I recently took up golf this summer and have been spending most of my time on the range. Have been getting my own clubs and equipment so I can play a few more rounds. The balls I have been using so far have been a mix of balls from the range when I come across a non range ball in the bucket. I am looking for a good ball for a beginner to keep straight on long balls while also having enough touch around the green. Would ideally not be to expensive (I still lose a fair number of balls), and come in high visibility colors (orange, pink, yellow). Would love some suggestions of balls to try out

My biggest suggestion would be to stick with the same ball for consistency reasons. Wilson Duo, Callaway Supersoft, any of the Top Flite Gamer series will work.

I agree with this advice for a serious player, but as a novice the OP would not hqve a consistent enough game for balls to make a difference.

For a beginner, cheap...Taylormade distance+, or Snell Get Sum (not necessarily "cheap"). Just one man's opinion.

THIS

As a beginner, you're probably going to lose a lot of golf balls until you get consistent and better at.  You'll improve and figure out how you like to play and will need to find a ball to match that style and what you need.  Good luck!

For the first year or two I stuck to sub-$20 a dozen golf balls as I was losing them at a steady clip. I didn't want to be losing an extra $20 a round on expensive balls on top of my green fees and cart fees.

As you get better, and your game becomes more consistent then start diving into the golf ball pond.

Truth be told, I'll still take some "cheap" golf balls over some of the premiums any day of the week.

Whatever yellow ball you can find on sale for around $12-$15/dozen. Ideally, get enough to play the same ball for at least a few weeks in a row so you'll be able to develop some touch for how the ball reacts around the greens.

Don't worry about finding a ball that "keeps straight on long balls". The direction and curvature of a golf ball are determined by your swing, not the ball. Balls that correct slices and hooks are not allowed under the Rules of Golf and anything that tells you otherwise is just marketing.

A sensible man will realize that the eyes may be confused in two ways---by a change from light to darkness or from darkness to light; and he will recognize the same thing happens to the soul.

Dicks Sporting Goods has some really good deals on balls for the budget minded person.  Free shipping on orders over $25 if you don't have one local to you.

Top Flight D2+ Distance 30 balls for $25 (Can get in Yellow)
Top Flight Gamer/Gamer Soft 24 balls for $30 or 36 balls for $40 (Can get Gamer in Yellow and Gamer Soft in Blue)
Top Flight Gamer Tour 24 balls for $35
Maxfli U6 Tour/Tour Soft 24 balls for $30
Top Flight Bomb 48 balls for $35 (24 pack BOGO, can get in Yellow)
Slazenger Raw series 36 balls for $25

I have played the Gamer Tour and it's pretty solid for a budget urethane 3 piece.  Been wanting to try the Maxfli U6 Tour Soft (I'm pretty stocked up right now on balls), but it's a 6 piece urethane.

Wilson 50's are awesome and if you have Amazon Prime you can get Yellows for $13 and the Orange frequently goes on sale for $8 as an add-on item, which is a steal for this ball.  Walmart and Kmart stock the 50 as well for about $14.  I like both the yellow and orange for high vis balls.  Seen some complaints about the 50 yellow color but it doesn't bother me one bit.  YMMV

Good luck!

Top Flite D2 Straight does a solid impersonnation of the E6 and run about 80 cents per ball.  It has changed my opinion of what a Top Flite can be.

Wilson 50 Elite and Duo are damn good balls too.  You should be able to find some deals on bulk Duo's where they're about 90 cents per ball.

Geeze, don't overthink it.

Get yourself a s*** ton of used Callaway Supersofts and call it a day. ~$.50 a ball on the Bay.

You'll like the softness on misshits.

As a beginner the ball shouldn't matter much. Just buy whatever's on sale at the store that claims to be soft. Should do the job fine

I still can't find a better all-around ball than the Gamer Soft. Three piece, non-urethane. Long as anything, great feel, medium spin on irons, low spin off the driver. Play whatever gets you to Black Friday and then you should be able to load up when Dick's and/or Golf Galaxy offer them for $10 a dozen plus free shipping. This ball flat out performs.

I second the Gamer Soft.  If you want something a touch softer the Maxfli Softfli at $25/2 Dozen is a good choice.  I have never tried used golf balls but that is another option.

Get the ball at the price you feel comfortable with, and don't pass up any balls you find on the course!

I still follow that advice and take the junkers to the range once I accumulate a decent amount.

Cheapest balls you can find. Until you can see a difference from 120yds and in with different balls you don't have the game for a 3- or 4-piece ball.

Another yes for the Wilson 50 Elite. That's an interesting, inexpensive ball. I suggested the Taylormade Distance+ because it fits a formula I like for beginners: fairly soft+ionimer cover. Some here say the ball doesn't matter regarding curvature. I say "malarkey" to that. I remember when I was pretty new to the game a put a couple ballata balls in my bag and tried to play them. It was hilarious. Softer, stickier balls are more reactive to a marginal swing. I've learned all that the hard way...haha.

+ 1 for the GamerSoft. The white is nice. Not sure why they chose blue over yellow. The blue is hard to see. But, I suspect a fun color for others. Not a fan of the Softfli. Too soft.

There's a Q&A video with Dean Snell on another site that is worth the watch to help you out. While not specific to his products, I've played both the GET SUM and MTB from Snell and they are awesome.
