Wow.... totally underwhelmed watching the event today.  They were talking about tech that Android has employed for years as if it was new.....  This swing and a miss to deliver an actually innovative product cements Apple's position as a market follower that's more interested in printing money than being innovative.  I bet Jobs would puke at that being held in a theater bearing his name. Thoughts?

Agreed..nothing exciting at all. Just a standard upgrade imo. The phone industry better be prepared for a lot of people not upgrading. Soon it will be like the old pc business..software creators were forcing you to up grade to keep up with their ever increasing processor and memory needs otherwise there was no reason to upgrade.

I've already felt having the newest phone has been pointless for several years. Actually the phone business is a lot like golf clubs in that regard. Upgrades every year are minimal and it's very easy to just wait 6-9 months and get it for dirt cheap

We have 1-2 year plans here in Quebec (not sure what it's like in US) and i can get a free 9-12 months old phone basically every 2 years for the cost of my plan. I currently have a Sony Xperia and will be getting the XA1 Ultra shortly for free. I don't really see what i'm missing out on by just doing this.

slightly faster performance, better battery life, faster charging....you're not getting much more than that

Seems to be the same story coming out of the launch event every single year.  It will still sell like hot cakes

I actually felt like the watch won the day. The audio from the person on the paddleboard was phenomenal.

Feels like the iPhone X might be the last real iPhone - next time it will just be the watch.

I always loved the iPhone. had an original iPhone when they came out and remember how exiting it was. Then the 3GS and it got faster but missed the original design look of it. then the 4 > 5 > 6 and that's where i've stopped. I never cared for the "S" models after a year and the last two years have been lackluster to say the least. the iPhone 8 was just something to hold those over who don't want to spend $1k for the X. gone are the days of getting excited for the keynotes to truly wow us.

If the Galaxy phones could run iOS - I would jump over in a heartbeat. the notch bothers me and when leaks started to come out - i was hoping apple would show us something different. a bezel on top to "hide" all the sensors and the notch would be more ideal like Samsung has done. the FaceID will take a lot getting used to along with the swiping.

i'm going to order it solely because i'm still on the iPhone 6 and it's 3yrs old now. it's slow and sometimes unresponsive. the battery doesn't last past noon. i have a mophie battery case on it to get a full day out of it without being attached to a charger. i want something new, different (not by much), fast and shinny which is why i'm getting the X. if not - I would be going after the iPhone 7 over the iPhone 8.

I don't want to say Apple is done, I mean look at their revenue and valuation....   But they fell completely flat on their face this year by blowing an amazing opportunity to update the macbooks and the iphone.

The watch fell flat as soon as it came out that carriers were charging you an extra $10 a month to get cellular

Yes! I had a 7 and hated it. For a guy with an active job I don't know where the heck people are keeping these "tablet" phones. I love my SE and hope they continue to offer this sized phone.

I'll upgrade based on the ATT/DirecTV loyalty 2 for 1 promo.
If it extends to the X I'll buy 2; if not I'll buy 2 of the 8+.

Buy 1 Get 1 with 2 6S+ trade-ins at $300  each makes 2 new phone a couple hundred out of pocket.

Underwhelmed as well.  I have an iPhone 7 plus, mostly because I have bad eyes and need the bigger phone.  I will not upgrade because the new models don't offer me anything.

Face ID...I could care less.  Will probably be annoying.  $1K for the newest model is an absolute joke...walking around wal mart the other day ... I can get a brand new laptop with great specs for $200 -300....

Seriously thinking about ditching apple next go around.

The X is sensational -- huge screen in a small sized phone.  Great combination.  As for cost, just remember that it's not a cell phone.  It's a pocket computer with a phone feature.  It's a bargain at twice the price.

I think the face ID is super cool, just in terms of the technology and how they say it will recognize you even if you gain like 50lbs.

I mean, technology wise it's awesome. As are some of the features you get with each new phone....I just don't see how it truly benefits 98% of people

How hard is getting into my current phone with a password? I just did a quick experiment and it took me less than 2 seconds.

I truly wonder how much more we can really get out of the phone in the next few years that will really make a difference. Until the next real gamechanger tech comes out.

I think the real difference with phones in the next few years will not be on the phones themselves but on the network side. As i know new network specs are being worked on right now that will enable even faster speeds

Saw a good point the other day that facial unlocking will give authorities pretty easy access into your phone should they decide they want it......

I have a 6+ and skipped the 7 because it didn't seem to be much of an upgrade.  The 8 has a few nice features but overall it doesn't warrant an $800 upgrade price.  The X seems to be a new design but the feature of unlocking based on your face is just stupid, from a security standpoint it's a big step backwards.
