf bags included as long as it's under 50 lbs)  Clothes will be going in pockets of bag.  The only thing is a restricted carry-on size.  I called United and as long as your carry on fits under the seat in front of you, it's okay.  A standard back pack will be fine she said.

I grew up in that area and live just north of there half the year (the warm half).  Lots of quality golf, but February absolutely sucks weather-wise.  Wet and cold, not much sun.
