I just picked up a Game Golf Live that I plan to use for this purpose. Reviews seemed better for it than the original and I like the fact that I don't have to keep the phone app going the whole time since the GPS is in the belt device. It says start the app, pick the course, tee, etc and you don't need the phone after that. Just have to get used to tapping the butt of the club on the belt device. Wish I had some other input, but I just got it last week. It was just shy of $100 on the Bay.

It depends on what you want.

If you want the super high end best of the best, everything I hear about the decade app is the way to go.

If you want something really cheap there are a some people who have free excel sheets.  But do you feel comfortable downloading a random person's excel sheet from the internet?

The middle of the road options are game golf, arcos, and shot by shot.  Each having something a little different than the other.

I use game golf.  There are some things I wish they would change but overall it isn't bad and it's a 1 time cost with no monthly/annual fees, which is what made me the most interested in it.

I use Golfpad GPS and a pebble watch.  It gives me basic strokes gained information and the app was a one time $10 purchase.  It's a good cheap way to introduce stat tracking into your game.

Golfpad also has a Game Golf style tag system for only $79 (cheaper than Game Golf).
