Late fall/early winter kicked in today.  I may be able to get one more round in later this week if the weather forecast holds for a nice day on Friday.  Otherwise I'm looking at 4-5 months of withdrawal, sadly swinging my clubs in the den hoping not to take a divot out of the new rug.

How do you survive winter without golf?

Golf dome and simulators. Because of the cold weather, both are opening a bit early this year.

At home there will be putting and short game fundamentals. A fair amount of tempo work on both: one-and-two.

I think the way to survive the long, cold, and dark winter with some bit of sanity is to look at the time as an opportunity.

Tin Cup reruns on The Golf Channel.
Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Ha! Surviving winter in Phoenix means trying to figure where the heck to play for less than $100. Maybe a first world problem, but don’t kid yourself, it’s a problem.

There is nowhere near you that has indoor areas for Golf with Sims? I know those aren't ideal, but even some of the Big Box Stores like Dick's and Golf Galaxy offer the ability to rent their Sims for 30-60 at a time.

We have an indoor place by me where you can play a huge variety of courses on their Sim for $45 an hour on the Sim.

Ya, you guys up north have sim golf. All my Canadian friends talk about their
rounds played all over the world.....how they shot 62 at Winged Foot.....never
mind the 12' gimmes, lol. We have no sim golf in the south and are forced to
play on real courses OMG......in brutally cold 50 degree weather. :D

I feel your pain. The UK has had a wet summer and since mid September our course has gone into winter mode faster than I can ever remember. It is soaking and the greens have been tined and sanded. The dreaded fairway mats are mandatory from 1st November. This year our course has been in tip top condition for no more than three months and now winter has arrived early. Time to get the holiday brochures out again..

Discovered sims last winter. $45 an hour, great way to spend a few hours and keep swinging. It's nor perfect but its better practice, imho, than mindlessly banging balls. Plus it keeps my golf brain alive.

Living in NJ, my group played at least once per wk this past winter. As long as you’re walking and the sun is out, it’s completely do-able and a lot of fun. Only do 9 holes and do a couple guys golf trips to Vegas or AZ and it’s all good

I'm lucky to have outdoor golf where I live.  Two driving ranges and three golf courses in the area and they all shut down tight for the winter.

Heated hitting bays, simulators , chipping and putting in the basement and maybe get a hitting net and mat. I'm just short enought to take full swings in the unfinished part of my basement.

Unless there's snow on the ground here in MA some local courses remain open throughout the year.  It can be cold but if you dress correctly, and in layers, it's fine.  I've played golf down to the mid-20s and it was fine.  Granted we're not talking great golf rounds as the ball can occassionally bounce crazily, but it's still fun and pretty good on a sunny day too.  Most times there's hardly anyone out playing so it's really quiet and peaceful and you still get a nice walk in as well.  Plus there's a few ranges that stay open all year, some with heaters, so even in snowy conditions you can still hit balls.  Still rather play in warm weather but it's at least playable for the most part.

We don't normally get much of a winter in the south of the UK either. I think it's been four years since the last snowfall and even then it's usually only an overnight deal that has gone within a week. My buddy and I usually manage to play almost every weekend. I've said before that it's the rule of three: Wind, cold, rain. Any two out of three is fine.

We do also get some frosty mornings. Funniest thing I saw last year was my drive on a par 3. It came down on a frozen green and shot off across a car park.
