I didn't click the link but I imagine it's Matt Ginella telling us how great something is meanwhile he is getting a ton of free trips/stuff to say so.

On a side note, is it me or is there anything he won't use to promote whatever he is signing up for now? Used to just be him then started using his wife and now his kid. Just not My style I guess

Yeah it's funny, Pinehurst has a media week where all of these people can come play for free and tell us how nice it is. Ginella works for GC of which Pinehurst is a major sponsor of; there is no way he would be truthful and say it's too expensive. He also wouldn't say it because the guy hasn't paid for a round of golf in the last 10 years.

I'm sure the Cradle is awesome, but there is no short course in the world outside of Augusta's that I'd pay $50 for. I could play 9 holes at Dormie for a few extra bucks. It just seems illogical to me to charge someone $500 to play #2 then ask them to fork over another $50 for 30 minutes on this short course.

Yes it's $50 (which is admittedly steep), but replays are free and guests are welcome to play more than one round a day. Considering it's only 9 holes and you could just replay it over and over, I'd say that's not a bad deal. As someone who lives within a couple hours of the resort, I'm planning on making the drive down at some point this fall and spend the day playing it.

The Preserve is $75 in low season and only goes higher. I thought that was steep but after playing it I wouldn't hesitate to pay again as it is plain and simple just "FUN".

If its free replays $50 is pretty good, they just need to make sure that they have a coolers of beers ready for the groups.

Do they do some of the same things as The Preserve? Like allowing 6 or 8 to go out together?

Yes.

I was just there this past weekend, and had a chance to play The Cradle in the afternoon one day.

Would I pay $50 (even with the free replays) to do something like that at home?  No.  You've got to keep where you are in mind, though.  In comparison to the money you're spending on everything else at Pinehurst, $50 for as many loops as you can get in really isn't outrageous.

The holes are almost all pitch and putt length, but it was still an enjoyable way to finish a day of golf.  We saw a group playing as an 8-some, a group playing music on a bluetooth speaker, and even witnessed a hole-in-one from a group behind us.

$50 is so over priced it's scary.  Short course, less maintenance, less costs, more profit for Pinehurst.  So much for shorter courses will save money

My first thought was along the lines of “congrats on the price gouging “ also. But Pinehurst, Bandon, Cabot, Streamsong, etc aren’t around to support the growth of the game or to make it available to everyone . They are the reward for one’s devotion to the game. To have the desire to stay on site for a week, to have the means and drive in your chosen profession to afford it, to have become part of a group of friends that also wants the golf induced coma after 5 days/8rounds plus countless loops on the short course is the end game of all the silly, mismanaged and incorrectly applied initiatives that we endure on behalf of “growing the game”.   Course managers, parents that want free summer babysitting, lazy head pros and cheap bastards looking to justify using an expired coupon or guilt a course into not charging for a beginners all hide behind a cry of “grow the game”.  Very few of these initiatives work or see commitment from the administrators or the consumers to work. So good for Pinehurst. Reward the people who love golf so much they devote an entire vacation to it. $50 is nothing at this destination, so I now agree with the posters above - sounds fun and is well worth it. I don’t need some 17 handicap chop over analyzing a 48 yard pitch because he dropped $50 on a chipping course. There are loads of places where range balls are $7 a pail and a season pass on the exec is $175. Go there and let us pay $50 for a fun, beer filled jaunt with our buddies and our wedges.

Whew, that was more writing than I had in mind.

i actually thought it was going to be free if you were staying/playing at the resort. 50 bucks seems like a lot to me after dropping all that money on a trip there.

It's worth mentioning that all the proceeds from the Preserve at Bandon go to the Wild Rivers Coast Alliance.  It's one part of the many ways that the resort pays back into the community.

x2 Spud, I was thinking the same thing about The Preserve, Bandon makes no profit off that course.
