Thinking of going LTD to G30 (non-LS) to try to gain some accuracy - worth it or nah?

I love my LTD, but have been itching for something new as I have had it for 2 full seasons now. Or in WRX years, several decades.

I absolutely pound it (distance wise), and for the level of spin that it gives me, the forgiveness is great.

But if I am honest with myself, I still have too many OBs for my handicap, which has me hitting lots of G25 4wood off the tee

I find the G25 4 wood super easy to square up, and would like that confidence in driver

I guess my general question is: do you guys think an increase in MOI automatically generates better accuracy (less yards offline)?

What is the club length on the LTD?  If it is playing at 45" +, you could take some length off. That usually helps hit a few extra fairways.

Otherwise, the G30 might be a good experiment.  The sound and feel leave a little to be desired, but it is as forgiving as anything.

I'm 6'1 and already play it at 44". I also play it lofted up to help close the face. Looking for mostly directional help, not necessarily more consistent ball striking

The LTD is pretty addictive.  I have a G LS that I don't really like to play anymore because of it.  You may gain a smidge of forgiveness with the G30, but will sacrifice that LTD feel.  I would wait for the LTD replacement!

OP you're referring to the Cobra LTD correct? I have a G30 and demoed the LTD at a demo day. I really struggled with the LTD, granted I wasn't fit for it. Club doesn't spin enough for me while the G30 spins a tad too much. You'd probably be better off with one of the LST models if you hit the LTD fairly well.

Yeah the LTD is super addictive. I hit distances well beyond what I should for my swing speed

And I wouldn't go the the G30 LS, that's too similar

As a broader question: has anyone ever gained notable improvement in accuracy by switching from a low spin driver to a high MOI driver? ( I can't even say h*gh sp*n)

I went from a Fly Z (high moi) to the Ltd.
I haven’t been using my Game Golf lately, but I don’t think that I’m missing a lot more fairways. Forgiveness is pretty high.
I would never go back to the Fly Z.

I played the G30 for a while off and on, hated the LST version, liked the regular at 9* much more.  With that said, I did not find it to be any more forgiving than the LTD honestly.  I hit as many fairways with my LTD when (when its in the bag) as I did my G30 and like you said, I feel the distance is silly for my swing speed.  If I am not gaming the LTD I find I gravitate towards Titleist drivers if I want that accuracy, something about the older alignment aid suits my eye.  If you're just looking for a change, the G30 can be a fun driver to play I just wouldn't expect to be wowed by it.

I sold all my LTD shafts and set ups last week . Too
out of nowhere  odd bad shots and driving is one of my strengths. I ended up trying (and buying) my friends 915d3 w AD BB and despite the lack of wrx love for it, I love it. Just point and shoot for me and didn't give up any yardage.

Currently playing the LTD and find it scary straight. My miss is a hook, but it's never the club. Always my stupid forward shoulder creep when pressing. If I just swing within myself, it's just automatic straight. Can't see anything being better.

HOWEVER, I recently experimented with a 48" driver using my LTD Pro and a SpeedRul Z A Type 60 TX. Except for the SW, it was a NUKE! Flew several balls right into the trees about 20' off the ground at my local range. Rarely fly into them at all with my normal driver. But it's a bit wild due to the heavy SW (E3!!) Looking for a counterbalanced shaft to see if that makes the weight any more agreeable.

The Ping G25 has been a very forgiving driver for me, and just as long as any of the others that I have played.

Rick Shiels found that it was, what, 3 yards shorter than the G400?
On Sundays, I used to play hickory

Given how forgiving all the current drivers are, I have a tough time believing that OB's would be helped much by a change in the head. If you still like the LTD, I'd try and find a shaft that gives you better dispersion before switching clubs.

I played the G30 LS, G LS, and now the G400 LS.  I was asked to participate in the Wrx gear trials a few years ago and addicting is the right word for the LTD.  It was the longest driver for me, I bought one and confirmed 10 yards longer on the course.  I had the exact same issue, as a 0 with a good short game I need to avoid OB and just had too many crooked drives with the LTD.  I gave it a run for ~4 weeks including a few tournaments and after a bad tournament round shelfed it and went back to the Ping.  Iíve been driving the ball the best I ever have since switching to Ping back in the G30 days, just too much added confidence standing over the ball.  I also play mine short, slightly longer than you do.

The G400 is like the LTD in that it has for me an addictive feel and sound, miles better than the previous versions.  If you live somewhere where golf season is wrapping up I recommend waiting and sniping a g400 for cheap come early spring.

Have them both and the LTD is in the bag  for now even after buying a AD DI for the Ping.

If anyone is curious enough in comparing the LTD to the G30, feel free to check out the Game Golf club stats in my signature.

I think you'll find most of the comments here are backed up with my GPS-confirmed results.

P.S. agreed - the LTD is an absolute joy to use.

I would never go back to the Fly Z.

... I am the complete opposite. After playing the Fly Z with the 16gm weight in the back, I tried the LTD. While it produced some longer drives I just had direction control difficulty. One day fine and the next day I am missing left and right with different trajectories. Just never had that problem with the Fly Z or F6. The straightest driver I have played to date. I am playing an Epic that is longer for me and while not quite as accurate as the Z/F6 it is also not as directionally challenged as the LTD was for me.
