So bought the 917 d3 head on an educated whim having hit the 913 version well for years and liking the sound of less spin. Stuck my existing VS Proto 60-X shaft in and off we went. Sadly romance failed to blossom and at the point of going back to the 913 in desperation I took the 12g neutral weight out to experiment. Instant change with faster club head speed, less hooking and still low spin.
Anyone else disillusioned should give it a go. Hope it works for others

Haven't tried this myself for fear the clubhead would explode!! I kid

I'll have to try this at home on the launch monitor and see what it does for spin, launch and ball speed.   I'll report back if my findings explode heads, literally and metaphorically.

Maybe a slightly sharper sound Saskwatch but certainly no negatives for me. Crossfield found a very light weight let him swing faster throughout his round. Please don't forget to post your findings here. Interested to see the numbers.. some of us don't have launch monitors.

I'll put something together once I get around to giving this a go.

12g is a lot to remove from a driver head. Maybe you just swing better with a lighter Swing weight.

Maybe so but the 913 while not having a weight added felt heavier in the head than the 917 minus the weight and worked very well. Certainly able to swing harder and still avoid the hook than before. Do try it if you haven't already.. what have you got to lose?

Swing weight on my 917 D3 with a stock Whiteboard 70 was D5 at 45 inches, just took half inch off the shaft, and removed the 12 gram weight, it feels much better, have not hit it yet though.

Well that was short lived, only lasted one round. I played on Saturday and was spraying the ball all over the place, on Sunday I put the 12 gram weight back in before my round, and was hitting nice and straight once again. I'm sure it's mental, but the weight stays in for me, wish it would have worked out.

Is it legal to play W/Out the weight? Is the toe open?  I remember I think it was CHIII getting DQ because the toe cap fell off a SLDR.

I just bought a 917 D3 head and it was very heavy with the stock 12g weight. I put a Oban 65g in it that plays just over 45" and SW was waaaay up almost into E0
so pulled the weight and was about D0...then added few grams back with strip of cotton gauze into the weight chamber...
and BOOM! now perfect D2 and head sounds sweet

I dunno, 12 grams = 6 swing weight points and that would take my driver down to D0 which I can tell you right now would NOT go well. Everyone is different of course I need that weight to feel like I can sense where the clubhead is.

I wish I would have tried this before getting rid of it but oh well... The 913 D2 head I have feels a little lighter than the 917 did.  Would have been cool to try.
