I'll start by saying that I love my Garmin G8 GPS and have no plans of getting rid of it on the course.  But I decided to get a Bushnell V4 for the driving range. It is really helping my distance control.  No longer do I have to wonder if the yardage signs are incorrect or if I'm hitting my irons longer/shorter than usual.

Does the range have the same balls you use?

They do not.  But my yardages are consistent from range to course.

Our ranges use floaters.  Have been told the are 10% to 20% shorter than regular balls.  So just work on hitting them solid

I use a rangefinder at the range and it helps me also. I would say the range balls are about 10 yards shorter on my irons than my CS balls, and about 15-20 yards shorter with my 3 wood and driver ... BUT using the laser has really helped my game.

There is never any need to wonder if range yardage signs are wrong, since they are wrong 99% of the time.

Vendor on WRX makes a terrific rangefinder. Not just for the range, take it on the course.

I find that range balls don't seem to fly as far and wouldn't bother measuring

I can't tell exactly where my ball lands or runs out to on a range.  Range yardage signs are only good as aiming points.

I use the elapsed yardage feature on my GPS while on the course. Easy to measure the carry and total yardages from tee or fairway to ball mark and to the ball.
