First time ever.....  Was a frustrating round to say the least and this was the icing on the cake.  11th hole after a lousy drive that hit a thin branch and went backwards into the woods.

Really few options, but chose the hero shot and thusly rewarded!!!!!

Add to that 3-putts and ground balls, the golf gods got even for me playing on a Wednesday midday.....

Happened to you?

No, but I'd take revenge on the tree by showing it pictures of redwoods and telling it how inferior it is as a tree.

If I'm playing a casual round, I never put my club in damage danger, ever. If a shot calls for a broken club, it'll be in a tournament and after I decide to not take a drop for an unplayable.

And nothing wrong with some golf on humpday yo!!

Happened last week.  Snapped my wedge after duffing 3 chips in a row on an easy par 5 when i was 50 yards from the green in 2.  Was half drunk...so that didn't help lol

Been there and done that.  Probably wouldn't do it again though.  Golf can be frustrating and cause knee jerk reactions.

Breaking clubs costs money I could be using on the 19th hole. Breaking clubs... bad.

Been plenty frustrated but haven't broken anything yet. I tend to do the quick bang the club head on the ground move and then try to forget it and on. My lies might be a little upright at this point but no permanent damage.

Certainly can understand how it happens though.

I didn't think I was making a real dangerous swing (just a hero shot), otherwise I would have moved it.

I left it at the proshop to fix (figure I'll have a credit to use from Men's league).

Still pissed about the round too and need to get out on Saturday to exact some revenge.....

I've broken many....but, I played by the rules, and for a bit of coin, so...the "hero" shot was never that...but, you can't practice hitting next to a tree on the range.

It also taught me how to reshaft (properly) clubs...a valuable lesson!

Did the exact same thing earlier this year. Also a 7 iron.
I took a few practice swings as I knew it'd be tight, but when I moved up a couple of inches to play the actual shot the tree that wasn't in play on my follow through on the practice swings all of a sudden was in play and I wrapped the 7i around it pretty good.
Playing partner congratulated me on a nice out. I responded with a dejected "yeah, thanks" and showed him my folded-in-half club.
Of course the very next hole was a 170 yard par 3 so I had to try to choke down on a 6. Didn't go so hot.

Still...our pro shop got it fixed for me in a couple of days for $60 or so (Cdn) so it wasn't too bad.

Needless to say I'm a lot more cautious when playing out of the trees now.

Did this in a tournament when I was in high school.  Ball up against a tree but could get a good swing on it and was better than a left handed punch.  Wrapped it around the tree and bent the shaft to unplayable but worth the risk. Was late in the round and a 3 iron. Only 1 hole left that I might have used it on.

Figured $40/$60 and I have 2-3 clubs in garage I could replace it with, but rather keep the set intact.

Lesson learned.....

Have not actually snapped a club yet, but damaged one the other day.  Hit my AW out of the rough and must have hit a rock.  Put a decent ding on the bottom.  I was a little perturbed.  :fie:

Mine are just stock AP1 714s with the XP95 shaft. I did look on fleabay for prices on a single 7 iron, but they were all over $100, so to just stick a new identical shaft in was a no brainer.
Grip doesn't match the rest of the clubs, but whatever, they're due to be re-gripped anyway.
Also, yes. I'm FAR more cautious when hitting out of the trees now. Fortunately, my driver seems to have straightened itself out, so I haven't had to deal with trees too much lately.

Guess I read the OP too quick, didn't realize he meant while playing a shot.

No irons on trees, broke a couple drivers on some horrible chunk shots though.

I just carry a hickory shafted putter around and say " this could be you".  Haven't broken a club in 20 years...

I haven't but I saw a friend of a friend do it on the first hole I played with him. He hit his drive left, it came to rest near a "tree". He had a new-ish set of irons that he cared about, but the "tree" was the most pathetic little sapling. I think he had no worry whatsoever about damaging his club in the follow-through, but that little trunk snapped his shaft in half with ease. The whole foursome was surprised.

It's amazing how easily a club snaps, knowing this from experience.
