I forgot my Clic yesterday, so I dumped some clubs out of the bag so I could carry.  When I go with 7, I usually take Driver-4-6-8-PW-56-Putter.  I decided to mix it up yesterday and take the odd irons, and keep 8 clubs in.  I had Driver-Hybrid-5-7-9-52-58-Putter.  I've never played a partial set round where I didn't have the club I wanted for as many approaches as I did yesterday.  I swear, it was every damn hole I needed one of the even irons.  Sad!

Played yesterday with the 8/9/wedges and if there was a tee box longer than 150 (its a par 3 course) I just dropped in the fairway.

It was fun - good winter practice and I liked having a super light bag.

Had the day off and got bored around lunchtime so I decided to head out to the range.  Get down there and the course is pretty empty so I decide to play 9.

I haven't swung a club in about a month and it showed.  Hit a few range balls to get loosened up.  First hole (Longest nine at Meadows Farm), push the drive but in a good spot with a clear look at the green.  Rangefinder says 181 yds to the pin.  Hit 6 iron, lands about 4 feet right of the pin (which is in the back) and takes a big bounce past the green.  Ball was just over the crest of a little mound.  Little chip that hits the fringe and rolls in for a birdie.  No fairway hit, no GIR, birdie.  F yeah!

It only went down hill from there.

I say that but it was a fairly typical round for me.  I parred a couple of holes, had some bogeys because I missed greens, and had a couple of blow ups.  I could not control my driver today...lots of pushes and sometimes some push slices.  That lead to a lot of dropped shots.  Played with the 716 T-MBs (shafted them with PX LZ) and hit them pretty well.  I didn't hit a bunch of GIRs but I was hitting them straight so I should probably pay more attention to my alignment.  Distance is a little shorter than the 565s but I think the 565s have some stronger lofts.  It was just 9 holes so tough to say if I'll keep them but I hit them well enough to want to hang on to them and try them out some more.

Putting was better than usual, at least on those 3-6 footers that I tend to screw up.  Gotta thank Kenty for a couple of tips he gave me at the TurKey.  One, he said I tended to set up with the putter closed.  Second, he told me to let my right hand control the speed.  Been working on that feeling in the basement and it helped today.  Tough to get a feel for speed today since the greens were slow but those two tips I think really helped with making those 3-6 footers, which I made three of four today (only missed one that I faced).  So thanks Kent!

$179 covers greens fees.

Walkers pay $11.

Well, what's the $11 for? Shoe rental?

The asterisk explains it all City. It's the walking fee. Duh.

Seems the obvious workaround is to go to your local EagleGolfBoard dealer and pick one up. There doesn't seem to be a fee to surf the course.

I love the casual golfer part. There is zero restriction on amount of times you can play and walkers are usually the least casual. Iím assuming they needed an influx of cash flow for the new year. Sucks to know that the course will probably be homes in the next 5 years, but Iíll play the crap out of it until then. It is also very walkable. Flat / rolling for the most part and there are a bunch of crossovers or w/e where you can hit a tee ball and carry 2-3 clubs to finish out, tee off, then walk right back past your cart.

Nice. Interesting charging the $11 to walk per round. I like it. Doesn't allow them to just empty the budget from the jump. Brings in a slow stream of revenue throughout. And a low up-front buy-in. I dig it.

I'm looking at a membership this year. And walking most rounds. At my price compared to theirs, I could play 75 rounds to meet my price. Solid offer.

did not play yesterday. I was standing around dog park thinking "if the wind wasn't blowing I could play". But it was.

I'm coming down with something I think.

It's weird, I've woken up like the last 5 days at 75% but a couple hours later, I feel 100Č. I went to yoga today after feeling like crud.

Might be heading to Maine before next weekend so I don't know if I'll be playing then, either.

Went to TopGolf yesterday with Andy and another buddy. Cold as crap! Wind was blowing in, heaters felt like they werenít on. Got to hit my new 60* so happy about that. Otherwise first time swinging in two months and the shots reflected that.

There was definitely something going around. The week after the wedding I was exhausted, then a week after that I got a rough head cold/body ache thing. Still trying to kick the cough. Have been out of the apartment for a total of 15 minutes so far this weekend.

50s next weekend though. Recovering for that.

Domes, good timing on the Hawaii trip.  An ICBM warning would probably ruin the newlywed mood a tad.

I played nine holes today. It was cold. Imagine that.

Wasn't so frozen that you couldn't stop a shot but definitely still some guess work. Hit six greens and every putt gave the hole a scare. None went in. Wasn't swinging nearly as well as I was a couple weeks back

Why do courses have frost delays citing causing damage to the grass but allow people to play when it is completely frozen/below freezing? Is it the thawing when the grass is senstitive to damage?

I have no idea why, but I was told if the roots aren't frozen but the blades are, that can damage the grass. If everything is frozen it won't damage the grass.

Again, I have no idea why.

Take a blade of grass and let a thin layer of ice form on it. If you tried to bend that blade of grass it'd snap.

Not if you put the blade in a block of ice nothing could happen.

When you think about a green, the difference between frost and frozen is those two.

Courses shouldn't be open. At one point I heard the crunch crunch of me walking on the kinda frozen but not truly frozen grass. You could see my foot steps as I "broke" the grass

I played at fairway hills not turf

freezing is different than frost too, i think.

Frost indicates there's moisture in the air and it has frozen on the grass blades. The frost itself is the problem.

When it's freezing out, you can have a frozen blade of grass, but that doesn't have the same effect as frost. If the air is dry, there's not external moisture frozen on the grass blade.

Or something like that.

Like a great man once said, "I don't know. I'm not a taxidermist."
