i have dg120s x100 in my 18 x forged. They play very similar to standard x100s just a lot easier to swing.

I too found the HZRDUS 85 overly light and didn't lend itself to the consistency you would expect from a club like this. Launch characteristics were pretty spot on so the next experiment is going to be Tour Green 105. Should give pretty similar launch/spin with a little more weight compared to HZRDUS 85. I also tried 120 gram steel and didn't like it at 40" just a little too heavy feeling to be versatile as my only club between 3 wood and longest iron. At 39.5" it would have felt perfect but loses a little distance and the ability to hit the high long one into par 5's. The head is low launch and spin so at shorter lengths and heavier weight it becomes a one dimensional stinger club for me. Stronger swingers with tendency towards high launch/spin would probably love that set up, though.

Yep I have the 100tx as well. Love it. Came in very light SW wise. I have the entire back of the club head loaded with lead tape to get it to D4 and I play it 1/2 long.

Yes, .355 taper but shaving down a .370 hybrid shaft is not unheard of.

Yes, play a hybrid shaft in my current Bridgestone air muscle that I turned on my belt sander. Thanks

I hit this OK with the HZRDUS black 85X but i feel it has alot more in it with a different shaft. I agree the 85X feels exceptionally light and has a tendency to balloon slightly on me. might see if i can find someone to put a D+ 100X in it or something similar.

I have tried but still hate the shaft. Either returning it or putting it on the BST and will order one with steel.

It’s odd, my King Utility at 19.5 is carrying 17 yards farther with a much better land angle and in contrast to initial testing is producing about 3mph more ball speed on trackman than my 17* UDI. It is 100% due to the shaft. SW is too low and I just don’t swing it as confidently.

On the other hand, the King covers the gap between 3w and 4i well so I may just call the UDI a failed experiment if I can’t find a more tip soft shaft that is both heavier and a better fit for my swing.

Trackman #’s

FG Tour V6 4i (23*, X100) - Carry 243, total 260.5

King UT (19.5, Rogue 85 X) - Carry 252.9, total 272.1, Land angle 40*

P790 UDI (Stock specs) - Carry 235.6, Total 264.9, land angle 28.2*

I know there is a lot more potential in the UDI, I just need to elevate it more. Launch angle of 8.8* means these are basically stingers. I deloft the club a lot and I think a heavier more tip soft shaft would bring this thing to life, but with the King working well I don’t want to spend too much time or money on this.
what are the swing weights on these various clubs?
very impressive # from King with Rogue black

Cobra is D4, 4i is D5, UDI is D0. I know the SW is the primary issue, but the shaft itself feels bad to me.

More than anything this is probably an example of how much swing weight matters. Would be interesting to see your smash factors.

I get mine this weekend playing 40.25”, standard loft/lie, and Graphite Design Tour AD Utility Driving Iron shaft in 95X flex. Little Dallas golf vacation so should be a nice test! Have never loved long irons like I love these, so very excited to try the UDI.

Installed this into mine.  Different animal vs HZRDUS 85.  At 40” it comes in heavy at D7 so I’m going to trim it a bit after testing it.  But more consistent dispersion and flight with this in.

Yeah SW is critical, to me more than most as I am a feel player and very sensitive to any changes in the feel in my clubs. My point was my preferred SW of D4 is unattainable with this shaft. I can add lead tape to the head to get it there but then this shaft would play even softer, and it is too soft already, just not a good fit for me.

As to smash Trackman was doing a pretty poor job on picking up club head speed but avg was 1.52 for the P790 and 1.49 for the King. These figures are not accurate, just incorrect CHS readings.

**Edit - Rereading the post it did not come across with the intended tone. Changed so as not to sound like a jerk.

I briefly tried it at a TM demo day last weekend. It felt light with the hazardous shaft. My driver swing speed is about touching 110 now and all I could hit was low flat knuckle balls. Perfect for a windy day but that maybe it.

Took a P790 UDi our today (HZRDUS 6.0) to see how it compares to my P790 3 iron (built to 2 iron length with PX LZ 6.0)

No purchase for me....I was hitting the 3 iron further and higher than the UDi and it seems easier to hit too, plus its hittable off the deck too!

There was a lot of excitement and anticipation before the announcement of the P-790 UDI, but now that people have the club in their hands, it's no surprise that some are disappointed.  I have said from the beginning it would be quite a challenge for the 790 UDi '2-iron' to beat TM's original UDI lineup.  After all, the original TM UDI effort was a dedicated driving iron design with (5) different lofts to choose from, rather than a set-matching 790 2-iron' with a UDI stamp and graphite shaft.  Perhaps that key design difference will be better understood and appreciated now!

Long live the original UDI lineup which included both the Tour Preferred UDI as well as the RSI TP stamped UDI driving irons, #1 thru #5 available in the original design, with a range of lofts, (16* to 26*).

IMO, the original UDI is still the 'ULTIMATE' driving iron!  UDI.jpg

I have had them all and the P790 is the best of the bunch hands down, not even close.  For me at least...

Same for me. I tested my p790 with x100 and it out preformed my Tm udi with a 105x. The 790 udi is more workable for me and longer. When I drove a 290 yard par 4 with a 2 iron it was a keeper. Im able to its a running draw to get that kind of yardage and then hit a fade where I couldnt do it as easily with the other udi and I like the older Tm udi a lot.
