When you get picked, or drawn for a 4 man scramble team, or when the tournament is all over, what is it about your game that might help, or have helped the team the most?

Driving and wedge play.  Possibly putting.  I don't consider myself a great putter, but for some reason I always putt really well in scrambles.  Probably a mental thing having the stress removed from my mind as I putt since we have 4 shots at it.

Driving and putting usually for me.  I like to have at least one or two approach shots used as well, I consider that a success.

My drive, while erratic, is usually a lot longer than my partners.

My iron play, while not fantastic, is pretty reliable.

And I have been known do drain a few long putts, that really have no business going in. So there's that....

I am almost always the designated driver (the course is usually pretty short from the forward tees).  I can also grind in some short putts as needed.  There is also the periodic good shot with an iron or wedge.

Example of my best performance.  I played in a scramble where I made two eagles and two birdies on my ball.  I also pitched in for eagle from about 40 yards.  BTW, it is a 4 person scramble. :)

Totally depends on the rest of the team. If it's a A,B,C,D type team then basically we are playing my ball 80% of the time. If it's a team with all scratch to single digit cappers it opens me up on my driving to go last and if one of the 3 are in good position I let loose with the driver. Then most other shots probably 30-40% of the time.

I help to keep the team united.

The unthinkable happened to a team I was on back in 2010.   After a run of 5 birdies, we made a bogey.  It was like an evil spirit took over the group.  We all turned on each and started the blame game, calling each other names.  It got so bad two of us had to swap carts.  There was so much anger.  On the following tee, I made us all shake hands.

We fought back with birds on 7 of the last 12 holes and finished second.   We came as friends and left as friends after an awful warmed over buffet of crappy food.

Man, I've never played with any teammates that would get to that point of name calling because of one bogey.  It's a scramble.  How can you be mad at your teammate when you had a chance at the exact same shot?

Lots of stuff going on at that time.  We had won two years in a row and we're going for three.  Two weeks prior one of the guys had a business deal go bad and it cost my other buddy about $20K.  He also accused him of hitting on his wife. never happened.  His wife was and is really hot.   It didn't help that I called the guy who missed the last putt a F-ING ALICE.  The fourth guy called me an a-hole.   Then it all came to a head.

Also, I wasn't an WRXer yet, so with nowhere to vent we took it out on each other.

Most scrambles let women play from the red tees.  Using my drive it means that I can cut most dog legs and we can reach virtually every par five in two.

I am long and keep the ball in play very well. Not the best putter or short game for my index, but I'm a good "you'll always be long and in play" guy to have. This also applies to long iron shots, where if I don't hit the green I'm rarely too far off.

Actually this year I've had a couple of great scrambles. Shot -12 in one recently and two of our guys were 12-13+ indexes. It was kind of as described, we had less than 100 in on most holes and played the four par 5's at -5

I'm usually a designated driver. I hit a lot of fairways with good length. Having said that the thing missing from most teams I've been on is someone who can hit iron shots close enough for legitimate birdie tries. It is discouraging to hit from good drive position and have a long putt left. You might make one or two bombs but it's hard to make birdies. Good chipping saves pars but pars are almost like bogies in a scramble. Good approach shots set up the birdies. If you have to scramble to save very many pars you are not winning. Give me a good iron player and a couple of good putters and we have a chance.

I enjoy being able to grip and rip as the longest hitter in our typical group (250-280 depending on conditions and my swing that day). Usually someone before me has put one in play.

I provide about 50% of approach shots and when we miss a green, it's almost always my short game shot we take. I'm just more versatile around the greens.

Where my partners pick me up is putting. I am good for a couple long ones, but I certainly need my partners to clean up some 4-5 footers for me!

Well, I'm glad you were able to defuse the situation at least.

It was just bad timing.   Great guys.  We hated losing.

I always hit last.  If we have a safe shot, I try to unload or bend something around a corner or play to a more dangerous side of the fairway for angle.

We play lot of scrambles in our company (5-6) a year but they're industry tourneys and not competitive. My coworkers (8-12 handicaps one with no handicap)  prefer to drink where as I rarely drink on the course.  They're are all long hitters though.  Usually these tourneys make you play from about 6200 yards where I usually play from 7000 so there's usually little danger off the tee.

Two tourneys ago I took out my wife, boss and client.  I shot 4 birdies and 1 eagle to go minus 6 solely on my shots alone.  On a couple, the others didn't even get out of the cart to putt.  The funny part is that we won with a minus 7.  I wasn't even going to hand in the card because I didn't think we had a chance.

On Friday we played another with some guys from work and a coworkers friend.  We sucked and started off with 4 pars.  Made a few birdies but knew we were out of the running right at the start. We have won this tourney 5 years in a row. Then on the 15th, 290 yard par 4 I drove the green.  We missed the putt but made the birdie.  The next par five I drove and hit an approach to 12 feet from 214, partner putting before me made the eagle.  I tried after and missed so glad he dropped it.  The last hole, we used my drive (nobody else was even on the map) my approach from 235 to 6 feet and I drained the putt to go 5 under in the last 3 holes.  We came in 2nd at minus 12 with the winners at minus 14.

I don't make many birdies when I play normally.  I don't know if its more a factor of the shortened tees or the way more aggressive play.  I'd say that we use about 40-75% of my shots depending on who I play with.  On Saturday we played a company tourney with my wife's company. The two guys we played with only golf once a year for this event.  We used a total of 7 shots that's weren't mine.  One partner did get the closest to the pin after coming up 40 yards short (with a 3 wood from 155) that just cleared a pond, hit a rock, bounced forward and ended up pin high.

When we play these "industry" events with my work group, we expect to win but usually goof around a lot and have a bunch of side bets going.  It's funny the pressure I feel when I'm hitting last and we don't have a shot in play.  Usually everyone else is making noise, farting, hitting the cart buzzer in your swing to screw you up but if we need my shot, everything goes silent and nobody says a word.

Usually driving the cart, putting, and distances. This last time I was able to add driving to the list.
