Maybe TaylorMade blew all their money on Tiger and Rory this year and they needed to let one big name go?

I'm a big adidas fan for all sports related clothing...probably has something to do with me growing up in Europe (Germany) in the 70s...but Sergio's apparel makes him look like a preschooler...the matching hat/pants/shoes has got to go.  DJ does it right (also has the physique).

Sergio's profile doesn't really fit Callaway, which means exactly nothing, just saying. I think his profile fits better with Mizuno or Titleist. Tremendous ball striker, accurate driver who is grown to be more reserved and mature.

I certainly wouldn't sign him into a putter deal.

Seems Callaway or PXG would be the obvious choices.

Considering his play since the Masters PXG might fit him well.

Maybe he went to the new owners of TM and said he wanted to re-negotiate his contract for more money since he won a major this year and they have been dishing out cash to everyone else and their mom to get them on staff.
Maybe they told him to pound sand, and he threw an epic Sergio fit, made some disparaging remarks about the company eating chicken or let them know he wasn't happy with the conditions on the range at the kingdom...and they just said you know what, there's the door amigo

Honestly if I was a manufacturer I would be skeptical of how much in extra sales a Sergio endorsement would bring for me. There has to be some ROI or why would I care or bother? Bottom line to me is that TM must have decided the ROI just wasn't there anymore to offer him enough to stay with them.

Alot more than Sergio... food for thought...

Twitter
Rory: 3.18 million followers
Sergio:  892K followers

Instagram
Rory:  1.4 million followers
Sergio:  265K followers

In today's society, that's the needle.  Here's a little more.

Endorsements:
Rory:  $34 million (approx)
Sergio:  $10 million (approx)

That discrepancy is the needle.  No question.  For what it's worth, I follow both on instagram and while I'm not really very active on that app, both are cool and both will interact with you.

As much as I hate this, it's pretty much true. I have no comment on the players in discussion but, social media really is everything these days. There is definitely a generational gap in the acceptance/understanding of it all but, these oems need to sell more clubs to people under 40. This is very relevant information.

I have no doubt. He was always Adidas's baby and TM just came along with that. I also think it would have been part of the news. With TM under new ownership they need to "trim some fat". I mean that with no disrespect to Sergio, love the guy. But, moving forward under new owndership, they need to spend less on tour to start evening out their books I would think.

I don't think there is any coincidence that this announcement came just a few days after Adidas announced it had completed its separation from TM.

Quote

ADIDAS COMPLETES DIVESTITURE OF TAYLORMADE, ADAMS GOLF AND ASHWORTH
adidas announced today that effective October 2nd it has formally completed the previously announced divestiture of its TaylorMade, Adams Golf and Ashworth golf brands to a newly formed affiliate of KPS Capital Partners, LP.

With TM selling to the private equity company for ~$425M, it's likely the new owners are evaluating their equipment deals with a lot more scrutiny now that there's no intangible value from brand synergies (TM + adidas).

While Sergio is OWGR #11 and fresh off a Masters victory, he's no spring chicken (37) and doesn't appear to move the needle as much as DJ and Rory.

Well then why they sign TW?  Guess Id rather have someone who "moves the needle" with equipment that actually plays.

Frankly I think TM will be trimming a lot of fat their wood sales are down and dont see how they can afford to pay all these players.  Should mostly be "pay for performance" except top players.

Rory moves a needle? Which one?

Alot more than Sergio... food for thought...

Twitter
Rory: 3.18 million followers
Sergio:  892K followers

Instagram
Rory:  1.4 million followers
Sergio:  265K followers

In today's society, that's the needle.  Here's a little more.

Endorsements:
Rory:  $34 million (approx)
Sergio:  $10 million (approx)

That discrepancy is the needle.  No question.  For what it's worth, I follow both on instagram and while I'm not really very active on that app, both are cool and both will interact with you.

I honestly did not even consider this at all. I should have, though. Thanks for posting. Interesting stuff.
