How much do you use your phone on the course? Where do you keep it? Do you find it a distraction at times? Have you ever been distracted by other players phone usage?

Was thinking about this in another thread and today one of the guys I was playing with had his phone start vibrating in the cart cup holder while he was hitting and he completely duffed the shot. Have also seen guys who can't seem to get off the phone, even when it is their turn to hit.

Sometimes I will turn my phone off completely, but lately have been leaving it in my bag on silence/no vibration and not checking it until the end of the round.

I play a lot of golf during work hours with coworkers or clients, so it comes with the territory that I have to keep my phone on.

On vibrate though, and in my pocket. That way an email, text, or call doesn't rattle half the cart.

I frequently play with a guy who always has his on loud, and always has it connected to a Bluetooth speaker playing music. So you'll be on the tee box and suddenly his Metallica becomes the Super Mario Bros theme song blaring in your ear. It's really enjoyable.

I don't see any issue with keeping it on you and on vibrate, and checking it as needed. So long as you aren't delaying your own shot, distracting others, or failing to see where your playing partners shot went because you were staring at your phone.

I work in sales so mine is constantly ringing and getting emails. I leave it on vibrate on the seat so it is silent for anyone/me hitting. I only answer if it's an emergency but may reply to some emails while waiting to hit on the tee box etc. I can't stand waiting on people who are talking on the phone while playing.

I leave the ringer on (though I turn the volume down to about 1/4) and check my phone constantly. I work a job where I need to be available 24/7 so I have no shame about it. If jackasses can play golf with wireless speakers blasting crappy music I think I'm OK leaving the ringer on to make sure I don't miss an important call.

I used to leave it in my car during the round, but have come to find it handy to have during the round to kill time with on the internet while waiting for groups ahead, especially playing as a single or in a twosome behind a pile of foursomes or an otherwise slow round.

My golf GPS is on my phone, so it's always in my pocket on vibrate.  I normally just check my phone on Par 3's and approach shots.  If we are waiting, and it is during business hours, I will check my work email.

My phone is my golf GPS as well and it actually makes me play faster. My phone is on silent and since I'm always checking it for distances, I can always respond to a call or text. I only call back if it's an urgent matter. If I do have to make a call, I do in a manner of not being a distraction to anyone else.

I only grab my phone late in the round when the mental question comes up, "Where's my celly yo? Did I leave it on the truck?"

I've got zero issue with phones. Unless I have to wait on you to hit a shot because you're on the phone. Mute that thing, hit your shot, un mute it, and lets roll yo!

I also like to blame bad wedge play on loud music and phones ringing so there's that. It's obviously not me duh.

Since I'm playing during business hours I need to be somewhat available. I leave it in the cubby hole,of the cart where it can't be heard if it vibrates. I get the call, text, or email notification on my watch if it goes off. It's rare when I can go an entire round without getting called, but do everything possible to let it affect anyone else.

I have to admit, sometimes I get a bit envious of the guys who don't have to have it with them. But for me, if I can't be available, I can't play.

On silent in the golf bag.  Never fails - wife texts me sometime during round asking me something, I dont respond, and get the follow up "hello"  "hello" texts...then I get in trouble when I get home.

This all gets repeated each time I play.

Heh -- very familiar. I also have the volume off at work because I'm in meetings frequently. She often asks, "Why do you even have that phone?".

I use The Grint app for keeping score, GPS, etc. so I either have it in my pocket or mounted to my push cart. I have the volume set to silent or ring, and typically don't take/make calls or text during the round, only use it for golf purposes.

LOL...I've explained to my wife that I don't check the phone during the round and that I don't know exactly when I will be done playing (I have a standby pass at 2 courses) ...it took a while, but she seems to get it now.

OTOH, made dinner plans with a golfing buddy and his wife a while back. Confirmed with him on Thursday (or at least I thought it was a confirmation), but while I was on the course on Friday, he sent multiple texts asking if we were on for that night and cancelled when he didn't get a reply right away...oh well.

I have a little bike mount that attaches to the up frame of the cart behind the windscreen. I can run gps on it without having to fumble around. Phone is always on silent and texts/calls get ignored from my watch. I too have to be available during the week at all times but a simple I'll call you later text usually suffices.
My wife gets mad too when I don't respond. Says I have phone and watch and still don't see her messages?!!?! I'm playing golf and not focusing on outside communication... love you sorry! Cya soon..
Guys that have to put their phone down on the tee box in the middle of a call to hit drive me nuts!!

Keep mine on vibrate but down in a pocket when I walk and laying on a towel in compartment when I ride. Vibrates only enough to notice when I'm close to it- can't hear it away from carts.

I've got 2 kids that can text at any time and a girlfriend. Would hate for them to need me and I didn't know because I was out playing golf. I rarely look at it otherwise.

Exactly my sentiments. I need to be available to clients. And yes - my phone is my GPS - so I'm don't need even need vibrate - I'm checking it on almost every hole anyway. I do respond to texts and emails, but never make calls on the course.

Like most others I need to have it on for clients.  If I am playing first off on a weekend then it tends to never get checked until the turn and end of the round.

I look at it this way..........your out to play golf, a full round of 18 for approx 4 to 5 hours. If you can't afford to be away from work that long, don't play. You want to listen to music, stay home or wear ear buds. There's nothing worse than looking forward to playing and have some #*&^%$ constantly on the phone while it's his turn to hit or your right at the point of no return in your swing and his phone erupts. Now if your on call and your a needed professional, keep it on vibrate in your pocket.

Starter put me with a threesome and from the first tee, I knew there was going to be a problem. One of the three was also a single that the starter placed and he was never off the damn thing. As soon as he hung up, yep another ring, ring and it goes on like this for the first 6 holes. By this times we're at least a hole and a half behind and the marshal has already asked us to please keep up. 7th hole and again ring, ring and loud talking and laughing. One of the other guys has finally had enough and goes up to him, he's still talking mind you and snatches the phone from his hand. He asks, are you a doctor? guy says no. then what do you do?.....guy says I'm a car salesman......with that reply, the guy holding the phone then throws it into the lake........well there ain't no cars for sale here!......
I though it was going to come to blows, but the guy throwing was a little to big to mess with, so mister cars just took off and headed for the clubhouse. After that the rest of the day was quite enjoyable and I had to laugh all the way home. :cheesy:

Players with the new iPhone X will be busy answering their $1,000 phones with face recognition and won't know that incoming shots are going to conk them in the head... at least they will have an animated emoji to say 'sorry'...

Put my flip phone in the bag with billfold and keys. It's on but can barely hear it..if it ever rings. Just don't get many calls. Wife and kids won't bother me at golf unless an emergency. My buddies..well they get a few more than me. I'm so use to hearing the vibrate noise I'm almost use to it...lol.  It's like...do you really need to get sports updates when your on the golf course??

I am a father of 3 and i am the technical lead on my team and on call once a month. I golf with it on and with volume, normally it is only texts but i need to hear them.

My playing partners understand, if i play in a tournament then it is in silent and a lot of time off.

I chose completely turned off, but I actually never carry it with me on the course at all.  The computer between my ears is 100% focused on getting the lowest score possible on each hole.  I don't have excess compute cycles left over for dealing with a cell phone.

I use an app on my phone as a GPS to get shot distances.  I do sometimes answer short important'ish texts.  Other than that I am focused on golf...
