I just found out about Shotscope (www.shotscope.com), and I wanted to share:

Note that their website is really vague on what V2 adds over V1, which is why I am posting this.

Here is a Golfwrx article that tells a (very little) bit about it:  http://www.golfwrx.com/466494/shot-scope-v2-golf-watch-offers-gps-distances-and-stats/

The shotscope V1 (version 1) is like GameGolf except:

1) You wear it on your lead wrist (like a watch, except with no readout except some status LEDs).

2) There is no tapping to register your club.  Instead, the device automatically senses which club you are holding in your hand.

3) You click one of several buttons when you are at the pin (i.e. retrieving your ball from the hole), which tells the device (a) the number of putts for this hole and (b) the exact pin location on the green.

According to the website, Shotscope V2 comes out in mid-October for $250 (or pre-order for $210).  It adds "gps watch" functionality, which gives F/C/B distances to the green--and the time of day.  (Note that the Golfwrx article states that distances to hazards will be added "later this year" as a software update.)

Also, if you have a V1, you can upgrade to a V2 for $110 and still keep your old unit.

Note that V2 does NOT give your distance of the last shot.  Per an email from their support:

"Unfortunately we can't show a 'live' distance that your shot went, we spoke to the governing bodies about this and they had issues with the system being conforming if we did it.

"The issue is because our system carries much higher performance data capability, so the governing bodies don't want us to show shot distance during the round. We could show which club and that shot distance, whereas every GPS system will just show a shot distance, this is also based on how far you have walked and I would imagine requires manual input."

Also note that V2 does NOT come preloaded with all of the courses in the world.  Here is the answer from support:

"V2 does not come pre-loaded with courses and courses must be added prior to you playing the course. This is due to the quality of mapping data provided by Shot Scope, courses are regularly updated and therefore the download requirement ensures that you always have the most up to date information."

Their website says that that V2 has three different modes, but it doesn't give any details.  Here is another excerpt from a support email:

"The three modes are for different playing conditions. GPS + Track gives you all of your distances to the front, middle and back of the green as well as tracking your performance. This makes this mode perfect for when you are playing stroke play.  GPS mode gives you your distances but does not track your performance. This mode suits playing in match play or stableford events when you are potentially not completing every hole in the round. Pro mode tracks your performance but doesn't give any live distances. This is for top amateur and pro events when live distances are illegal."

I think that the lack of pre-loaded courses plus the lack of a shot distance feature makes this a lot less interesting for me.  Otherwise, it still looks like a vast improvement over GameGolf---albeit at a higher price.

Okay, thanks.  I did a search for "Shotscope" and found zero hits--which is why I created a new thread.

Hey just wanted to say you asked some great questions and got some answers nobody else was asking. The lack of a shot distance feature is inexcusable, they could easily bundle it into one of the non conforming modes, their reasoning makes no sense at all. With GG Live at least I can look back after I hit my second shot to see how far I drove it, makes their reasoning sound even more confusing.
