First, I will admit that I have a bag/headcover problem. I obsess over this stuff with an undeniable level of OCD and love the presentation brought by a solid bag/headcover setup.

That said, I have never really liked this style of headcovers that's become the norm over the last ~5 years. They were kind of cool when the aftermarkets first came out because they were different. I do own a few and think they do look nice with the right style of bags, particularly more vintage style carry bags. I've seen VERY few oem headcovers that don't look stupid to me. Not only are the materials cheap looking and usually feel and look like plastic but, they're always about 4" too short and they look like lollipops hanging out of a golf bag. I just think modern "techy" golf bags looked better with the previous style headcovers that were angled and had the sock neck to cover and protect the shaft.

I wouldn't, necessarily, say that I'm "sick" of this style, but I am certainly not a fan. I much prefer the angled with longer sock neck style over the current trend. I also feel, as you stated, that they seem to be too short, and would seem to not protect the club shaft as well. But, everybody is different in what they like, and sometimes people like things just because it's something new or different. So, I have no problem with the "new" style, I just won't be purchasing or using anything that looks like it, in my bag.

I would agree , I like the Pom Head Covers for that reason, the leather straight covers are too short. My favorite cover of all time is probably the Titleist 983 cover.  Nice looking and functional.

I like the pom pom covers, too.

For me, the high tech doesn't cut it.

another + for the pompoms. The vintage looking ones have their place and can look good but e.g. the callaway epic headcovers look weird to me, vintage with a colour scheme like it came from star trek.

I'll take anything over the "stock" head cover that you get with the club because they look more and more like a NASCAR these days.

I also hate the vintage style hardcovers, they just do not look good in modern bags, and on top they do not protect the shafts enough. But I like the idea of custom head covers, unfortunately nobody seems to offer the angled, modern covers with the socks. Please let me know if I am wrong....

Those are just a trick to get people to buy after-market head covers and are absolute rubbish. If they don't want to protect the shaft, at least make them like Nike covers with the Sumo and Dymo drivers.

Much happier with this new bag/setup. This is what a bag should look like, I wish they'd go back to these headcovers soon.

i have leather ones on mine at the moment -- i'm not a huge fan of how the shafts on the driver/3w are exposed leaving them susceptible to damage. i wish the older OEM covers would come back b/c they had the sock that went down into the bag.

leathers do look class AF tho.

Correction: Leather headcovers CAN look classy. If done right. IMO there is nothing classy about the look below.

I am not a fan of what you think a bag should look like. I can slip my driver/woods into their headcovers while they are lying on the ground, and they protect my shafts just fine. Everyone I see with covers like yours are two-hand struggling with them after each shot or leaving them off to avoid the hassle. OEM's, not for me, psuedo-vintage-looking or otherwise, with the exception of Titleist. Good leather head covers, or Seamus-like covers, all day long.

I hear you. Not trying to start a debate as this is all based on subjective opinion. I don't "hate" the other covers, I do own some great covers from Robert Mark, Seamus etc. I will admit my opinion and this post is based solely on aesthetic preference about how they look in the bag. Regarding the use of them, I agree with you entirely. It's definitely a little harder to get the sock style on with two hands. But it's not something I really think about as anything that matters. If I'm walking I have my bag on the edge of the tee box and if riding I walk my driver to the tee box with the cover on usually. I'm often playing from the back tees with others playing up so I have plenty of time to get the cover back on without delaying anything.

My brother has arthritis and still struggles with the sock type, no matter how much I expound on the virtues of my preferred style, so I am totally in agreement with "to each his own." He loves the look, and I am just glad he is still out there trying despite his physical challenges. I try to make sure he is back in the cart and on the way to his ball before struggling to get his headcover back on.

I think its driven by the idea of reducing cost. Sewing up an oven mitt seems a lot easier then a traditional cover with multi material (sock/cover/etc)

Yeah I considered this as the most likely scenario. The old style covers were getting pretty elaborate and I think once the "vintage" style got a little popular they all ran with it. It does make sense, just wish they'd at least make them a little longer.

Slightly unrelated, I was also wondering lately if the average stand bag is also a little but shorter now? Cutting 1" or so off the top would certainly help in the race to make the lightest bags?

I think this is the final straw for me. I know I'm OCD and hung up on mostly aesthetics but as much as I love these headcovers and want to use them, I can't stand the lollipop look. Was excited to get this bag but it looks like it's not going to make the cut. Time for plan b.

Give me leather/faux leather or poms/socks head covers over those awful Transformers head style ones of the 913/915 Titleist style. They were huge and a PITA to get off/on.
Also if you need to use the top of your bag in inclement weather, they were doubly PITAs.

IMO the thing I think you guys are missing is the headcover part of a bag is about creativity.  I think the stock headcovers that come with the clubs doesn't show creativity.  An example is my 3 yr old daughter got me a "Boxer" headcover similar to Rory dog headcover mine is a Boxer due to the fact that we have a real Boxer.  My point is if I were to use the OP as a guide my bag would be a disaster according to his standards, please understand I fully understand where he is coming from in many ways simply just trying to show a different spin on this topic (which is a good one).  I do love various headcovers and do agree the leather ones can look very classy but do leave the shaft susceptible to damage which sucks.  I love some of the American Flag themed ones (Illiac and Seamus, fallen) but again they will leave the shaft open to damage.  I think to wrap up my opinion is be yourself and not to over worry on some "look" that you are presenting to be honest nobody will care.

OEM's have ruined the trend of the "old style" headcovers, agreed on reproducing cheap looking etc.

Woods, I agree. This post was not to give the idea that anyone should conform to anything. I was just wondering if anyone shared my opinion. Like you and others have said, individuality is the key. I admittedly have ocd with MY bag and I don't ever judge anyone else based on theirs. I have issues with the way I want the clubs and my bag to look and I admit it's crazy. And just because I said that I don't see anything "classy" about the look posted up above in this thread, I hope people know I don't judge other golfers based on whether their bags meet some sort of standard I've created in my head. It's 100% personal and to each their own. FWIW, I have a Husky headcover as well!!

I actually hated the leather styled headcovers but recently I was forced into trying them. I have always used the normal sock headcovers that my woods had come with, they are all around 10 years old. However, they were becoming rather beat up and worn out so I decided to buy some new headcovers. I have the red/grey/white c130 sun mountain bag so I tried to go with a red/white theme. I ended up getting Robert Mark headcovers and I must say I absolutely love them. I think they match my bag pretty well and they are all pretty fun. I got the shooting panda red for my driver, the sushi hyprid headcover, and the 3 donuts 3 wood headcover. So that way when you see my bag from behind it goes white, red, white.

I am also pretty obsessed with how my bag looks and think its matches well and looks significantly better than my tattered and worn out headcovers. I'm telling myself that maybe it'll get me to postpone getting new woods....

I love the dog headcovers, great post!  I love headcovers it gets to a point where I finally am content with my bag so the only thing I can HO are headcovers so I appreciate greatly a post like this.

I never had OCD's relative to my golf bag, headcovers, etc.
HAD is the operative word in my opening sentence because now, I have been victimized with the GOLFWRX obsession and require matching everything with my bag.
It has gotten so darn bad for me, that I am thinking about selling my push cart (which has been very good to me ) all because it has green spokes on the wheels and I cant find anything that matches it to my Red Ogio Cart bag.
