I don't know any details, but they've still got 27 holes of golf.  I guess they brought in enough members, and did some other things to make the finances work.

It's a classic rags to riches tale. Young Kent, afloat on his dinghy, vowing to one day be accepted by the hoity-toity that scorned him.

Growing up in Dundalk, Kent Mosmiller knew about Sparrows Point Country Club. He spent summers on little boats along Bear Creek where he could check out the 40-foot cabin cruisers at the club marina and, beyond that, the green expanse of the golf course. It wasn't for him or his family.

The club was an enclave for what he called "white hats" at Bethlehem Steel, which established the club as a benefit for supervisors in the 1920s. Neither Mosmiller nor his parents ever worked for the company. "These were all the hoity-toity people who belonged here," Mosmiller said.

Break ground this time next year or early 2018. Going to 18 holes --- 316 houses none on the new course layout. 7 years of very hard work to make this happen.

For anyone that travels a lot - for work or otherwise - I had a chance to register for the CLEAR lanes last week through a trial offer and check them out. Does not let you skip the bag scanner/metal detector but you skip any line thats there. If you have PreCheck, you skip that line and go right to the PreCheck scanners - if not you go right to the front of the other line. Took a few minutes to sign up at the airport, they take an eye scan and fingerprint scan. But the machines themselves when you check in take 3-5 seconds. The machine scans your boarding pass and two fingerprints - and thats it. No need to show ID, theoretically I guess you could travel without any ID at all.

Pretty cool stuff/interesting tech. Probably not worth it if you only travel once a year but if you travel a lot IMO it might be worth the cost ($99/yr with a Delta SkyMiles #, $50 to add a spouse/family member). The PreCheck line in Vegas probably had 20+ people in it so it maybe saved me 10-15 minutes on that end.

I think I'm going to toss both Fuji shafts I have on the BST tomorrow - ATMOS Tour Spec Blue 6s, and Speeder Pro XLR8 63s.  They both have Callaway tips, but the one on the Speeder twisted loose.  If any superfriends are interested before I list them, let me know.

I just got precheck actually.  In Chicago now and took me no time to get through security and National. My wife travels a ton and had precheck back when it was an invite only thing.  Now she complains that any rando paying $85 is in the line.

18 total holes. There will be a new practice range that will be state of the art. Pro will have the top end for lessons and there will be some enclosures for winter time. The bottom end will be for 50 players with grass areas and mats for the winter. It will be 340 yds. long and slightly uphill(10%). New practice putting green & bunkers which will be partly the existing inside 9th green. We will have returning 9's. The following holes will be new or use part of existing holes; #1 & #2 new,#3 will be existing #5, #9, #10,#14, #15 #16 and #17 will be new. #18 will be the same but different tee box's making it longer and a different angle. No longer able to short cut to the left of the trees, but the water is still in play. #15, #16 and #17 will bring water into play. #16 will 195 yds across mostly water as the existing green will be moved down to the left and over the existing hill with the water just to the left & front of the green. #15 becomes a par 4 playing uphill at about 465 from the existing tee are all the way back to the water in the valley of the existing 16th fairway. #17 become a very slight dogleg right at about 340 with existing green and the water across the right front bring it into play. The new #1 hole really has my interest. Should be a great risk reward hole that is drivable or you can just crap the bed or play safe like me. Course will be a little over 7,100 yds(tips) when complete with Latitude 36 fairways.

Lots of work getting this done and please don't say things like kickbacks. Worked long and hard to get this so future members have a better place to play. That is my reward.

That's some pretty serious renovation!  Are they going to shut the course down completely for a while to do the bulk of the work?

Highlights of the Kent article. . .

Kent saying "white hats".

Kent saying "hoity toity".

Kent saying "druthers".

The reporter saying golfers were "flushed from and afternoon round", not "flush from". (if I'm mistaken on the usage, so be it. But, I thought you could be "flushed" or "flush from the effort", but not "flushed from".)

A dude named Glomp. Didn't he get flushed from Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with his niece?

Kent feeling less "sanguine" about the situation. "Mr. Mosmiller, would you say you're feeling more sanguine or less sanguine about the situation?"

"Oh, less sanguine. Definitely less sanguine."

Kent referring to "Pasadena" as "Dundalk South". Dying. When I use to bowl in Glen Burnie, I bowled with John and Darlene from Pasadena. My neighbor calls those people "Waterbillies".

There are no comments on the article. Believe me, for the Baltimore Sun, this is a good thing.

Johnny Cash. . .

I've been washed down the sink of your conscience
In the theater of your love I lost my part
And now you say you've got me out of your conscience
I've been flushed from the bathroom of your heart

Kent -- what's getting blown up? Any ideas? I'd start with the maintenance path across 1. I'd also lose 16 & 17, but then I don't know how you'd get to 18.

(edit : I see you answered a lot of that already).

Not sure what "modernize " means, but there will be new double row irrigation and bunkers. The bunkers will not have collars per say and the fairway will run right up to the bunker for asthenic purposes. Yes there will be tree removal but not a lot, but a number of fairways will be wider.

I think PQ is just saying there's been a modern move towards fewer trees (e.g. Oakmont).

Trees aren't fun for anybody and generally not good for conditions.

And Sparrows has too many.

Anyway, sounds exciting Kent. . .I'm not a member at Sparrows, but I hope everyone appreciates the work you've obviously put in for this.

You deserve to kick back with a brewski or two when this is all done.

"Trees aren't fun for anybody"  This is the bomb and gouge mindset. Put as many trees as possible so that group sh!ts there pants.

Kent referring to "Pasadena" as "Dundalk South". Dying. When I use to bowl in Glen Burnie, I bowled with John and Darlene from Pasadena. My neighbor calls those people "Waterbillies".

I believe that playing Compass in the Cappy Cup this year resulted in my first ever pass thru Pasadena somehow. And gotta say, it was exactly how I envisioned it. Did not disappoint.
