Ebay transaction, and when I got home my daughter had picked up the package from the porch. Went to open the package and the tape on one end had been cut and the contents had been removed. Not sure if it was stolen off the porch (only about a 20 minute window) or if it was taken at some point during delivery. It was in a Priority triangle box.  Not sure if I have any re-course. I have notified the seller. The weight on the postage states that they were in there to being with. Here is the link:

http://www.ebay.com/...-/253138673174?

Let me know if you seen them for sale anywhere...

Thanks,
Brant

I've had that happen before from poor packing (incoming package).  How much tape was on the end of the box and could you tell if it was cut or if the tape tore open?

I always quadruple tape the box closed and pack in such a way that the goods could come through a nuclear blast and remain unharmed.

Did you get reimbursed at all? One end was taped heavily and the other end had one strip of tape(that was cut) over the tab that closes the lid. Seller is in Florida so I'm not expecting a reply, which is understandable. Should I go to the post office with the box, or chalk it up as an L?

It's the sellers responsibility to get the package to you safely.  If there is a damage/loss claim it's the sellers responsibility to file such a claim.

If there was only one piece of tape it's likely that the package popped open.  With something like a bundle of shafts if the box doesn't have some dunnage inside to keep the goods from shifting that can lead to a problem too.

Just to play devils advocate here, if the postal worker said they did deliver the box and it was sealed, at that point, the seller has done his job.  It his not his responsibility to make sure someone doesnt steal anything off anyones porch.  It is why I have 99% of the things I purchase shipped to my office.

I know before when ive picked up packages before from the post office if there is any signs of damage they make me check there cause they put in that box was damaged so if it looked like it had been opened or damaged before hand i wouldnt see the post man just leaving that on the doorstep if he noticed anything odd

I had that happen to me once. Postal employee left a pick up at post office sticker on my door. I thought that was odd. I went to the Post Office and the person there brought out my box with the one end opened on the box. It was heavily taped but the tape had been cut and the lid was open. They had me inspect in the contents right there. It was a putter that also came with extra weights. At first I said the weights were missing but then I realized the seller had put the extra weights in the putter cover pouch. When I mentioned the weights were missing they said they were going to have to contact the seller because it was insured. Luckily all went well for me. Good luck with yours.

I agree with you 100%. But with my recent experiences with my postal carriers I wouldn't put to much faith in if they said the box had something in it and it was sealed. A few yrs. ago I had a great carrier. Now I always see some one different. The one complains when he has to drop something off at my door.

I have had few problems with missing contents and damaged product over the last couple years. What I have found out over the course of time is it is the sellers responsibility to file the claim with usps. Just be sure to take lots of pictures cuz he will need them. I always refund right away but seeing as the seller is in Florida some time may be needed. Just stay in touch with the seller as best as possible right now. Don't just chalk it up to a loss because the post office is required to deliver your package safely. There is a reason they offer insurance and it is for these types of situations. As well as damage. I have found that I am usually reimbursed within a week of filing a claim.  If you try to file a claim they will tell you it is the sellers job not the buyers and will advise you to let the seller know.

I've stopped shipping shafts in PVC tubes because of this.  I pack wads of stuffing in each end, tape it heavily, and about 1 of 10 somehow ends up being empty when it gets to its destination.  My theory:  postal employees are opening them up occasionally, fearing that I'm sending some dangerous stuff in the PVC pipe.  When the buyer informs me that he has received a very nice piece of empty PVC pipe, I reimburse him, file a claim with the USPS, and take the loss (they only insure $50 if you don't buy extra insurance.)

You're operating at that frequent of a loss, and still haven't figured out to take out full boat on your insurance? Regardless of shipping container. I've shipped more than a few shafts and have never had a problem (knock on wood). Maybe I'm exceptionally lucky on 100+ times, but at a rate of 10% loss I'd just start paying for the insurance. Just saying.

Lol. I can just see this seriously being done by the OP.

And I think levity may be the word you're looking for.

Did the carrier actually have it marked as delivered? I'm surprised PayPal would refund if that was the case they way they are.

I've shipped 5000 items through paypal and the usps. This has happened once where it showed up empty. Make a claim through ebay and paypal and they will take care of it for you

I had that happen to me with a transaction on BST. You should be able to get your money back from either seller or PayPal.

Did the carrier actually have it marked as delivered? I'm surprised PayPal would refund if that was the case they way they are.

Yes. It was a big fiasco and I even posted the transaction here. I truly believed it was mailed empty but it's hard to prove. PayPal should take care of you the other side finally refunded me because he thought usps was going to refund him. I got my money back but when usps said he would only get $50 he tried to come after me for the money he gave me. I said go to PayPal but it was ugly because there were so many lies on his side and it took 12 days for him to ship. Your situation seems like it might have fallen out or lost during transit so you should be covered

I've filed appropriate claims. I just feel bad, I know the seller being in Florida and affected by Irma, this should be the least of his concerns.

You may also want to check if your homeowners would cover the loss as theft off your porch.

I don't agree that this issue is the sellers responsibility!

But when you do, you prefer Dos Equis?

Personally, my deductible is more than the $99 set of shafts he bought. Plus, I'd be afraid they'd jack my rate if I filed a claim.

Isn't it great to have insurance that you are afraid to use except in the worst scenario's? I'm in that club too and with you though and feel the same way about the  small loss stuff.
