Hi,

I have an M2 driver and M2 3 Wood (both 2016 models) which I have barely used because of an injury in late 2016, so golf wasn't possible for me in 2017 either. Only hit a very few balls. So they are in really good condition.

Now I have been offered a trade to a brand new Titleist 917 driver and 3 Wood.

The trade is...

I get a brand new 917 D2 driver and F2 3 Wood from him and he gets my M2 driver and 3 Wood and like €350 euros ($415 USD).

Would you take it if you wanted to change to Titleist?

Yes/No? Why?

Wait, you're giving up a driver, a three wood and $415 for a driver and 3 wood?

No, that's a terrible trade. Take the $415 and buy a driver and three wood off of eBay!

I'm not into buying used equipment.

And do you know how much value TaylorMade clubs from 2016 has today? They are like -75% discount?

To each their own then. You asked yes/no and why.

No, because you're eating the depreciation on a new golf club twice in the same transaction.

I would say not because of the cash side of things. If the other party wants it that bad I would work him down, that's a steep offer for cash on top

Horrible deal for you.  You are getting very little out of your M2 driver and M2 fairway.

Walk away.

I was just thinking like this. If I had to buy new Titleist clubs where I live it would be like:

917 driver = $515
917 fairway = $315
Total = $830

Value of my M2ís today:

2016 M2 driver = $240
2016 M2 fairway = $175
Total = $415

So I just too the price of the new Titleist minus the difference and thought it was okay.

But I guess there are many views on this.

Maybe my M2 Woods are more worth than the internet price. I know Iím getting very little out of my M2.

Iíll reconsider. Thanks.

I'd keep that $415 and continue playing the M2 woods. You can use that money later to buy TM's next update model for the M2.

Terrible deal, here's why (just did all the math for you)

3balls.com has 15% off store wide

You can get a like new 917 driver and 3 wood for $530

You can trade in your 2016 M2 driver and 3 wood (115% value right now) for $210

$530
- 210

$320 out of pocket for new driver and 3 wood.

Hell, if you got the 915 you would probably crap yourself on how much you would save!

That guy is trying to sucker you into a bad deal using a connection at titleist. You'll hate it when you do the trade only to find your barely used m2 clubs on BST for $400

I like my 917 D2, but if you havenít been....Iíd get fitted before buying or trading for them.  Getting the right weight(s) and hosel setting made a tremendous difference to me, and you are essentially paying for a new club so you should avail yourself to a new club experience.

Thanks for the math, but you have to understand that prices in Europe are different that in US.

The cheapest way to getting those Titleist woods are $830 for driver and fairway.

As I wrote I can at the best get like $400 in total for my current M2 driver and fairway ... Then I still need $415-430 to buy new Titleist clubs and that is what I need for the trade.

But thank you all for your replies... I think I'll wait and save my money for new Titleist clubs next year...

Whatever makes you happy of course.  I prefer Taylormade woods by a wide margin over Titleist.  Because of that, I wouldn't even consider that deal.  But that's me.

Funny, my Titleist PUD gets me a driver and fairway for $412. This is a horrible trade offer and the other person is trying to get a free M2 driver and 3 wood just for letting you use his discount. Bad form.

I also agree it is a bad deal. You are basically paying twice. You are also buying at the tail end of the season in some locations which will make prices on the titleist drop even more.

Why would you buy from a guy in Europe anyway? Seems sketchy. As far as the deal goes - He's trying to take advantage of you

To me it seems like you dont think its that good of a deal if you had to come on here and ask.  I would go with your gut.  Plus the 2016 M2 woods are some of the most remarked fairways ever.  Why switch?

The question is, how did you hit the M2 before you were injured?  If you hit it well, keep it!

I have both a 2016 M2 and a 917 D2.  I hit them about equally as well.  I don't think that I would trade an M2 for a 917 D2 if the M2 has a shaft that fits you.

ON the other hand, if the M2 isn't working for you for one reason or another, then a trade might be smart.

I think what bothers me is that the person selling the titleist gets them for 50% off based off of PUD as the previous person mentioned, making new clubs $415 after the discount. Then he wants to trade them for $415 cash plus a m2 driver and 3w. He pockets the cash and has a free driver and 3w. On the other hand buyer questions whether it is a fair trade. Well, it depends. At $830, youíre technically buying the clubs at retail price but paying only half of the cash and trading in your m2. If you consider how much youíve spent for the m2 then add an additional $415, you would be paying a much larger amount. But you get new clubs if thatís what youíre going for.

OP can take it however he wants. If he really wants the 917, go for it. But in this scenario, we all know who got the better deal.

The OP never said they were getting them at a PUD.  The other guy just assumed that.  I read this more as he is dealing with a shop and the money for his M2 is trade-in credit that he can then use against full retail of the 917 product, given the prices he is quoting, that makes the most sense.  Also, most people are not allowed to use their PUD for anyone but themselves or immediate family and risk a ban if anyone finds out.  That's how it works with my company anyways.

As others have said, it's a deal I wouldn't make.  And I would never risk my PUD benefit on trying to make a few dollars.  if that is in fact the case, which it sounds like, but we don't know for sure.    But if the OP can afford it and it makes him happy and gets him the clubs he couldn't otherwise get for that price, then who am I to tell him how to spend his money.
