Hey gang, with the mallet craze going on I thought I would jump on board. I always liked the Nome shape but wanted something with some toe hang like a spider or 7s. I saw Golfworks has putter hosel adaptors to convert a double/single bend into a slant neck. I went with the 2.5 option to give it the most toe hang. With them being on back order i decided to send the putter to Continental Golf for a rehab on finish. I bought the putter on ebay and was hoping the finish would be in better shape but it gave me the opportunity to work with Continental Golf and they were great. I had them refinish it to the original black finish, paint the white alignment bar black and leave the TR grooves unpainted. I'm very happy with the finish product. Here are some before and after pics.

Now i'm still waiting on the hosel and adaptor and new shaft which will be a matte black FST putter shaft. Also planning on using a GripMaster Kangaroo leather grip. I will post the finish product when its done and hopefully be able to show how much toe hang the new hosel adaptor added. Look forward for more info and pics to come, enjoy and feel free to ask me any questions. Thanks.

UPDATE 10-16

Alright guys, the adaptor and shaft arrived this week and was able to get this beaut put together. Now i've put together thousands of clubs and this was one of the most tricky to get right. Before i got started I weighted the head and adaptor so i knew the total weight of the head. I knew the Nome TR was a 355 gram head and the hosel adaptor was listed at 14 grams. the 370 gram mark is what I hoped everything would work out to and it was right on the money.

New Nome #6.JPG New Nome #7.JPG

My first step was to prep the adaptor so it would fit into the Nome. Took more then a normal shaft prep to get it fit into the hosel of the Nome. After some dry fittings I couldn't get it to fit flush in the Nome. Tried some different grinding and still couldn't get. So I decided to give it a shot and see how it turned out. Well that didn't work at all. The shaft lean put my heads way ahead of the ball. So I pulled the adaptor out and tried again. I ended up taking a drill bit against the side of the hosel in the Nome where it wasn't sitting flush and slowly shaved off enough until it work. Well i'm glad I didn't settle because it turned out great.

New Nome #9.JPG New Nome #10.JPG New Nome #11.JPG New Nome #12.JPG

I took it over and rolled it and felt great. Only thing was it looked a little upright and i noticed the ball was hoping a bit off impact. Threw it in my putter machine and the loft was 6* and lie was 71*. Adjusted it to 69* lie and 3* of loft. Rolled it again and the setup and roll was perfect. Only thing that is not complete is the grip. I ordered a Gripmaster Cabretta Lether Tour black grip to finish it off. For now I throw on a Pingman Gray cord to hold me over. Final Specs are 33.5" Length, 69* Lie angle, 3* of Loft.

I did take a before pic of the face angle to compare against the final build. i also included the new Tyne H and a spider black for comparison for everyone.

I will finish this thread with pcis of the grip once I get it install. I hope everyone enjoys this and I will continue and answer questions. Thanks.

Really interested in how the shaft adapter works out. I have always wanted to try one but haven't found the right project yet and I wasn't even aware Golfworks carried them now! It should look awesome with the black shaft.

I'm interested as well how the adaptor will work in the head. Most mallets have will a male piece adaptor coming out of the head and shaft goes over that. I saw that adaptors just came back in stock so im hoping I get them by end of the week.

The problem I think you might run into is the angle of the bore hole on that Nome. I wanted to turn my Nome into a knucklehead (plumbers neck), but the angled bore hole was an issue (not 90 degrees to the top of the putter). Let me know if you get past this somehow, as I would definitely copy you!

Looks great!  What is that matte black finish called at Continental?  Thinking of having one of my #7's changed to that.

Yes It was a bit of the problem, I just slowly drilled against the side of the hosel where the adaptor wasn't sitting flush. Took some work and patent but it work out great.

Hey, I just asked for there Matte black finish. What they use might vary depending on the type of steel the putter is made of.

Just curious, did you notice any change to the head weight feel / balance?    Part of me would love to try this but one of my problems with the Nome is that I already think the head weight is a bit too heavy.  14-16 gm to replace the bent shaft seems like it would make that aspect a bit worse (for me).

Stuart,

I prefer a heavy feel I liked the added 14 grams of weight. The shaft was also 127grams so I think that helped balanced out the weight a bit. I'm gonna try to get it out on a real putting green and see how it compares to my Redwood Tr
