I am the Worst short game player in the history of golf.  I can putt great.  I hit the driver well.  Iron game is decent.  Put me around a green and I s*** my pants.  I either thin them across the green or flub or double hit or whatever... Turrible.

Many years ago I used to Phil Hinge and Hold it up to 50 yards - Ball in the back of stance, lob wedge and swing.  Was simple.

Then I got obsessed with hitting it higher, Having the Shaft Vertical, Using the Bounce,......
I've sucked for years.

Last practice session and last round I said F it - Im going to hinge and hold.   It was glorious.   Not one flubbb or skull and actually came up and down a few times.

I went away from it because everything I read said when you put it too far back you can dig if you dont use the bounce so I went away from it.

Hinge and hold simplify things for me. I use the bigger version for my full swing and do the same with my driver as well. It helps me fully extend my swing through impact.

Yes you are using your bounce in general how much it depends on how much you open up.

Hinge and Hold is another term that will get most guys pulling the handle.

That is pretty much what it feels like.  Effective thought

If one method allows you to consistently strike the ball solid with better distance control and accuracy,.....it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks

I think Phil and his method have been very misunderstood. There was a WRX feature article on this recently showing it as an exaggerated handle drag and saying that Phil can do it consistently because he plays a lot.

If you look at highlight films of majors between 2005 and 2010 his method is far more advanced than the stubby leading edge strikes that people attribute to it. Do you really think on the firm fasts greens they play on you could use a method that has the ball come in hot and skiddy.

If you hinge on the backswing and then ask yourself how from there you can use the bounce you might come close to his method in my opinion. He appears to have more of a vertical tilt than a turn coming into the ball and straightens his arms into the strike and followthrough. Both of these get the shaft back to vertical and expose bounce but may introduce bad habits to the long game.
