First round with the 790 irons in the book today.  Was nice to be back at my home course to test them.  First thing I noticed is the high ball flights and increased distance in long irons.  The short irons were very workable, up and down.

All in all, I am really liking the new irons and they feel really good.  Will keep playing them

Did anyone compare the ball flight of the P790s to the M1 irons?  I know the 790s look more appealing but I heard they are almost identical to the M1s in ball flight with a slightly lower launch.

We did not test the 790 to the M1 while on the trip.

Michael Newton did a video on YouTube of this exact matchup.

A question for the guys who attended the trip. Did you find consistency in the distances on the 790s? I'm just worried about getting that one got shot that flies 10 yds further with some of these hot faced irons.

I haven't encountered one single shot yet that had the "hot spot" feeling. I was actually thinking about that during testing and the couple of rounds I've played since because of the design. VERY consistent with the yardages so far. Another round planned for tomorrow.

Awesome...... that's good to hear. Very serious about pulling the trigger, but hung up on shaft selection right now.  Thanks

I'm currently playing Ctapers in Z545s. I played Modus 120x and love it but leaning towards the Project X LZ. I'm hearing good things on the LZ but haven't hit it.

I can't help you there, might need John or Dan to chime in on that. I don't remember if anybody tried the LZ.

I tried the LZ.  Actually really like the feel as I've hit them in Mizunos as well. Had better numbers with the Modus though.  Modus were more consistent for me as well.

If you like CTapers, I'd strongly consider those too. Those are a shaft that guys either love or hate. I'm not a fan but I know guys who swear by them and have the ball flight results to prove it.

That's the dilemma I'm in now, love the feel of the Modus but the C tapers perform very well.

I didn't try the LZ's at the Kingdom, but I had hit them in a Titleist T-MB and really liked them.  They really felt like they had some pop to them without being whippy.

I think you'd be fine with either. This is my second set with Modus and so far so good.  CTapers can get harsh to me if your swing is off.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone compared a 3iron 770 vs 3 iron from 790 with the same shaft for distance? I am looking to get either the 790 3 iron or wait for the 2/3 UDI to fit in the gap between 3 wood and 770 3 iron...

Thanks

Honestly I would go with the 3 iron M2 lift.  I know they are still a little bit out bringing the 790 UDI out, and the m2 lift is a great club

Posted this on the other thread about the lawsuit but this is how I see this.

This is great news for Taylormade, now they will get even more publicity for their 790 irons and make them more popular.  Sure there will be legal fees etc.  But the overall feel of this seems to me like, if you are Taylormade, you are grinning ear to ear right now.

On a better note, I rec'd my 790's today and cannot wait for tomorrow to give them a go.

Thanks again all of you that threw in your great insight from your trip, definitely made my decision easy. :good:

I'm not sure you can just call up the Kingdom like they are a Dick's Sporting Goods and go in for a fitting.

It's listed on TM website with a number to call since it is a performance lab.  The number says not in service.  At TPI 4 years ago I called and just set up a time.  Maybe they changed the policy and have stay at resort??

They may have thought about it lol.  The Kingdom is invite only for the most part.  I do remember something being said about a TaylorMade affiliated teaching pro may be able to get a person in, but I'm not 100% on that.  It was such a whirlwind day there.
