Over the years most of my golf friends would ask me to take a look at their swing whenever things were going sideways for them.  A few years ago we had a new member at the club that I had not played with and someone told him to ask me to take a look at his swing.  When I went down to the range I noticed (I'm fairly observant) that he was standing on the wrong side of the ball.....

I tried to help the guy but I'm pretty sure his handicap climbed 5 points by the end of the day.

My brain just can compute the southpaw swing.

i think "awful" is a bit much, but it is amazing how much different their motions look when flipped. And I'm not just talking about because it a mirror image, it looks completely different. very interesting though to me.

Bubba screen flipped is fine, nothing surprising to me there. Same with Tiger the other way, but that Foley swing was hideous from either side so whatever. But Phil....there are so many things I didn't notice. That little "scrunch" move through impact, how much he redirects the club in the downswing, and how "stumpy" the whole thing looks. From the left things looked much more long and flowing, from the right he looks like someone with arms that are 6" shorter than normal swinging a club.

When you first started playing - did you try righty and it didn't work?

Not at all. I'm very much left handed in all aspects. I have swung a club a couple of times righty, and suffice it to say, it's atrocious. It is the least athletic, most uncoordinated movement I have ever seen. Much like my regular lefty swing, with no ball it doesn't look too horrible, but put a ball down and I try to hit it, everything goes out the window.

That looks insane!

If only TW could really swing lefty. He recently said his left knee has been "trashed" for over 15 years....

I've always liked Phil's swing, because it doesn't look like anyone else's.  When you shift it around to righty, it looks less unique, but still a big rip of a golf swing.

Understood.  Most golfers have the same problem.  It's the ball being there - not the swing.


I can hit a ball left-handed off the tee fairly well, but not off the ground.  I hit like a mile behind it.  
What's weird is that I can flip a right-handed club upside down and hit it lefty off the ground.  
The brain is a complex thing.
