Heading on a golf trip in a couple weeks and renting clubs.  I emailed the club to book tee times and they said that "club rental will be $25 per 18 holes".  Is this ridiculous?  The way I see it, club rental should be for the entire day you are at the course, not for any specified duration of time.  What's next- extra cost to bring the rental clubs to warm up on the range before the round?  Is this not ridiculous?

If you're going on a "golf" trip, why not take your own sticks?...?

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that the golf shop would charge rental for the 2nd round... would you expect a free golf cart for the back-half of a 36-hole day?

It doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Most people only play 18 holes.
That means the course could potentially rent the same set twice in one day.
They could be giving up revenue to let you keep them for the entire day.
I would not expect them to do that.

Not having to drag my clubs through an airport, worry about the baggage guys tossing them around, or not arriving at the correct destination is worth the $50 rental fee, all day long.

Not ridiculous at all, pretty much within reason.

I'm deployed military so I don't have my clubs right now.  I guess I see what you all are saying, but I just don't want to pay twice.

I would consider that a very good deal honestly, Ii know most clubs in my area charge $50-75 per round. $25 is a great deal, even if you have to pay it twice.

From a golf course point of view.  I think that is an excessive money grab.  We would rent them for $30 and tell you to enjoy the 36 holes, and thank you for choosing our course.

I can only assume this is resort you're going to, where unfortunately they probably realize you have no alternative.

Doesn't make it right in my mind.  As for demand, most clubs including ours have multiple rental sets and it's very rare we use them all in a day. Again if it's a resort  i understand it could be a different demand.

This is what I am saying.  It's not like the clubs will be getting used a second time during a single day.  This is a regular golf course in Johannesburg on a Wednesday; it's not like there are going to be a bunch of people clamoring for rental clubs.  Either way, I'm still playing 36 at a minimum.

Most places will say that but will charge you only for 18 even if you play 36.  That being said if it is possible it is always nice to play with your own.  I have had some bad sets with torn grips and just junk clubs before.
