Still can't believe that we beat the US in 2011 Scott!

Nice home course by the way.

No knock on GB&I but SERIOUSLY how did this team lose?!?!

How did this team lose??

It was quite simple really~

The US got embarrassed, no strike that, they got pimp slapped all over the course in foursomes and of all the big guns on the US squad, only Jordan Spieth, ironically the youngest member on this Who's Who of Amateur golf team, held his own and contributed.

Those other lil stud muffins?

They choked their arses off and started playing at the end of their amateur careers as they would very shortly as Pros..

Like shat

They shoulda Played Nathan more-

He may not match up to you in talent but he'll give ya everything he's got, he has never choked and you will  Have to beat him as he very very very seldom beats himself, especially when the stakes are high.

This, as always is just my .03 worth

Big champ is launching missiles...... what a swing!!

Rob MacIntyre seemed to have some pretty solid missile defence.  Punched his ticket 6&4.*

*Nevertheless the USA team were unstoppable and thoroughly deserved the win.  GB&I were carding over par scores too often.

Definitely seemed that there were more holes won with par than birdie.

Royal Liverpool in 2019!

I'll probably make the trip up to Hoylake in 2019, one or two Welsh boys I know of looking to make that team.

This years team didn't really perform to put it mildly, the two that did, Gregory and Singh Brar, probably don't hit it long enough to make any kind of dent in professional golf. Hope I'm wrong on that.

As regards the membership of LACC and their policies, like somebody has already mentioned, sounds like the Muirfield of California.

Don't write the GB&I team off on this performance. Jordan Smith played in the last Walker cup on US soil and didnt win a point and he's turned out to be one of the brightest young talents.

Gregory could be the next Fitzpatrick - not the longest but gutsy and with a deadly short game.

The other big success for GB&I was Robert MacIntyre. From what i saw he played well in all three matches. His only defeat was mainly down to Matt Jordan's poor putting (on greens that were faster than most had ever experienced).

I'd never write anybody off after what is essentially a two day exhibition event, much like I'd never say somebody was a world beater. However, on a major championship level track set up by the USGA the majority of GB & I looked both starstruck and awful in equal measure.

Don't write them off yet.  Doug Ghim isn't a long hitter and he went 4 - 0.  And we all know about Spieth.

OK you nine non MidAms, let me tell you what happens in the next six years.

Seven of you are on the PGA Tour, one of you will join the rest and make it eight for 2018.

The other one has only made it to the Mackenzie Tour in Canada, sorry.

All of you put together have won 3 majors, 16 times on the PGA Tour, 1 other European Tour event, 2 Australian Opens and 9 Nationwide Tour (Web.com) events. Not surprising since two of you won on that tour already this summer. One of you has already won the Fed Ex Cup and you've all combined for about $70,000,000 in prize money.

Good job "team."

NOTE:
Jordan and Chris Williams (the one on the Mackenzie Tour) are the only two not to win a Web.com event.
swing is irrelevant, score is everything

They can't even match Jordan's best friend, much less Jordan.

5 wins and $22,000,000 are by just English and Henley.

Cantlay has a doctor's excuse, the rest need to step it up a little.

The best US Walker Cup team this century was the 2007 one. They've won over $158m between them in 10 years, several majors and tournaments. Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Billy Horschel, Webb Simpson, Chris Kirk, Jamie Lovemark, Colt Knost, Kyle Stanley. Only career amateur Trip Kuehne and Jonathan Moore haven't done anything on Tour, Knost + Lovemark haven't won but have still earnt over $4m on Tour and kept their cards for a number of seasons.

That would certainly be an interesting study.  "Which WC team had the most successful pro careers"?

Tiger and Begay in 1995 were the only ones who made it on tour. So not 1995.

Phil and Gamez in 1989, so not that year.

Phil, Duval and Bob May in 1991 was a pretty good team.

Kite and Wadkins in 1971....

Speaking of WC, why did Ben Crenshaw never play?

This was the first year I watched the Walker Cup and I have to say it was pretty good, especially the venue. Man those bunkers looked difficult... don't think I saw a tour quality bunker shot the whole two days, and I know it wasn't for lack of talent! The commentators were noting something about the type of sand that made it play more difficult. Honestly, it was refreshing to see bunkers actually stand up as true hazards. Anyway, that course was a great set up for match play. The short par 3 15th is brilliant!

The only thing that bothers me about the WC is why not follow suit with the Ryder Cup and let mainland Europe in on the action? Seems it would only help elevate the competition...

Seems it would only help elevate the competition...

has to happen

lots of good European Ams

make it much more interesting

I disagree the lack of competitiveness is recent times is due to a significant home advantage, the results clearly indicate this. How is changing it from GB&I to Europe going to rectify that?

In what way would it make it much more interesting?

Should this be moved to an amateur golf subforum?
