Thomas Levet stole in from behind third round leader Lee Westwood to win a play-off against teenage phenom Oliver Fisher at the Open de Andalucia in southern Spain.

With a one shot lead, few would have bet against Westwood to extend his lead atop the Ryder Cup standing and score his 30th Tour victory but an uncharacteristic stumble around the turn when he missed two short par putts at 8 and 9 and failed to pitch close enough on the birdie-able 10th saw the lead swing to Fisher for a 3 shot lead.

Fisher played some sparkling golf on the front 9 with iron shots that continually peppered the flag. Out in 31, it looked as though he would become only the second teenager to win on the European Tour when he took that 3 shot lead to the last 6 holes. Bogies at 13 and 14 and finding the water on the difficult 18th to card a bogey at the last meant that his maiden tour victory would depend on a play-off with Thomas Levet.

Levet, veteran of the 2004 Ryder Cup at Oakland Hills, ground his way into the play-off with solid play all day followed by birdies at 16 and 17, the latter being the result of a superb 25 foot putt on the challenging 230 yard par 3.

Levet won the play-off at the first hole with a par after Fisher found a fairway bunker and could do no more than a bogey. It was a cruel result for Fisher but a redemptive one for Levet who picked up his first Tour win in almost 4 years after a debilitating bout of illness that some thought might end his career.
