I have thought about this for a few years.  At 48 I was thinking it was time to start tuning up for my Senior years.  Hadn't played anything for 20 years or so (just club stuff).  Play in US Mid AM and the State MID AM.  Didn't finish the US Mid AM - 36 holes in 95 humid weather wasn't for me.  Ended up 21st in State Mid Am and then found out the Sr Am stuff was 55.  Ugh - LOL.

For me, age seemed to temper down the desire of hitting the driver long over hitting it straight. Maybe more of a strategic style over a macho style.

I resemble this.  I was scratch at 50 based on tournament scores.  Now nearly 58 and I am a weak 6 based on casual rounds.  The worst thing is I am retired now and can play as much as I want.  Game is too week to consider USGA qualifiers or even State Am anymore.

Turned 50 a few weeks ago and for the past couple of years rededicated myself to playing. Played in a few local individual events and played well.  I get to practice and play a few times a week and would like to play some state level events. I know I am competitive, and love tournament play. I just wished the state and usga would have Senior events that start at 50 not 55. I not scared of these college kids but it would be nice to compete in a few tournaments with guys closer to my age.
C'mon, im 48, qualified for the GAM championship this year with a 70, and I bunt it out there 230.  Medallist was 67.  Won my club championship in 2015 and played against a college player in the finals who hit it 50 by me all day.   It can be done!!!

They changed the age limit to 50 for Arnie to rescue the senior tour.  Which he did.  You guys are no Arnie.

Sixty years ago today this golfer was born.  Be it the competition, fellowship, cracking the swing code, playing in the spirit of those no longer with us, yoking it up with those who are with us, enjoying new or vintage equipment, and yes even finding something the "other guy" did seemingly worthy of ridicule (lol)....

Whatever it is that winds our watch about this game I (we) should all be so lucky to have another 60 years of connectivity to this goofy game.  We're perhaps dying a little each day if we cared to even think of it that way.  But the game will outlive us all and make living a whole lot larger.

Can't speak for the masses but I wish nothing but the best to all who refuse to let age be the yardstick for playing or not playing at any level.  Let's fight the good fight until we just can't and go down swinging our swings!
A cynic sees the cost of everything
and the value of nothing.

Don't ever believe that!  There is good golf in front of you.......maybe some of the best you've played.

At 62, shot my career low last week, 65, in the Senior golf association I play with on Wednesdays.  I don't play in any of the local, state or regional competitions anymore as golf isn't that important to me now.........simply an activity I enjoy.

Those 5 years earlier than 55 are considerable, generally speaking. JP is surprised they have the seniors at 55 honestly, because from what JP has seen from folks these ages are that over 60 is where the distance loss seems to be more acceleratedly pronounced. Of course, exceptions abound....then there’s Bernard Langer...

I’ve read through all the posts on a WRX thread for the first time in while. It must be because I’ve played all my life but I’m 44 know and I’m concerned, too.

I have to chuckle at some of you pups. I'm in my mid seventies and I still think my best golf is ahead of me. I didn't break par until 71. You just have to accept the ball don't go as far as it used to. The rest of the game is the same and hopefully you already made all the stupid mistakes.

One thing to consider: is it time to get refitted for clubs?

A couple of years ago, a clubfitter in Golf Digest recommended that players reassess their club mix at age 53. (Don't know why 53 is so magic, but you get the idea.) Make sure your clubheads and shafts match your swing capabilities for right  now, not from 10 years ago.

I hung onto stiff shafts for about five years too long. Besides losing distance I messed up my swing tempo struggling with the shafts. Just a thought.
