Just bought a pair of these to maybe  try on the course. The bottoms Look like a very similar to the nike lunar wing tips.  Tired them on in the store super light.

Surprisingly good looking. That white mesh is doomed to be yellow though.

The other colorways from Vans look really great - it's the lack of water resistance that dooms these for a player like me that's usually dewsweeping.  I wonder if you could NikWax or Scotch Guard WaterShield on these to make them viable?

I bet a good covering with some Crep spray would work to waterproof them for early morning rounds. Vans uses Scotchguard on their MTE Sk8-Hi's and I've never had an issue with water seeping in on the leather or suede versions in the winter. Obviously mesh and canvas is more porous than leather and suede.

I really like these for some reason not sure I'd wear them on the course but as a street shoe or something to wear to the range they look solid.

It works fine, but is a little more pricey than a Crep or Scotchguard spray. I prefer the Crep for the aerosol can rather than the "spritz" bottle. Seem to get more even cover with the aerosol but either should serve the purpose you're looking for.

I'm reviving this thread with a question. I actually posted a thread about non-golf golf shoes asking about what non-golf-designated shoes people like to wear to play golf in. Someone recommended these.. having been a Vans junkie pretty much since the age of 8 (39 now), a golf lover, and a wearer of non-golf golf shoes, these  made sense on every level for me.. so I pulled the impulse trigger and ordered them. After placing the order, I'm reading reviews about sizing and am seeing contradicting comments. Some say they run too big and order a half size smaller.. and others say they run small and order a half size bigger. What's been your take on the shoe since you bought them? How do they work as a golf shoe? I know the question about non-waterproofing came up but I live in AZ where it's dry most of the year.. so no issues there.

Thanks for the input

To me they seem to run a tad smaller, but with that being said I went with my regular Vans shoe size and have no issues. The outsole is comparable to the Ecco, so think it will work great for golf. But living in Seattle, I need to wait a bit before conditions are right for an all white non-waterproof shoes.

I have a pair of Nike SB Frees I've been looking to replace as my go to casual sneaker and these look to be just the ticket.  I might nab a pair now.

Played my first round in these on Saturday and... They're awesome! these could legitimately be categorized as spikeless golf shoes IMO. The fact that they are still built on the skate shoe platform gives them the same lateral stability that folks are looking for in golf shoes. Every surface of the sole is touching the ground, the tread pattern isn't far off from my Adicross's (maybe better) and they're as comfortable as anything I've every worn on my feet. In AZ we don't have a lot of moisture issues and breathability is probably more important when playing in 90-110 degrees and these have those bases covered perfectly.. and they're Vans!

I play over 50% of my golf in these shoes and I love them.  No traction issues at all.  I wear a 13 in these which is the same as almost all of my other shoes.

I tried these on last night. I typically wear a 14, the 13 might work without socks. Really nice cushion, maybe a little narrow up front and a bit more ramp angle than I prefer. The sole is not nearly as aggressive as other spikeless shoes but would probably work.

Patiently waiting for size 14 to try ...

I wouldn't go so far as to say water "proof" but they're surprisingly very water resistant. I bought them not really worrying about playing in water as we have very little of it here in AZ.. but I've played 2 full rain rounds and some morning rounds with heavy dew and have yet to feel any moisture inside. They certainly breathe like nobody's business. My field sample may not be the most extensive but so far I've got no concerns for wet feet.

As someone who used to skate and also loves golf I hate hows Vans are prostituting themselves since Nike took them over.  They’re bloody skate shoes not golf shoes.  This is tantamount to Callaway making skateboard decks.  It’s just wrong. Simple as.

Interesting you see it that way. I too used to skate and love golf. I see it as a chance to wear a brand I love to do something I love. FYI, these shoes aren't being touted by Vans as golf shoes at all. They were designed as all terrain surf shoes to help surfers get comfortably and safely to hidden surf spots. We just happen to find them equally as functional as really rad golf shoes..
