Longest round of golf I've ever experienced was during a charity scramble. They decided to tee off 36 teams all at one time. Each group played with another group so 10 players in the group at one time (teams were made up of 4 plus a celebrity). Took 7 and a half hours to play with waiting on nearly every shot and stackups on the par 3s. It was awful. Probably didn't help that all of the beer and alcohol was free during the entire event. Guys and some girls were drunk and stumbling around. Needless to say the next year they made a morning and afternoon wave. Any other miserably long rounds out there?

That's nothing, there is someone that just posted about his group taking 5:45 minutes with no waiting here in this very forum.  I am appalled.

Touche....

Had a 7 hour scramble this year......  5 Hours day 1 and 7 day two.  Actually somehow survived and played 5 hour rounds that felt longer......  Mentally was prepared for a long round and long it was.

Was invited to play an exclusive private club and after 6 holes was rain and lightning out.  One year later invited again  and after 6 holes was stormed out.  Another year later was again invited.  However, this time I suggested we start on number 7.  We finished all 18 in a little over three hours.  BUT, actually, I say the round took 3 years to play!

A Breast cancer benefit, 36  6 man teams, with a putting contest at the turn. Took somewhere around 7 hours. My group was on a first name basis with the beer cart girl during that one.

Back in July. I had a round when I was hooking just about every shot. 3 putted half the holes and it was 95 degrees. That felt like the longest round I ever played.

Time is relative in this case...but I was playing an end of year athletic booster scramble that lasted about 6 hours. Remember that I live in Maine and "end of year" basically means early November. Temps were below freezing (because it started spitting snow), the wind was gusting to 20-25 mph, and it had rained the night before, so the ground was soggy and freezing up. Not a fun situation when each team has 5 players and the group of ladies in front of you decide to start dancing over every holed par putt. I couldn't feel my limbs at the end and my father's joints locked up and I had to help him to the car.

I've read about a lot of long long rounds playing in charity scrambles. It seems
those are the longest rounds by far.  I can hear everyone mumbling to themselves
"this is for a good cause this is for a good cause this is for a good cause.

This is for a good cause!!! I wish I was home right now.

Played the Brabazon course at the Belfry on a Saturday a couple of years ago.... enormous error. All 4 balls the vast majority occasional golfers using buggies (carts) remarkably inefficiently, was backed up across the entire course. Round took 6 hours and really hurt my experience of a great course. Played it in the week when it's quieter since and it's a great day out.

I walked off a course on the 13th hole during 4th of July weekend a few years back.  I felt bad because I left three other guys hanging, but I had had it.  I was playing like absolutely garbage, pissed-off, and we were on the 13th tee box at the five-hour mark.  I've never experienced such a slow, miserable round in my life.

I was at an outing this past summer that was even worse, but it was a bunch of guys and we were all pretty sloshed.  There were a lot of hacks that were more interested in drinking than playing.  The round started at 1pm and it was 6pm when I finally called it quits.  Had it not been a Sunday, and an hour away from home, I would have finished.  I have no idea how many we had left to play.

5.5 hours at my club a couple of years ago. It's only a 5,800 yard course but that day a society was playing. Societies always seem to be a bit slow but this one must have been the Slow Golfers Society. Most peculiar is that they seemed to have brought groupies with them. There were golf carts zipping around all over the place. At first we thought they were just hitting a lot of wayward shots but then we noticed that no-one got out of the carts when they stopped then after a while they'd move off somewhere else.

The only good thing about that day was that one 'spectator cart' turned up at the 18th tee as it was then in time to see me achieve the rare feat (for me) of sending a ball clear over the pond and across to the other side of the 'valley' :)

We made the terrible mistake of playing a course on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend.  It was loaded with people who play once a year with Dad and it was a 6 hour and 30 travesty.

Pick your course very carefully for Fathers Day. Mothers Day is a breeze in this area.

6.5 hour 4 man scramble. It was a big end of year event with $100 a man buy in, so the prize and skins were pretty large. In order to ensure nobody cheated they put 2 groups of 4 together, 8 men per group. On top of that it was a greenskeepers revenge style, so greens cut tight, rolled and pins in the worst spots. We were the first group and the guys we played with were the slowest, most methodical and anal golfers I've ever seen, and unfortunately they set the pace for the rest of the event. The event had a weird rule where they didn't cap the amount of clubs in the bag, so one guy literally had 4 drivers at his disposal to choose from given the wind conditions, and he would debate with his partners on the tee which to choose. Each man looked over every putt and chip from both sides and fixed every ball mark near their line. At one point we putted out and I walked to the rest room as they had an 8 footer, only to come back to them still discussing the read; nobody had putt yet. Never again.

I played one 4th of July, we teed off at 10am, had a 9am tee time. We finished up front nine at 1:30pm. The back nine was like a crawl, coming up the 18th hole it was 6pm when we teed off, finished around 6:20. I was exhausted and missed dinner, i ate when I got home.

Had a similar experience.  In my case, there was my team and two others tied for the lead after the first day.  So, they sent us off in a TWELVESOME.  Twelve guys teeing off on every hole, twelve balls to be found and identified, twelve putts to be pondered ... it was endless.  Every one of the twelve raised hell with the tournament director, but he insisted this was the only fair way to have us play.  This was in the height of summer in the Texas Panhandle, so it doesn't get dark until about 9:30.  We started at 2:00, finished in deep twilight, and only then because we were playing ready golf as much as possible.  Not a surprise, but none of the three groups managed to finish in the money, even with a lead to start.  To add a little insult, by the time we finished, the free food was all gone.

7.5 hours for a charity scramble.  Although it was really a festival of drinking that took place over 18 holes.

A few years ago I played the Disney Magnolia course and it took 6 hours and 10 minutes...in 95 degree August heat.  I basically swore off Disney courses after that.

7 hours, greenskeepers revenge.  Most scores were 80+, 3 man scramble, two groups per hole.  It was ok by me because the time wasnít spent waiting and we it was more of a party end of year tournament.  There were a number of holes your group needed to make a 15 footer or the ball would be by your feet an not a single one where you could stop the ball within 5.

Thanks, my friend. In hindsight, I should have talked my dad into going back after nine. He was really messed up for a day or two. I love Fall golf the most, but it has to be faster than that.

What course was the event at?
