Noticeable improvement in the quality of the field now this is a Rolex Series tournament. Should be a good event.

The Rolex Series returns this week as many of the European Tour’s biggest stars gather at Golf Club Milano for the Italian Open, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Alex Noren, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm and Rafa Cabrera Bello by adding their name to the list of winners of the European Tour’s elite series of tournaments. Here is the lowdown.

Would like Jamie Donaldson to have a good week, he's had a really tough 18 months or so.

Interesting to see the bookmakers odds for this event. I appreciate Jon Rahm is the highest ranked player in the field but a little surprised to see him as such a big favourite.

Best prices available:

Jon Rahm 8.00
Francesco Molinari 17.00
Tyrrell Hatton, Sergio Garcia 19.00
Matthew Fitzpatrick 21.00

Also notable that Rory is in Milano, but won't play the Italian Open? Strange timing of vacation or meeting important people?

Dunne and Rahm, the only hopes for any RC glory in years to come seemingly. I will have my eyes on them in Milano. Scandinavian Alex has not done much damage since Wentworth, maybe now? Very poor central scandinavian year on the tours. Maybe Golf is going the tennis way...

Aphibarnrat is the early leader, -5 thru 10. The rest of the pack is at -3 including Francesco Molinari..

Not quite true. Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrell Hatton, Thomas Pieters are all very solid young European players coming through. That said, they are clearly not of the caliber of most of the US young guns and I fear that Europe is heading for a long desolate period in the RC, similar to that suffered by the US in recent times.

Yep good result, but missed the cut in the individual tournament which as far as I can tell means no individual prize money/points

Caught the end part of the Garcia / Fleetwood / Rahm grouping today. Watching it served to reinforce what a drama queen Rahm is.

I forsee a future Ryder Cup pairing between Rahm and Tyrell Hatton. They can whine and complain their opponents into submission.

Hopefully in foursomes, so they'd only have one ball in play. If Hatton tails off, maybe Sullivan could be brought into the fold. Although he's more an equal-opportunity natterer, than a whingebag.

Sullivan made the last team, though he hasn't done much since. He's not a whinger though, that's for sure. He actually seems to be a very funny guy and I imagine would be pretty good to have around for team morale (see the vlog he did with Mark Crossfield). Rahm on the other hand seems like he could suck all the energy out of the room, especially if he felt aggrieved about something.

Here's Sullivan in action recently:

No official ET money but Donaldson won $50k for the Pro-Am win. :)

https://alfreddunhil...ts-team-record/

Donaldson pocketed a cheque for $50,000 US dollars and revealed that he had nine birdies and an 18th hole eagle on his card.

I played that course tons of times, should be a good tournament!

Also, I played it a lot during Autumn and lost tons of balls under the tree leaves :D

Last four holes long or longish par 4's. Everyone hits green, few makes birdies, no risk/reward.  It was really better when 16th was par-5. Same hole but the "mentality of the hole" was somewhat different. Then, you could lay up.

The meanies have invaded the euro tour too, now it was a horrible day. Sergio, say no more...

Donaldson was in the top 50 of the world rankings until I believe a wrist injury has hurt his form the last 2 years.

Good to see him play well in Italy.

Molinari started playing well when he knew he was not going to win...
