Hello Guys,

I´m looking for new Irons. I was a long Time DG S300 Player. But elbow Pain let me sway away from them 4 Years ago.
Since then I ad a tons of Irons and Shafts and nothing comes close to the Dispersion.

I have a Flightscope and yesterday I have done a testing with some Irons.

- Mizuno MP5 with PX LZ 5.5 (my Gamers)
- Taylormade P750 with KBS FLT stiff
- Ping Iblade with DG S300

What makes me curious is, that the DG was the longest, straightest and highest of the 3 Irons. And the Differences are very noticeable. I can post the Pictures from Flightscope if interested.

So I´m thinking of a Shaft very very close to the DG S300, but with a little softer feel to it. Maybe going with the DG R400. Or Modus 130 in R.

I´ve found that going down a flex and going up in weight works well for me (feel wise). Maybe I have better timing with the heavier Clubs.

Swing speed with the Driver is 106mph. I had no Problems with Titleist 913 F RIP Phenom 80 in R Flex.

What you Guys think would be a good Option to try?

Thanks a lot

Have you given steelfiber's a try? Big regret selling my 125 cw's play a little stiffer to flex...but smooth

And this was the Ping Iblade with DG S300. All Irons has the same length and Lofts. The MP5 7 Iron is 1 degree stronger at 33 degree.

I have tried Steelfiber in 95 Stiff. Wasn´t for me. Felt stiff in my hands.

Maybe 125 in R Flex?

But if it would possible I want to stay at steel Shafts.

I forget to mention that the flightscope Specs are in Meters, not in Yards.

Any Opinions? Would be great

Soft step S300's once or even twice.  A 2x soft step puts us right about in the middle of R and S.  Could also try a Nippon Modus 120 in 'X' flex.  In all likelyhood, you're looking for a butt-soft, tip stiff profile.....and the question is just "how much".

The Modus 130 doesn't have this profile.  The 120 does....and takes it further compared to DG, where it's also mid soft

Yeah, I want that the Club feels smooth and a heavy, if that makes sense ?

But Nippon Modus 120 in X ??? I´m thinking about an R Flex in these.

You'd have to try them and see but I'd think given what you say is true (elbow pain) a softer shaft should help (like r300).  Or maybe just keep using s300s with sensicore or pro soft inserts?  it'll add weight, which you seem to like, and will also dampen vibration.

When measured, the bend profile in 'X' is softer than Dynamic Gold in 'S'

Have you tried KBS Tour X?  Not sure how KBS FLT compares.  KBS Tour X weighs the same as DG S300, but felt smoother to me.  They have slightly different bend profiles I believe.

I had the KBS Wedge in 130 X Flex in some Wedges Years ago. But Wedges are another thing than Irons. I have to try different Shafts.

Nippon Modus 125 will be roughly the same weight as DG S300 but have a smoother feel.  Dispersion is user dependent.

Have you considered just putting sensicore's in your S300's?  Might be a cheap experiment to order a couple and install them in your current irons just to satisfy your curiosity.

IMO/Experience the elbow pain will only worsen as the iron gets longer. You do need to lighten things up slightly. So, I'd consider Dynamic Gold AMT in S300 and give your "bows" a break.

(edit: and as Cwebb correctly mentioned, consider soft stepping. it does yield results in terms of "feel").

Thanks for your Reply,

So you mean soft stepping, or double Softstepping. Would the Shaft only feel more flexible, or will it lose the Dispersion Quality, because of Flex Change?

Double Softstepp in DG S300 or KBS Tour X130 sounds good.

The Mitsubishi OT iron shaft is perhaps as smooth as a shaft can feel. The profile is soft in the middle so somewhat similar to Dynamic Gold. Currently the heaviest listed is the X flex 105 at 110 grams but there are tour targeted 120 gram models, scheduled for release.

Costly but nice!

Always been a fan of Nippon shafts. For some reason they feel 'softer/less vibrations' for me. OP, I'm sure there is a Modus shaft that will fit your needs!? ;)

Double Softstepp in DG S300 or KBS Tour X130 sounds good.

Just put some prosoft inserts in them.  They work like sensicores and can be installed in any club.  https://www.valuegolf.com/prosoft-vibration-dampening-shaft-inserts/prosoft-vibration-dampening-insert-clubmaker-kit

With double softstepping and/or hard stepping you start to really affect the flex of the club as the tip section is going to be longer/shorter than it is intended to play.  If you want to do it properly, and skip the inserts, you have two options.

1) The first is to play a heavy, tour weight graphite like a Recoil 125 or Steelfiber 125.  That way you get the same weight and dispersion you are interested in with the vibration dampening qualities.

2) Take your clubs to a respected builder that knows how to ream heads to parallel (i.e opening the hosel section a bit to make it go to .370) and then choose your shaft, be it s300, X100, X7, KBS 90 R flex....it doesn't matter.  The builder can then properly tip and butt trim to the desired frequency you want and need for your swing speed, while keeping the weight and feel in a weight range you are comfortable with...hopefully in a shaft that will be easy on the joints.

Longtime DGS300 player here.  Another vote for something in the Nippon family.  I moved to them about 5 years back for all the same reasons you listed, couldn't be happier with them.

Can't really compare data with different set up.
Different shafts in different heads are not comparable.

I had golfers state they could feel the difference in the same model of driver heads with different std loft.  Seriously !

The only reason a steel tube will feel "softer with less vibrations", is if the bend profile is more flexible somewhere along it's length

I´ve tested the KBS Tour in stiff on the Flightscope. Not what I´m looking for. Can´t tell exactly what is missing, but the DG feels more crushed and is a good bit longer (4m).

I had the Nippon Modus 105 in stiff in the past in a Set of Srixon Z745. They were fine, but they could be heavier.

So should I look in the 120, the 125 or the 130?

I´ve tested the KBS Tour in stiff on the Flightscope. Not what I´m looking for. Can´t tell exactly what is missing, but the DG feels more crushed and is a good bit longer (4m).

I had the Nippon Modus 105 in stiff in the past in a Set of Srixon Z745. They were fine, but they could be heavier.

So should I look in the 120, the 125 or the 130?

KBS Tour has a very different bend profile than DG.  KBS Tour is butt stiff with a softer tip.  DG has a softer butt with a very stiff tip.  They are different.

If you like softer butt with stiff tip, then the Modus 120 is "extreme" in that regard.  Thus the recommendation to go up one flex.

Probably your "safest" bet is to just soft step the S300's one time and install some Prosoft Inserts.

If the Nippon 120 is extreme in the Tip, wouldn´t it make more sense to go down a flex to an R. Because you wrote go up a flex like X-Flex.

No, the tip in 'X' is not stiffer than DG in 'S'.  Forget about the letter that they assign to these shafts and instead realize that the bend profile is what matters most, in terms of flex.

I was going to post the profile comparison, but can't find the 120 'X' right now

The120 X flex will weigh120G while your DG S300 will be 130G. If you liked the Modus 105, why not try the Modus 125? The 125 S flex will weigh 128.5G, fly a touch higher and spin a bit less than DG S300 while feeling smoother.
