I've been using golfshot on my cell phone for years but started growing tired of pulling the phone out, waiting for the yardage, etc.

Just picked up a Sony SW3 which runs android wear and GS using it's standalone GPS in the watch itself.

I've read some battery life issues but others say no problem.

Anyone else use this combo or the Sony and another app?

I did use SW3 and Golfshot, when I used to play 9 holes more often. I now tend to play 18 more often and the combination just doesn't have the battery life. For me it tends to be nearing 0% by around 14-16 holes in.

When you're playing you don't really want to have to think about how frequently your looking at your distances in order to save battery so I've now changed to using Hole19 instead of golfshot. There are pros and cons to this though. Firstly, this uses your phone's gps rather than the watches which I agree kind of defeats the point of the watch because you need to keep the phone in your pocket or be aware that it's measuring from where your bag is. However, it means the watch easily lasts 18 holes: I've had it still at 45% by the end of 18. The other advantage of Hole19 is that it gives you distance to front and back of the green as well as centre whereas golfshot just gives you centre (for the free version anyway).

I still use golfshot to log my stats post round though because it's better than Hole19 for the free version. Hole19 free version clogs up the stats feed with "here's what you could have won" things trying to get you to pay for the premium version. Golfshot also does automatic handicap calculation where Hole19 doesn't.

Good information... thanks. I play 9 holes a lot... especially while the kids are in school. I'll look at the other apps as options for 18 holes rounds.

Been using both Golfshot and Hole19 with my SW3. For a free app Hole19 is pretty impressive.
