With the Presidents Cup coming up I started wondering how the caddies fare during these matches. They are putting the same amount of work that they always would into the rounds and prep, etc... but have no chance of there guy winning $1m or more.

How do caddies usually get compensated for these events?

Most caddies make a weekly or yearly wage on top of the % of winning. They get a bonus for these weeks

It just seems that most weeks they are working hard for the upside of the good finish, not the weekly wage.

Players and caddies have gotten stipends in Ryder Cup and the donations to charity, of course, the players get to be involved in. Guessing the President's Cup may do something similar. Assume the players pay them something and that's between them, what's the difference?

Chances are good that if your horse is at the presidents cup or Ryder cup, the jockey had a pretty good year/two years riding that horse

Well stacks of singles would constitute a cash payment so I am skeptical.  That being said it sounds like a good gig if you can pull it off

I caddied one event on Symetra Tour for a former top ranking LPGAer, i was shocked how much she paided me, i expecting to get nothing. All thongs considered it doesn't come close to pga caddies get but even though the work was hard it was difficult, if that makes sense. I would diffently trade awaything to caddy for a top 150 player in the world

If the caddie is on an actual contract, there are probably bonuses worked in for making these teams.  I'm not sure if it's the norm, or just what I'm familiar with, but the tour caddies I know have contracts with their player's management team.  The player doesn't pay the caddie's salary.

Ferg, do you think FIGJAM is properly compensating his brother Tim while looping?  Or do you think Phil just tells Tim the mere fact the he is on the bag at all is compensation enough?

One would think  it was payment enough that Tim got to use Phil's legal staff for the shirtless golf cart incident.  Funny how that just went away and was never heard of again once he started lugging the bag for brother Phil.  I'm sure Phil gives him a few bucks for the vending machine.

Something tells me that FIGJAM's brother has probably done better over the years by virtue of being FIGJAM's brother than he would have otherwise.  My guess is they probably worked out something a long time ago, and carrying his brother's bag for a few months is the least he can do.

Ahh yes, we've now come full-circle with respect to Tim and his legal troubles.  He owes brother Philip.

I have two guys, one a friend, one an acquaintance, that caddy for some high powered horses. Trust me, I don't think the world will ever know the true compensation the TOP guys give their caddies. TRUST me when I say this, both the guys I know are doing VERY, VERY well......LOL.......

Sounds contrived.
You only wish you were me.......1 lives in Hawaii, in a house given to him on a players sponsor bonus. That along with a condo in Scottsdale, and a house in Jacksonville. He's caddied for 25 years, for 2 major winners, Was in Japan on the Champions Tour last week, Top 10 finish.....The OTHER guy does a funny little dance on the greens......Does that ring a bell?........I have several friends in sales, caddies, etc. I was a GM at a resort the hosted Q-school several times. You meet some people along the way.....LOLOL

Ferg, do you think FIGJAM is properly compensating his brother Tim while looping?  Or do you think Phil just tells Tim the mere fact the he is on the bag at all is compensation enough?

Something tells me that FIGJAM's brother has probably done better over the years by virtue of being FIGJAM's brother than he would have otherwise.  My guess is they probably worked out something a long time ago, and carrying his brother's bag for a few months is the least he can do.

Has everyone forgotten Tim's many golf jobs over past decades? He's been well paid w/o Phil connection.

A close friend of mine is the COO for a 5B/year company.   His brother works for a different company in the warehouse moving boxes and driving a forklift.

The assumption that a "sibling connection" provides some sort of conduit for "automatic" financial support is subject to a case-by-case basis.

Tim in Mickelson Enterprises is an officer of the Company and helped run the CO w/ his dad and almost no input from Phil. However,Tim was always focused on ASU golf while his dad & Phil were on tour.

His dad, Phil Sr. was usually @most tour stops selling the periscope in the comfy  A/C'ed Merchandise tent. He was always watching Phil however possible, which is fortunate, as many TVs show the tournament in the merch tent.

If you've ever met Phil Sr. then you were in for a treat. He taught Phil well and its easy to see the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Fwiw, yes I have the periscope, its very useful & well made. Too bad because of change in PGA rules you can't bring them into tournaments & use them anymore.
