Scotty makes good putters, but every now and then there's a model or even line that isn't received well. Is there a model/line that sticks out to you as being over rated or even horrible?

I don't really get the Cameron & Crown series..dedicating an entire line to 33 inch putters.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "overrated".  In my opinion, all of his lines from the Studio Stainless and older were amazing and only the deep milled select lines recently were good.  All the others have been overrated IMO.  And a special place in the trash can for the Detour.

I'd say all of them as well. Especially the new ones with inserts (I guess you could call them that).

t I have had access to quite a few Camerons , and I cant say that anyone stood out as being bad or good. Now of course you have the guys that are the Cameron Crazy's , but in all honesty he takes other peoples proven designs and uses great materials. If you go back any original design he had did not do well.

Personally SC's best designs where when he kept things simple, i.e. Studio Stainless 2002/2003.

I don't think I am going too far out on a limb here, but I much prefer the classic style Scotty putters to some of the most recent lines - specifically the 2016 Select series with the funky inserts. There is a reason the 009, button back, and DJ/Fowler style NP2s are so popular. They are clean and well made without all the extra fluff.

I am not sure any of them were 'overrated'. The bad ones (detour I am looking at you) got called out and the good ones - are good.

Putters are such a personal thing calling one model overrated seems odd.

I haven't used that many Scotty Cameron's but to me the studio select 2.6 was absolute trash.

Could not believe when I traded it in how much they gave me for it. Completely paid for a brand new odyssey putter.

It really is just a name and appearance thing for me. Because even though I haven't liked my experience with Scotty's I would probably still overpay for a Monterey, CA version just because it looks so good.

I'm also from Monterey hahahaha!

They are nice putters but, hey, all the really expensive steel putters are overrated. I mean they are made of carbon steel or stainless with steel shafts and possibly a synthetic/rubber grip.

If you consider price when you talk about "rating" of a putter, I'd say every Scotty is over rated, seeing as there's really not much of a difference between say a Newport and any other OEM's Anser style putter that costs much less. Scotty just has cool looks and the "name" behind it that make it worth more. If you read into any of the MGS articles, you'd see that they tend to never perform very well.

Don't like most mallets, especially with the big red cross alignment lines.

The deep milling is great, but don't have to buy a Scotty to get it.

If Scotty Cameron welded a shaft onto a pop can, stamped a circle T on it, and charged 400 dollars people would buy it and claim its the greatest thing ever. Its the guy doing the putting not the putter that matters. Oh and yeah I have an A.O.P. Newport myself. Nice soft feel. Rolls exactly the same as any other putter I've yipped with. :)
