Hi all.  I had the good fortune of being awarded Masters tickets in the lottery for the Wednesday practice round.  I will arrive in Atlanta on Tuesday.  Where are some good places to stay on Tuesday night, relatively close to Augusta, so I can get to the course early on Wednesday morning and make the most of the day?  It doesn't have to be in Augusta, but I'd like to stay somewhere relatively nice within 20-30 minutes of the course.

Thanks in advance.

Most hotels are going to have must stay multiple night restrictions during that week. I manage a TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Columbia, SC and we are sold out every year for Master week. We are about 50 minutes or so from Augusta, and traffic is usually pretty light on I-20. Anyone can direct message me if they are interested in making reservations or have any questions?

When I went in 2016 we did an air bnb in Martinez GA which is just outside the loop around Augusta. I think including traffic on Washington it took like 15 min to get into the parking area. It was cheaper than staying in Columbia, which we had done the year before.

Comfort Inn & Suites, Gordon HWY

Great experience, but we pretty much just slept there.

Very easy to get to the course from there. Easily in the Masters parking lot in 20 minutes or so, with traffic.

In 2015, Stayed Sunday night for Monday practice round at the Clarion Suites right off I20/Washington Rd. It was nice enough, we basically just slept there, packed our bags and headed to the course prior to gates opening. I don't know if it was a mistake, or just because it was only Sunday night but got the room for quite cheap. I think it was only like $125 or something.

This coming April, will be staying Monday night for Tuesday practice round at the Quality Inn & Suites just off I20 near Washington Rd. Got this for around $375 final with taxes. Luckily this year we're splitting with another couple!

Thanks for all the responses.  Do most of these hotels require a full nonrefundable payment at the time of booking?  I assume so.  By when do most people make their reservations?  Am I already late at this point?

Congratulations on getting tickets. First timer?

Personally, I wouldn't stay any closer than Columbia. Though you still have a decent drive to Augusta, staying any closer brings incredibly high rates.

My current reservation is non-refundable - the agent at the Comfort Inn & Suites said pretty much all are non-refundable for that week. My travel reward credit card has trip cancellation insurance. So if I have something so drastic come up that prevents me from going, I should be covered.

I pretty much booked as soon as I could after finding out I what day(s) I had tickets for. While the rates are always predictably high, I have seen them go up as it gets closer and many of the "cheaper" (relatively speaking) options go fast. Others don't open up booking for that week until a certain point.

There are always last minute finds and deals, but we booked within a couple days of getting the news and I was just happy to have that done and out of the way, no worries about lodging, and a decent place that was good access for price when we booked.

Actually, it's my second time. I was there in 2000 when we had just found out that my wife was pregnant with our older son.  He was born in November of that year.  He will be 17 in November and he and I are going next April.

We just need a nice place for Tuesday night that is within 20-30 minutes.  We'll probably stay in Atlanta on Wednesday night as we'll be flying back home on Thursday.  I don't mind spending $300 for the first night for a nice "suites" type hotel.  I just don't want to have to book multiple nights.  How far is Columbia from Atlanta and Augusta?  Is it between?

EDIT Nevernind, I now see that Columbia is the opposite direction.  Looks like it's closer to Augusta than Atlanta though.

Just do a search on a site like kayak.com or bookings.com, use the map feature and see if there are any in your price range within your accepted driving distance to AGNC. I haven't heard of too many of the hotels making you have a minimum number of nights to book. I am booked for only Monday night with Tuesday checkout at a place right by the course.

Find a couple places, call and ask...

When I went in 2014, I stayed in one of the Eastern exurbs of Atlanta. Pretty much felt I would have been better off in Atlanta proper. While there are decent hotels in that area, the area in general is not particularly nice. If you are going to stay in the Atlanta area, stay in Atlanta. Be near the fun, interesting stuff.

I do agree with everyone who says Columbia is the place to be. College town. 'nuff said.

You've gotten three good recommendations already with vacancies.

I'd say if those don't suit you, plug your date into TripAdvisor and you'll have all the info you need and access to all the hotel websites/prices in a matter of minutes.

If you are flying into Atlanta, why in the world would you want to drive to Columbia, SC to stay? You could drive to Athens, Ga or many others areas. You would not get robbed on the cost of a room, it would take you 1 1/2 hours to drive to Augusta. I have done it many times, leaving at 6:00 to 6:30 am and arriving on the grounds by 8:00 am. You won't miss anything and will save several hundreds of dollars that could be spent on souvenirs!

That's a great suggestion. The cost of the downtown Athens Hilton Garden Inn for those dates is around $140.

I went for the first time last year and we stayed at the Marriott in Athens. It was an easy drive to Augusta from there. Athens is a cool town. If you get there early enough, it's worth looking around downtown and the University. A couple of nice courses in the area as well if you're planning on playing during the trip.
