So I am relocating to Jacksonville, FL for work. I have been blessed to play at an outstanding private club in the Memphis area with a good group of scratch players. I have looked into a few clubs in the Jax area and just wanted to see if anyone could tell me if there is a club that has a decent group of scratch players that want to play for a little something. Iíve heard San Jose has a little group but wondered where else to look also. Thanks...

Deerwood and Pablo Creek both have good players.

It depends where in Jax you will be moving. If downtown/riverside , then San Jose is probably your best option. If at the beach, then Sawgrass country club or Pablo Creek would be the best option.
Pablo creek is the most exclusive club in town. It is an absolutely pristine course, but also quite pricey.

Pablo Creek is probably a bit out of the price range. I was hoping to get in somewhere for 20k. San Jose is actually running a deal where you can get in for 10k. Interesting that az2au says Deerwood. I wouldnít have guessed that, but good to know. Obviously I want I course in good shape with good, fast greens but I also want to compete a bit when I come play. To me, golf is fun when youíre competing and finding a group of good players at the same club isnít always the easiest thing to do. Thanks for the suggestions.

I heard Atlantic Beach CC is really good, not sure about the talent out there though. Timuquana is a great track as well.

Good luck, I spent some time in Jacksonville and really loved it.

Atlantic Beach is solid track. Sawgrass or TPC would be the best bets though in my opinion.

There's some good ones in St. Augustine as well that would be worth a look. Marsh Creek and Palencia (I think Furyk used to play Palencia regularly).

Timuquana is a great Donald Ross course and a good club. Lots of great golfers have come out of there of course.  But on the westside, so not where most people are moving to in Jax

I've played at Palencia several times.  GREAT golf course and there are some decent sticks out there.
Nice neighborhood too, if you haven't found a place to live yet.  We looked into moving there for awhile but decided to stay put in Hilton Head for now.

Deerwood, San Jose, Jax Golf, ABCC, Sawgrass CC and Timuquana would be my choices.  All have plenty of good players and really depends on where you live

I am still a member at Palencia. When you get into town let me know and we can play our at my course. We have a few decent players but a ton of mid handicap/high handicap. Palencia is day in and out one of the hardest courses I have ever played.

Heard a rumor Palencia is going fully private 1 January 2018. Is that true?

How are the greens doing at Palencia? Heard they caught some damage from the hurricane?

They are actually in the best shape I have ever seen them. They are around 9. 5 and true and smooth. They are only going to get better. Yes they were really bad for a long time. Palencia has really taken on a new shape. If you have not played the course in over a year it will really shock you.

To the full private.... I do believe it is true. I am good friends with the regional GM. So we will go full private but the real question will be will we maintain that status. Meaning can we keep making money and maintaining the golf course. It will be a interesting venture that I will enjoy seeing work out.

Timuquana in my opinion is the best club by a fair margin. Best course, membership, facilities etc. I played there last week, on a weekend and no chance there were 15 golfers total out there, but those that are....are strong golfers and beyond friendly!

Sawgrass CC is non stop packed, tee times, and older players. Horrible club house, but nice beach club

Atlantic City, good/decent course..lot of good players

Pablo Creek I think is beyond over rated. It's a good course for sure!, but it's not "that good" to have the ego so many members have there. Strong golfers there though.

Pablo is hard to get on even when you know people. I have played it twice and it was a treat because there is nothing out there. I have heard they have not been in the best shape recently. Might be easier to make a phone call to plantation.
